The plumbing comments got me... jeez, what misery it is under a kitchen sink... the cabinetry hitting the back all wrong, contorting to see what the heck you're doing, making hands and arms bend in ways they were not meant to, raising the upper back and neck by muscle power alone with no support and then getting crap loose that needed to be tight a long time ago and now is really tight... all to discover the many incompatibilities of new replacement plumbing bits and pieces with antiquated stuff in the old house you're living in. Back and forth to the hardware.

I rank the experience right up there with lying under a truck in sub zero temps, with rust and grease falling into your eyes, hair and mouth fighting rusted nuts and bolts which are as likely to break as to come loose. How do you spell "fun"?

There is a certain pleasure in watching someone else struggle with the problem as you wait with coffee cup in one hand and checkbook in the other. "Done yet?"

Gregg,
Garth Brooks also had a line, "I'm much too young to feel this damned old". Or, as my Dad used to say, "If I'd known I was going to live this long, I'd have taken better care of myself."

Plumbing: Rats, I gotta do it again today. Something's dripping, and it's all new stuff.

I can't complain considering; at 66 I'm still pretty mobile. I pedal far more than
I motor & hike 2 or 3 times a week. That said, woe to them what disturbs my
2:30 siesta.

Well, if you have to do plumbing you own a house.
I am just leasing and when something goes wrong I just e-mail my landlord and he takes care of it.

Like our kids now, we were stupid kids that hurt ourselves and thought once we healed that the was the end of it.

My 25 year old son can't seem to understand that and the cycle of pain will continue just like it did with us.

Well, as my Mom says to me these days when I complain, 'told ya so honey' hehe ;-}

But would I change anything?

Yes, there's jobs I'd have avoided, people too, but the fun stuff, I'd have either done it or done more of it.

I've just sat down at 00:25, been out playing loud music and having fun. I'll spend some time online until the buzz dies off enough to be able to sleep. One phrase that specialists in the care of the old, aged, fossilised, say here is , "Don't let the old in."

I still keep looking at women and wondering if I can remember what to do with them, I play guitar, and when time, bad back and She Who Wishes To Be Obeyed permit, I'll be back building little engined fun bikes this summer.

I'll be old when I, Ludwig, decide.

I'm 60 and having fun! Yeah homeowner projects make me ache more than they used to. But one of the advantages of getting old and having grey hair is your doctor (who looks like you do) will give you narcotics if you ask. He knows, he's old too.

Lucy has been good for my health. She is an 18 month old, 50 lb. "American Stafford Grey Weiler"

Yup, Am Staff, Greyhound and Rottweiler mix according to Wisdom Panel 2.0. She requires her mile stroll every morning and and an hour fetching tennis balls at the dog park every afternoon. Plus a vigorous session of tug twice a day. My arms and legs have been getting a good workout. Plus I have an excellent tan.

Today she got me a date. A lovely woman I met at the dog park. We are having lunch tomorrow. How do I know she is lovely? She adopted a shelter dog like me - :)

It's good to live with dogs, good for the people and good for the dogs.

Im reading a title of a song here" I AIN'T AS GOOD AS I ONCE WAS" ! The older I get the more times I get to use that saying. Our son is 29 and doesn't understand why I get tired when he and I are working, thats when I quote Toby's song, he just laughs. Then I tell him to wait 30 years and see how funny it is.
I tell my boys and some of the younger fellas I work with the very same thing...LOL

I'm not in real bad shape, but I cant run a marathon either, I've lost down to just over 200lbs and would love to get down to about 185# then I would have even more of my get up and go back.

My dad used to tell me all those crazy things I done when I was young would catch up to me some day, I just laughed and thought nah... I'll be just fine, well as always Dad was right and my ankles, knees and shoulders beg for mercy almost everyday now.

I feel very blessed and thankfull that I can do what i do and enjoy most of the things I have done since I was young, but this old gray mule aint what it used to be for sure...LOL!

I have sure learned a bunch here over the years.
There is nothing quite like a well run forum to share hard specific information, especially for something as varied as a bicycle with power.

I joined the forum back in 08. Learned a lot and have been able to share some of that knowledge too. I gave up R/C planes because of my eyes and had to find a hobby. This has been a fun one; rewarding and satisfying.

However, judging from my post count, I need to get a life.

LOL.... seems to me you have a very full and entertained life Sir.

I do feel the same way sometimes though, I think, what am I doing on this smart phone or my PC reading through the forum when I need to be working on a bike or tinkering with one of my other hobbies or even a honey do....?

But, honestly I just do the best I can with what I have to work with and with what little time I have to do it.

I dont try to compete with others, I just make things the way I want it or need it to be and then enjoy it best I can, I do tend to keep things simple because of limited time and if I spend to much time on a project I tend to get burned out and may end up starting another that I can't seem to get finished either.....lol!

But thats life for a regular working fella and I accept it and make the best of it.

Life is good and I feel very blessed and thankful for what I have and am able to do.

Actually, I'm not complaining. Not in the least. I'm retired, don't need to work and have time to take care of the 'honey do" list, yard work, house work and whatever needs to be done. The house is paid off and we have ample savings to carry us through.

Reaching this level of contentment in my life is a blessing that some will never know. Getting older has its disadvantages, but also its perks. I don't care what people think of me, how I dress, or how I smell.

Elton John said it best: "I dress in rags, smell a lot and have a real good time. I'm a genuine example of a 'social disease' :)
