I installed a set of upgraded cylinder/head studs and nuts on my 66cc. Cleaned the threads on the studs, nuts, and engine cases followed by torquing the studs to the cases @ 9 ft-lbs. Man, what a diff these studs are over the bent and soft factory studs. The increased basic and/or "over-all" major diameter of the threads on these upgraded studs does a much better job of indexing both cylinder and head during installation (the threads on both the upgraded and the factory studs are rolled btw).

Most, if not all, of the other cheap factory fasteners will get the same treatment...i.e. tossed into the garbage.

Cadaceus: What about threading a small steel pipe and putting a cap on it? I have one on hand (it use to be a cable guide or something), but it's hardened so I;ll have to aneal it before I can thread the non-threaded end. It's curved so it will be nice. Once threaded I can put an extension on it with a coupler if I need to and then cap the extension. The possibilities are endless!!!!!!

Snapped my chain the other day replaced it with a Tsubaki 41 Industrial chain, so far so good!

After fixing an air leak my bike was running rich, like dripping oil on the spark plug rich. Took 60 seconds and swapped out the jet now Im to lean so I guess its fill and drill time again!

Oh! And passed the 100 mile mark on my first motorized build :)

That's a great chain to use, same brand I use on all my bikes.

I wanted to see how quiet I could make my bike. I had the old muff and added it. Not really a fair test as I had already semi gutted it. This mount is only temporary as I will look at other options as well.

Somewhat quieter.

That's why sick bike parts has the sets already bagged. Stud set for the head and a set for the rest of the bolts. I don't know what the Chinee make the bolts from but Grade 0 is being generous. I had all kinds of problems with the stock motor mount bolts. Replaced them with Grade 5 bolts from ACE. No more problems. .trlrl.

Made the header for my race bike, changed the jets and adjusted the float.
Nice looking set up there ccc, I plan a build with my older 196cc clone, will need a billet flywheel and a few other mods to get it safe on a bike but, I plan a solid build with it when I have the time in the future, it already has the arc billet rod, ported 14cc head with flat top piston and 18# springs and 1.2 ratio rockers, I'd like to go roller rocker and. Mild cam grind as well when I get to the project.

You do great work .

Went to Harbor Freight today. They are having their huge tent sale tomorrow, as a member of some HF deal they let me have tent prices today. Picked up their 90 flux wire welder. Never welded before and I gotta tell you it is some fun.

When I got home momma said walk the dogs and in an alley I just happen to find a bunch of perfectly good conduit just laying there. Imagine that. So I stated playing and this is my first fab project. bent the pipe and welded two pieces together for the straight piece. Don't know when I will use it but fun to know how.

I love this hobby...

Oh, the 212 motor is 99.00 bux might as well go get one tomorrow. Maybe I could use the pipe on that. LOL...

in the process of changing out all the bolts with metric hardend alen bolts and any threads or bolts exposed over to stainless steel ones. so if it goes in the motor and no threads exposed its now a black alen bolt and if threads are exposed and a nut is presant its now stainless steel.

Know what you mean Pluto.

Hey, the bend and weld look great.

Got a welder and was teaching my self with the help of folks here. Was too funny. The phrases "You welded what to what!?" "You hit it with a sledge?" and "POOR bikes..." were used, lol.

One thing I was warned about and am glad, conduit can put off some nasty fumes. Just be sure to be in a well ventilated area.

Listen to what Dan said about fumes, conduit and any other galvanized pipe or tubing puts off lethel fumes if you breathe enough of it, I know people personally who have been in the hospital from zinc poisoning because of welding galvanized pipe and breathing to mush fumes..... its nasty stuff so be very careful.

Did'ja ever have one o' those times when you start tinkering with one thing, then another thing presents itself, then four hours just flew by. Sure you have.
I was originally going to just put fresh batteries in ol' Tempus for her brake light. Then I got to thinking that the switch could trip it sooner if the clutch cable were a bit tighter (my brake light is tripped by my clutch lever). So I worked on that at both ends. Then I decided that I had definitely tightened the drive chain too much. And thus began a holistic approach to bike maintenance. Checked fuel line, spark plug, tightness of nuts & bolts, a couple of test rides, futzing with the idle, looking into the float bowl, contemplating the implications of changing the jetting, another test ride. Then my wife comes out and asks if I still wanted to be the one to cook supper. Supper!?!?! Crap on a cracker! It's nearly five!!! Why couldn't I have started on this in the morning?

Spent 12 hours today trying to piece together a 66cc skyhawk motor and kit parts for my bike. I have a lot of parts from various builds and think I found enough stuff to make it run tomorrow. It seems everytime I build a nice bike I end up selling it. I then miss not having one. I build another then sell it. NOT this time I am keeping this one. I had to make several gaskets from scratch. I used an aluminum pie pan from the dollar store to make some head gaskets. I had an old muffler that was in sad shape. I had to cut, grind, weld and bend it to fit on my bike. Since getting layed off after 22years on the job I have to watch every penny we spend lately, so this is definately a scraped together/ use what you can find project.

Tore the carb apart for a clean and to see what jet was in it. Of course it wasn't marked but I had some numbered bits and figured out it's a #70. Then, putting the bit back in the case, it came apart and mixed the bits all up. Then, according to my digital caliper, 4 of them are the same damn size. Grrr. Ordered a couple (smaller) jets from SBP and will go from there. :)

Glad to hear you're getting something together, really sorry to hear about the lay-off man, I worry about that myself with all the idiots we have in Washington doing all the stupid junk they been doing, with making socialist laws that will likely put a bunch of us out of worjk time its all said and done, I could really get on my soap box here on this one but I will refrain so I don't get in trouble here.

really sorry for the hard time buddy.... I know it stinks, just hope this nation wakes up and throws the bums out before its to late.

I pedaled mine home. ugh. The clutch blew up somehow. I was riding at 25mph and it started making a metallic racket. I thought it was a bearing or con rod, but the clutch was locked up. I'll have to pull the motor and figure out what happened. I hope the engine is ok!
