Riding down the santa ana bike trail today, exiting on garfeild and i slowed down to exit, and the bike got loose and i slid and hit the guard rail, bike only received minor damage, intake and mag cover, banks my leg up, but im lucky considering i hit it at 20mph

I ate some pavement recently when,...

After the bike didn't start on the first try I was still rolling with clutch lever out I took my left hand off the handle bars to reach down and push the "purge" button on the carburator,.. right when I did this and lost a little concentration the bike started, I must've had the gas on a bit and it lurched forward and to the right and I was down faster than a cow turd hits the pasture,....
scraped up a bit, left hand, left leg, left elbow,... scraped and bloody,... no bike damage,...

now, I pretend as if that is going to happen everytime I start the bike,...
very carefully, I make I'm looking forward, both hands on bars, and if I do need to choke it or push the button I make sure I secure the "clutch in Button"

it's called "complacency,...."

I was thinking about a million things other than what was going on right in front of me,....

this week i got t-boned by a car while leaving the garage of my apartment, the woman had no insurance and hit me doing 30 mph. i was thrown 12 feet and landed on the hood of a parked van. I got a bruised right kidney, swelling behind me kneecap, and the edge around the tank took a big chunk out of my thigh. thankfully my ammocan saddle bags kept my leg from getting crushed. the real kicker is my daughter told me to wear my helmet that day, i cringe every time i see the dent my helmet left in my neighbors hood. my bikes totaled except for the motor, but you can buy a new bike, you cant buy a new head.

That is some good luck wrapped up in a lot of bad luck. Hope you heal up quickly and well and the good news is you can go back and look at the dent.

hey ,,there are fun ,,but , you can get really hurt ,,mine does 30 mph flat out running hard ,,hit a bump with no suspension ,,you had better be hanging on to the bars ,,i'm putting suspension on mine

Helmets can be a lifesaver. I hope that you get well soon, and have medical ins. too.

I've had my bike for 6 months and haven't crashed yet *knocks on wood*

EDIT: In fact, I haven't even been pulled over.

I know how you feel. I have steel in my left leg. But I still have my head.
I saved the engine and now, well,...check out my album. the new(ish) Higgins build is prettier, lighter, faster, and has BRIGHTER LIGHTS. And a new, larger, slab-sided fuel tank that I have to take pictures of.
You'll be okay soon, and when you're ready to move on and rebuild the bike, you will. But you might get butterflies the first time you get back in the saddle. I know I did. But I fired her up anyway. And I've learned to be even more alert.

Moonerdizzle: What type of helmet were you wearing? I've got a German style "half helmet" and wonder if that would have done the trick in your situation..

ihave a skid lid i wear in summer, this winter im upgrading to a full face, previous winters i wore my skid lid with a baklava or bandanna on my face and a pair of goggles. As long as your german half helmet is DOT certified or SNELL cert you will be fine, but if its a novelty helmet from fleabay or a swap meet, throw it out, i seen them break in half from falling off of a table.

Wrecked mine twice in as many weeks. Both low speed, but dumping my 58 year old butt on the asphault at ANY speed ain't good, Heck, I could break a hip and croak in 6 months.
Anyway, first one, turning into my friends driveway, going too fast. Hit the old coaster brakes in the middle of the turn, of course they LOCKED, and I went slip sliding away. Sunglasses went one way, a shoe the other way, and my helmet, which came off before I even hit, went another way entirely. I have since learned to tighten my strap. Bumped the old noggin, elbow swelled up pretty good, and some scrapes and bruises.
I'm a little traumatized right now reliving it.(sob, sniff,) I'll get to the other wreck later.

i had a good one in july i was riding along a slightly busy road as a short cut to my friends (bad choice) was 3/4 of the way to my turn when i had a jerk swerve at me instead of me getting run over by them i ended up eating curb i got 16 stitches in my chin and road rash up my right leg to my a$$ to make it worse the person who almost hit me didnt even stop one of the guys from the shop near the crash came running and helped me get a ambulance and store my bike till it could be picked up i got lucky and the only real damage was i ended up with a fold in the top on my tank and some scrapes and it probibly is when i cracked the frame i was down for a week and took the whole bike apart and went through everything to make it 100% again i improved alot of things on it while i was down my leg was all screwed up and with the stitches i needed to keep everything clean so i couldnt work in the shop with all the oil grease and metal so i fixed up my bike painting the engine and moding things to make it better

I guess, if you could call any part of wiping out a "good thing" is the down time to go through yer bike. I only took a couple days, but went through my baby from stem to stern.

I was pedaling very slow with the motor off. I was looking down trying to figure out the problem with chain alignment and ran over a squeeky dog toy which startled me. That alone did not injur me.

But then something pretty awful happened which was all witnessed by my neighbor, and she was laughing!! After driving over the dog toy I hit my mailbox which caused me to veer into a stump. When I biffed, a twig snapped up and hit me square in my acorns. (that was the worst part).

But I got the last laugh because right before all that happened I figured out the rear sprocket needed adjusting.

We got a good laugh out it later when my voice went back to normal pitch. The whole sequence was so clumbsy, like in slow motion. Capped off by the painful and embarassing grand finale.

Exhaust burn on my calf...If you have a modded mini bike exhaust going toward the rear of the bike, be sure to make a heat shield before you do what i did.

BRO. I've done worse. Workin on my bike, ran it around the block a couple times, pulled it in the driveway and started wrenching on it. It started tipping so I grabbed it,(without thinking, of course,) AT THE PIPE. Peeled the skin right off. Never did THAT again.
