Maytag Flyer

Lookingh real good sar far. Iam watching this build close . i have 2 of the engines but thought them too small in the power range 5/8 to 3/4 hp, so im curious how it will move.

Just in case you didn't realize Buddfab has done a beautiful build with a Maytag twin, go to YouTube and look up Maytag bicycle and you should see an extremely cool video, I'd give you the link but I'm at work on my phone ATM, or I think the link may already be on this thread.
 
As you know it takes a $$$ to build and this bike is going to get top notch stuff so I'm gonna take my time with it, the tank and oil box has a machined turned pattern on the sides and I accumulating parts for it, it is the Co. car so to speak and it has to the best of all, will paint it a base of Chrysler Toxic Copper with cream colored spears, it is a slow work in progress.

I can tell you that I have made some more progress on the frame and front end for the Maytag Flyer.

I cut a rear frame member and fit up a clamp system to re attach the two pieces. This will let me install an endless belt like a serpentine belt to use if the leather one stretches out too much.

I finished the main truss of the front end by adding some 1/2 dia. rod.
Then made a set of bottom rockers, this is a trailing link design, installed some pivot bushings.

The "L" shaped rocker allows for a brake drum anchor.

Modified and fit the leaf spring pack. Also fit in some fork stops so the front end won't hit the gas tank when it is built.

Made up some adjustable link rods to tie the rockers to the leaf spring.
Snugged and aligned everything and gave it a test. I am quite pleased with the operation, just the right amount of spring tension and rocker travel.

Summer has been good which means I have been out riding or driving my already completed vehicles and have not been in the shop very much.

I have managed to get a little done just recently as I start to get back to work on the Flyer.

I took two handle bars and cut them and rearranged the pieces to make the shape I wanted.

Then made a mount tab for the headlight and welded it on.

Fit the tabs to hold the front fender, and yes it clears the tire and the leaf spring when at full travel.

Modified the rear fender stay to clear the belt drive pulley, and fit the rear fender in place.

also installed a wide crank kit from Sportsman Cycles, much nicer than the three piece China unit, and installed my original Worksman sprocket slightly modified to fit the new sprocket adapter, I won't have to pedal as hard now. LOL.

OMFG! Whozawhat, that bike is already the BOMB! And it's not even done yet! I hadn't been following this thread in a while, but I'll be watching more closely now. It's a thing o' beauty, my friend, - a thing of pure beauty. Keep up the good work.

How did you bend the torsion leaf as I remember them not liking side ways pressure being put on them. If I recall right I had one of those snap in half when it fell over and hit the ground. Maybe that one was bad to begin with, don't really know as it happen over 20 years ago.

By the way you are doing a real sweet job on that bike of yours.
