Sportsman 200 on Steroids

So when is there going to be a Bonniville Flyer backpack parachute system made available for purchase? :)

How did you know about the backpack mounted parachute system? It actually stopped the rider just fine. Were still looking for the bike!

Pat,
Are you going to the Motorbicycle race at the Adams Go-Kart track in Riverside? I'd love to see that thing in person.

Is that Bairdco's race? Would like to go but really don't think it will happen. I just have too much on my plate right now.

Here is a quick update on the Bonneville Flyer. We are now the current land speed record holders in the 175cc class at the Bonneville Salt Flats! Here is a quick picture of Myself and Shane from AGK sitting with our new record holder. Shane did an outstanding job of preparing and maintaining our engine and the Bonneville Flyer chassis took the punishment of the salt, and let me tell you it is a very difficult enviroment to work in.

This bike now has a genuine race history on the world famous Bonneville Salt Flats complete with an actual racing log book, racing serial number, and proper tech inspection documentation. Let's just say we absolutely hammered the previous record and the 175cc class still doesn't know what hit them. I will post all the details soon........

So should we start calling you Burt now? Lol I knew you could do it because of the speeds you got in testing. I know a world record holder now! Congratulations and very much deserved!

Pat,
Congratulations! You have contributed so much to motor bicycling and have become something of a legend already as an innovator and builder of fine machines. That bike is now famous, too. A world record no less.
Kudos to Shane and AGK, as well. More good things to come, no doubt...

looks like fenders are a good idea... :)

any problems with salt spraying in your face from the front wheel?

how was it at speed? was the steering stabilizer necessary, or more of a cosmetic touch (a cool one at that, but was it functional?)

i've got a million more questions, but i'll wait...:)

I believe everything about the Bonnieville Flyer, wheels, speedo, steering dampner, etc. was specifically done to meet tech inspection requirements. Its sole purpose in life (other than looking bad a$$) was to nail the 175cc world record. And beat it by a very large margin.

This is awesome and a life long dream for some of us on this forum. But I think there is one burning question all of us have..... is there be a video of this? I'm dying to see this baby screaming across the salt.

I want to thank Pat and his brother Rich for the opportunity to put my engine in their Bonneville Flyer. The bike is absolutely magnificent! Pictures do not even begin to tell how much work went into this bike to make it legal for Bonneville. I can go on and on listing the extra details that went into building this bike. Pat is a fantastic fabricator and I am honored to have one of my engines in his bike.

We are so fortunate to be the new record holders in our class. It was great working with Pat, Rich, Skip, Dave and Gunther (and Dorthie). We made a solid team and the Bonneville Flyer had several successful runs down the salt as a result.

I'm sure Pat will be posting some great pictures and maybe some video too. The Bonneville Flyer had the attention of several photographers throughout the event.

So please, what was the old record in your class, and what is the new record that you set?
I'm curious as to whether vehicles go faster or slower on the salt flats due to altitude/wind/surface conditions.

The previous record in our class was 64mph. I'll let Pat say what our record speed was. We finished running on Wednesday and the event went through Friday. So we need to be sure our record still stands before we start bragging.

The altitude and the heat certainly plays a role in engine performance. Fortunately the Bonneville Flyer responded well to the tuning and changes we made to tire pressure etc. I do believe the Flyer ran a speed that was higher than the current record in the 175cc turbo class. The Bonneville Flyer received a lot of positive attention from spectators and racers and even some negative attention from past record holders.

Again Guys - Great Job!!! World Record Holders...AWESOME!!

I think you both will be rewarded with some business influx with this record.

Talking about the work needed to make it legal for Bonneville, i was wondering if the primary and secondary guards as well as the flywheel cover were required to ride? Did you have to safety wire all the nuts on the bike?

Once again great work guys, like someone else said you guys will get a lot of work from this, Pat with your beautiful bikes and AGK with motor upgrades.... I have a Honda GX160 that i now want to use so i will be buying goodies from AGK hopefully soon..... Truly inspirational work guys!!!!!
