Wired the headlight to the break lights battery source as well as put it on the switch that mounts on the handlebars. still just something to get me by till I can make it better.
Also managed to install the front wheel on my bicycle , Unfortunately Sans the Disk breaks I have attempted to mount several times. it would seem that even with washers in place the disk rubs the fork arms :s mayhaps I will just have to take it to a bike shop so they can tell me my parts don't work together.

have you seen this? I've used this type a couple times. it gets your switches in a convenient placement on the bars. and it's cheap enough. It'll run yer headlight tailight turn signals and horn. I'm using one like this on my bike.

did the electrical tape and started loctite today.
wanted to use heat-shrink tubing but lowes wanted too much money for it, wanted to do some liquid gasket but lowes didn't have any.
got a big-ol tube-a-grease though.

I'm doing this for My Pig:

Building a wheel with these super heavy gauge spokes and nipples scrounged from a wasted Mohawk industrial trike.

Lowe's is a complete ripoff. I broke a back motor mount bolt right in front of a Lowe's. After getting "screwed" I've never been back and travel the extra 3 miles to Home Depot or even further to an ACE. I used to have an ACE a mile away, bought nuts and bolts from there for years. The opening of the Lowe's so close to them forced them to close. At least they haven't totally gone.

I got my horn today and I'm playing around with where I'm going to mount it. With the bracket that came with the horn it mounts nicely on one threaded stud on the front of the HS 49 cc engine.

There are two threaded studs that are on the same plain on the front of the engine. I could make up a new bracket that will catch both threaded studs and bring the horn in closer to the engine though.

The way I have it mounted now I'm only using one of them but with the dog ear in the bracket the dog ear rests against another stud so the bracket can't move down and feels solid.

Guess the right thing to do is make up a bracket to have two mounting points....

Thanks mapbike, I have put 285 miles on it since it was completed last October. I wipe it down after each ride, I'm kinda obsessive about keeping it clean.

Love the color too. Been looking at military bikes for ideas for decals on the gas tank.

Manic, your like the Professor on Gilligan's island. To make a MB, ya just need an empty box of wheaties, a coconut and a 3 wheeled shopping cart.

Truly, the master of repurposing. Those (of us) about to ride, salute you. (sing to AC/DC song or gladiator reference? snork)

.flg.

Hehe, now that dumb song is stuck in my head; (I know I keep reposting this but always cracks me up)

"Bud Light presents, Real Men of genius. Motor-bike style. (Chorus;real men of genius)
Today we salute you, Mr. weed-whacker, motor-bike builder.
(Mr. weed-whacker, motor-bike builder)
Any one can buy a cheap imported scooter. But only you take a yard tool, a bicycle and a socket set to new heights.
(we owe China lots of money)
For the man who has every thing. Every thing except a passenger seat"
(his friends have cars)
All with out a helmet.
((Female chorus))Gonna scramble your eggs)
So crack open a Bud light Mr. Mystro of the weed-whacker powered motor-bike. We'd sing your praises. But you don't have a muffler and can't hear us.
(Mr Weed-Whacker, Motor-bike Builder)

i bought a fuel filter and some fuel line today (none of which fit on the bike, derp)
Also got some liquid gasket, waiting for it to cure now. never used the stuff before so I'm a little bit antsy about it. only put it on the crankcase cover and magneto cover so far, if that goes well I will be using it to waterproof the wiring outlet.

also one of my exhaust studs looks funny, might have to replace it, not sure yet.

so, I realized that I need to get inside the magneto cover to waterproof the wires, oops.
Took apart a beautifully formed in place gasket and started thinking about what to do next when I noticed that my exhaust pipe touched my pedals now (didn't yesterday) so I fully dissembled my exhaust system (doing this requires de-tensioning the rear wheel) that's how I learned that one of my exhaust studs had stripped, so I pulled both and replaced them with a pair of bolts with the heads hacksawed off. so just finished rebuilding the exhaust system, didn't bother re-tensioning the rear wheel yet, and the magneto cover is still off.

all-in-all a good evening of work i'd say
XD

I've never noticed Lowe's being worse than other stores. When we go shopping in town, there's a Lowes, Menards, and Farm & Fleet within a mile of each other - Lowes and Menards on the same block. Menards is the cheapest, but the store's layout sucks, it is hard to find a sales assistant, and the quality of their products, especially lumber, is so bad I almost never go there.

You never know what you're getting when buying hardware nowdays. Thanks, China. When possible, I put out the extra money for Grade 8, although it often doesn't have a pretty finish on it.

GoreWound,
I like using shrink wrap on any wiring job, too. Harbor Freight has it cheap. But Plasti-Dip works great if you don't mind the trouble of brushing it on (or dipping) and waiting for it to dry. Dries fast- and is the best seal you can get on a wire job. Also, you have to have enough room (and remember!) to put the shrink wrap on the wire BEFORE soldering! Not a problem with plasti-dip.

I never thought of using plasti-dip, that might've been a better plan.
at least I can take it apart easily if I upgrade my CDI at any point.

the sad fact is that in southern ontario lowes is no worse than anyone else, but still a ripoff. Not sure why but hardware stores have a serious case of suck around here.
I spent three months trying to find a hardware store that sold 14g galvanize steel wire before I gave up and found it on amazon. the only place I could find that had any only had is in 50ft coils without a spool inside of them for like 4 or 5 dollars a foot. After I bought the two units they had they NEVER restocked them.
