Dan,

It sounds like this one.

Steve.

The fog was very thick, and the Chief Officer of the tramp steamer was peering over the side of the bridge. Suddenly, to his intense surprise, he saw a man leaning over a rail, only a few yards away.

"You confounded fool!" he roared. "Where the devil do you think your ship's going? Don't you know I've got the right of way?"

Out of the gloom came a sardonic voice:

"This ain't no blinkin' ship, guv'nor. This 'ere's a light'ouse!"

My sister's mom inlaw died a few days ago, and it got me to think'n.......

Decided when it's my time, I'm gonna be cremated. Then someone is going to drive my ashes to the mountains and dump them in a campground port-o-potty. The 'stuff' has been raining on me a good part of my life, so I thought, why should it be different in death?

(She was really a nice lady and will be missed.)

What might have come out of my mouth if I had been the Southwest pilot who landed at the wrong airport on accident, and somebody asked me why:
"Well, tower, it's like this: we flew over the Bermuda Triangle on the way here, and encountered some electrical anomalies and formidable wind shear. Next thing we knew, we were thrown into the path of this gigantic UFO. We were saved when the ghost of Amelia Earhart took the controls and flew us past it. We had to navigate past a cyclone that was in the process of dropping a house onto a tiny village that had a wide yellow road right down the middle of it. The GPS still didn't work but I saw this airport up ahead, so here we are."

I did the same thing. I must have blown at least three hours watching the strandbeest things and other videos about the inventor. Truely amazing man and engineering talent.

Be a good name for a punk rock band;

Today's Tech Term;

Pod Slurping

Pod Slurping (a.k.a. Slurping) refers to the unauthorized download of data and files from a computer using an iPod, other brand of mp3 player, flash drives, etc. The small size of these devices and ease of connection makes this method of data theft a quick and stealthy endeavor."

Tom, that guy is amazing. I can't find it but "Modern Marvels" did a thing on Mr. Theo Jansen. One of his creations (shown in your vid as well) caught wind and compressed air in plastic bottles to make it walk! Talk about functional art.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theo_Jansen

"The creations are also able to store air pressure and use it to drive them in the absence of wind: "Self-propelling beach animals like Animaris Percipiere have a stomach. This consists of recycled plastic bottles containing air, that can be pumped up to a high pressure by the wind." Theo's more sophisticated creations are able to detect once they have entered water and walk away from it, and one model will even anchor itself to the earth if it senses a storm approaching"

I gotta find a link to it. Amazing guy.

I saw the ones you're talking about. In one vid he is on stage at the U of M and goes into detail showing how the plastic bottle thing works and demonstrates the 'muscle action using stored air, plastic tubing and 'O' rings to make pistons. Fascinating stuff. He also shows how the pneumatic controls worked that reversed the action so the beast would move away from the water.
The man is undoubtedly a mechanical genius. There was an old video (film) of him and some friends who built a flying saucer and launched it from a hill near the city. It was actually a helium ballon but saucer shaped. Afterwards they went around and interviewed people to see how they reported what they'd seen. Funny stuff.
I'll look for it and post the link.

I heard on the radio this morning on my way to work describing the rush hour traffic, we still have the " carbecue" going on on the downtown connecter! Made me laugh, I bet it wouldn't be funny to the car owner though.

Must have been a Pinto. If so; No great loss.

Hey! A very good friend of mine in High School drove a Pinto.
It was badass! A real sleeper...
Full roll cage tucked in nice and tight, couldn't really notice it from the outside, painted to match the interior.
Mustang 5.0 V8, cammed, dual carb, shorty headers, Tubbed wheel wells, very wide rear tires, 9" rear end with an air locker.
It was painted fire engine red with a white landau roof, factory stock appearing rims and hub caps.

It made many a Mustang, Corvette, Porsche and 'tuner weep in shame, even a few motorcycles too.

Ahhhh the memories. I wish I had that car now....
After graduation we parted ways and I never saw him or that Pinto again. I bet he still has it though!
