Ive been trying to get a new plug for my Villiers engine... ive tried a local mower shop, boat place and a couple of other places but they dont have the same plug and they didnt seem knowledgable enough to recommend another brands plug.

And i dont know that much about plugs..... the plug in the Villiers is either a Bosch M575 or a Bosch M515 (hard to read).... are there other plugs i can run? Or should i try and find this particular plug?

I bought a plug today, i went with the Champion D16 as that is all my mower shop had. The bike seems to be running a little better, definitely an improvement.

I still have one issue with my bike, and the new sparkplug doesnt seem to have remedied it...... when my bike is at full throttle at top speed my engine seems to miss, or at least not have full power, but runs very well up to that point.

Is it my jetting? something else? Or is my suspicion right that the engine isnt getting enough fuel? Fuel line not big enough????? (i think i used 1/8)

1/8 line should be a great plenty. Sounds like you are getting to much fuel or you are not getting enough. Can you change jets? Some guys have sholderd them shut and redrill them to differant size........Curt

Hi harry, before you mess with the jets, put the old plug back in and get a reading. New plugs don't show rich or lean conditions as well as old carboned up plugs. I used 1/8'' copper line on a Briggs model ''Y'' engine years ago and I neglected to deburr the ends of the tubing. I discovered my mistake when the engine rpms would increase when I raised the fuel tank and decrease when I lowered it. After clearing the burr from the ends, it ran great.

Not sure i can change the jets.... i will need to investigate further

Why did the engine revs change when you moved the tank????

I have noticed that when my bike is missing (im not sure if MISSING is the correct term, i just dont have a more descriptive word) and i hit a bump sometimes it appears to cause it to rev properly for a minute.... because of this i was also wondering if i could be getting a vapour lock in the fuel line..... Cobrafreak told me he had vapourlock problems when he ran his copper fuel line close to the engine..... could this be happening to me?

You can check for vapor lock. The fuel line should ALWAYS be cool to the touch. If it gets hot the petrol makes air pockets that gravity cannot clear. If the line is hot turn off engine and open the fuel line at the carb until petrol leaks out then close off. If the bike runs good now you have vapor lock. You can fix by getting modern fuel line that insulates a lot better than copper or you can thermal wrap the copper line completely so it stays cool. I tried thermal wrap and it did help but it just took longer to vapor lock. Copper looks great but unless you are running a fuel pump it sucks for motorbikes.

I came across a thread about "four stroking" and the OP referred me to this video to explain... i watched the video and this sounds EXACTLY like what mine is doing

What is "four stroking" ? - YouTube

Does a vapour lock engine sound similar to this "fourstroking"? .... if not im guessing my engine must be "fourstroking".

If it's four stroking the mixture is too rich. You can either lean the mixture out, let the engine get more air into the engine, or maybe a hotter plug.

I cleaned my airfilter to see if that made a difference and the bike is now running awesome, it did the same thing (im guessing 4 stroking) a little when i went downhills but the rest of the time it felt great.

I cleaned the air filter when i first got the bike going but obviously it needs to be done quite reguarly, and i guess i have done a lot of riding so i probably should have thought of that, so with the new plug and clean air filter im very happy with the performance again.

Well as usual i was out riding my bike (really must finish other bikes) and its starting to look a little ratty which i like, its good not worrting about scratching the paint or overfilling the tank..... none of those things worry me LOL

I took some pics and i like em so i thought id post em.

I did a spring clean of my work area so i wheeled SOME of my bikes out for a picture.... this is only about half of my vintage bikes plus i have all my mountain bikes also.....plus bikes in the shed out the back..... which you can imagine my girlfriend just loves HAHAHAHA

Looks good Harry. I like the old used look, which is why I am a William Shatner fan too, Lol.

Thanks guys, im pretty happy with those new pics considering it was on an iphone which arent the best.

Im fairly happy with my ride, theres a couple small things id still like to do to it, but im sure thats the case with any bike.

I cant decide whether to leave the bike as is.... or paint some faded tank graphics on the tank ... what do you guys think?
