BoXer Race Bicycle transformation!!!!!

The BMS had nothing to do with it. It regulates charge current and it's connected to the individual cells with hair gauge wire. The controller will shut down if the voltage goes too low. If this happens you can simply power off/on and you will go another 100 feet before it shuts down again.

The controller will also limit current to a preset after you have exceeded preset (accel or uphill) for too long. But the motor still works, just not as strong.

A shut down with no reset is a thermal protector me thinks. Especially since normal operation was resumed after a cool down.

Interesting stuff Mike. I passed by another speed sign and it said I was only hitting 25mph. Should I reprogram my hub?
 
You might want to lower the amp draw. Also LiFePO4 needs to cutoff at 45v not 42 like other LiPo's or SLA's because they run at a higher voltage (max 58v) That's why you throttle gauge does not work. Usually the bms will handle this for you but if all yours does is balance the cells, well, not good. Good luck I got to get to work.

I don't think it's the battery, I have a new lifepo4 20AH. I'm sure I found the issue. It's was a loose throttle connection.
 
Well, I've riding the bike for a couple of weeks now. I've only had one hick cup and that was my fault trying to climb up a steep road without really pedaling. The bike has been running fine since then. At first I thought the bike was running slower but it looks like I was getting use to the speed. I've got probably over 200+ miles on it now. I'm thinking about making side covers but it's been real easy removing the battery and charging so I'm going to take my time making it. It's been awesome not having to tighten bolts after every ride. It's so LOW Maintenance!!!!

My light set up.

I think having a good set of bright lights are a must especially riding at night. I set it up by either having one or both lights working. They are hooked up to my 48 volt lifepo4 battery. Even with both lights on, the bike easily gets 25 miles. I mounted the ballast under the tray.

Since I've been doing a lot of night riding. I thought it would be best to finally retire my old cracked helmet for a new one. It's a carbon fiber bicycle helmet that is the most comfortable helmet I've even worn. It's so comfortable that sometimes I forget to take it off. .girl.

very nice easy rider. i am with you i really like being able to jump on it and ride and not have to fix something every time i turn around. i am putting way more miles on the bike then the truck and car combined. not to knock the gas motors however each time i rode i always wondered what i would have to fix. broke a lot of chains. adjusted the chain stay often and of course tightening all the bolts and screws, you did a great job on the boxer. you will also be surprised how quick the miles rack up. i got a good bicycle helmet which is about 20 years old. maybe time for a new one

My old helmet is 17 years ago because it was a wedding present from the Mrs. Unfortunately every time I took it off, black foam particles from the worn padding got all over the floor.
I was looking at the Fox Flux, Bell Super or a POC but after I tried this helmet on, I knew this was it.
 
ya i need to wait till i go to states again so i can try a few on. hopefully i can find a comfortable one, back then i thought the dents and scratches were kinda cool from the crashes but a nice new one would be nice now that i am old lol.
 
That bike is awesome. I Wish I had some forks like that.
Thanks, the forks are getting old but they still work great. What I like about the forks are the travel and I have them set on soft. This prevents my hands from going numb on those long rides.
 
I knew it would be a matter of time before Dean would make one. If you know him like I do, you know it's going to be set up for the dirt because of all the trails near his home. He told me some of the details on the specs but I'll wait until I see a bunch of parts at the shop before I release some info. :)
All I can say is it's gonna be bad**$.
 
Tire change

Well I got a flat tire yesterday. While fixing the flat, I noticed that my tires had a bunch of thorns in it so instead of picking them out, I decided that it would be easier to replace the tires as well. I had a pair of new CTS 2.4" so on they went along with a new front rotor. I like the aggressive thread pattern and look like quality tires. Tonight will be the first test ride on them.

I like the tread on those, looks like they would do well on and off pavement?
 
scotto uses them on his race bikes, now that the 24'' hookworms are gone. glad your having fun with the e-bike ken. so kool of a bike. dennis
 
I knew you'd like those tires;) Eventually? I did like the HookWorms better, butt these slip on and off for service on our similar wide wheel sets with pretty good grace. Been a more pleasant experience in that aspect for me lol.laff
 
They actually feel like they grab the pavement better. GH, you are so right on taking the tire on and off, they are more forgiving then the Hook Worms. The new tires went on easier and the complete beam sat in the groove the first time I inflated them. I'm liking them better than the Hooks.
