I just won an EBay auction for a new 200 amp mig welder. 
Hopefully i can pick it up tommorrow (i start a 6 day break from work) and get welding. Then i can start on the numerous builds i have going on in my head, my engines are waiting impatiently: 2 x 98cc Villiers, 2 x 3hp Briggs, 160cc Victa, Honda GX160

Gosh Harry, I have no opinion of any weight... if my two cents here and there can lead you even closer to a good idea for your project, that might be a good thing.
I don't know anything about the marketplace down under, but I bought a 3 in 1 welder a few months back on the bay. About 1/4 the price of Blue or Red with the same functions I wanted to learn. It has arc, Tig, and plasma cut functions, with all the bells and whistles. It's what's known as a W-200P.
It had two problems on arrival. The vendor stood behind it, and I got them both resolved within 10 days.
I researched the oriental welding machines before buying... that is a difficult task considering the amount of cloning they participate in.
Riland is highly thought of. Origin of mine is questionable, but it's a clone of Riland, or badged... hard to tell.

Yours has tig and plasma? Hows that? A plasma cutter would be so handy. My old work used to have one and it would come in real handy doing these builds.
I went and picked up my Mig off EBay so i could have it for the weekend. Im very excited, i love things that come in plain boxes. Its like being a kid again unwrapping a present inside. Hopefully this welder is alright, didnt really do any research before buying. It was an impulse decision from being sick and tired of not having a welder and taking forever to do things.....

I got my jackshaft welded and mounted and also tacked a trial bracket to work out the kickstart. I will make a nicer looking bracket.
My welder doesnt work quite as well as my mates that i was using (his was twice the price of mine). My welds dont seem as neat, but it gets the job done. Its sooooo good having my own welder for the first time. Unfortunately ive overspent this pay so my belts will have to wait until wednesday, at least that gives me time to get everything right. Tommorrow i plan to fully weld my tank. Ill pick up my forks tommorrow (thread lengthened) and fit them. I can also do all the welding for my Indian and Whippet builds as well.

Explain the kick start, if you will. I had thought the kick start lever would need to fit up against the little toothed deal directly on the engine crankshaft. It appears to me that you have instead mounted that on the end of the jack shaft, which certainly gets it out of the way and in a convenient spot for starting the engine. So then you would sit the bike up on the rear drop stand or a center stand to get the rear wheel off the ground, engage the belt tension arm and give it a kick... the engine starts, you disengage the clutch arm, set the bike down, climb aboard and off you go smiling into the sunset... is that right? If I understand correctly then this kick start setup would not work with an automatic clutch... which makes a strong case for setting up the clutch as you have done. Or... I have this all wrong and you will explain it to me to set things right.
Now I've got to get a danged welder, too. Someday when I grow up I'm gonna have proper tools.

Mine is very similar to this machine... WeldAll 200PI | 200AMP AC/DC TIG/STICK ALUMINUM WELDER & 50AMP PLASMA CUTTER MULTIPROCESS WELDER WITH IGBT TECHNOLOGY
It came with a water trap/separator for an airline to hook up to the TIG solenoid and normal argon feed. I hooked it up direct for a test. Now I gotta make up a manifold for it to switch back and forth easily.
I bought mine with the intent of rehab, but now I'm having some probs with my COPD and using the welding hood... figgers! always something.
So now I'm thinkin how to mod the welding helmet to avoid the probs, Shouldn't be too difficult. Already got some of the parts n' pieces scavenged. Basically it will be similar to a constant pressure air delivery system for working in a hazardous environment, but at an affordable price!
...a CPU cooling fan hooked to a cordless drill battery, some shop-vac tube, and my O2 metered supply integrated in there.
Always need more projects!

SB you hit the nail on the head. Exactly right.The kickstart was in the way mounted to the flywheel, and stuck out further not to mention i want to expose as much of this pretty motor as possible.
SB i actually bought a max torque clutch for mine (hasnt turned up yet), but didnt use it because i would need to play around with it to get it working, because the clutches engage at say 2500rpm lets say (cant remember) and the motor only revs to 3000rpm. Im no expert but supposedly you would need to change the springs to get it to engage at the right rpm's. MSRFAN had an idea of using a different clutch like he uses that may work easier. I just wanted a bike i can ride hopefully soon and ill use my clutch and get it sortetd on a next build.
And yes get a welder if you can SB, you wont regret it, and im sure it would pay for itself in no time.

Id love a TIG welder Rustycase, youre so lucky..... not that i can tig weld but would love to learn.... one day. In the right hands a tig is just soooooo neat. No need to grind welds, in fact if you are a good welder its a crime to grind tig welds. They shoud be displayed with pride.

Thanks very much for the explanation and video link. I think that's the way I want to go, using an automatic clutch and setting up the kick start as you have on the end of the jack shaft. I think msrfan uses the comet clutch, so we'll have to get him to talk about it, engagement RPMs and such. I also like that guy in the video's gas tank a lot and think I will try to go for that tapered shape when I make mine on the Indian. He did a nice job, I think. You're getting pretty close to riding, aren't you! Can't wait to hear all about it. I'm making some progress on mine over on the Indian Tadpole thread.

If i didnt buy that welder i would have had the bike going this weekend. I have to buy the belts and a dye to lenghten the Monarks front spring bolts, but that will have to wait until wednesday payday as im pretty broke til then. But thats ok just means ill have time to get everything just right and maybe even do a little welding on other projects. So this thing will be going within a week. I cant wait

Got my new tyres for this build...
I welded my tank up. The welds on the tank were watertight. But the dome nuts for mounting are leaking. I ended up blowing holes in the nuts. I did my best to fix it. Ill have to get some tank sealer. I should have done what i was originally going to do and tap a thrad in a slug and weld that in, or at least use thicker nuts...... I did that with the Kroon tank. Oh well live and learn....
I just have to wait for it to rust or help it along....
I also cut and rewelded my exhaust tip and will face it downwards....
Tommorrow ill make my kickstart bracket. Ive got it designed in my head. Ill make it so the pedal chain passes through the bracket with a built in chain tensioner. I may use a derailler sprocket..... but i have a singlespeed chain and the sprocket will be for a 9 speed chain. Not sure if thats critical..... Ill have to find a spring to suit, i cant see how to get the standard spring to work. At least not a way that looks good.
I also plan to cut the dropouts off to make them a horizontal dropout, ill just cut them off and spin them and reweld them back on with a little extra gusseting. Horizontal dropouts which will make it easier to remove my wheel with jackshaft and better belt chain tension adjustment.

I got my shifter gate done in stainless steel. It wrecked two of my drill bits and went through three dremel cutting discs.... its note perfect but it doesnt have to be on this project so i didnt worry too much.
I will weld two or three bolts to the top of the tank (this will lift the gate a little and look better then straight on the top of the tank) and use dome nuts to secure it.
I also decided i like the shifter to the rear of the muffler and puts it in a more comfortable position for me. With the shifter to the rear of the muffler the barrell is still visible, and just seems to fit better IMO.
