Went riding this Sat. going to garage sales .... well actually only 2 but at the first one I met a man who thought my motorized bicycle was great and was interested in making his own . I told him to go on the internet and look up motorized bicycle kits . I am hoping that one day I wont be the only one in the area who rides a motorized bicycle

I used a v-brake adapter plate on a standard steel beach fork, and it worked wayyyyy better than the old caliper. I still have it. I'd recommend just buying a v-brake compatible fork (around $20 from Niagara, esp. for the old 1" threaded type), for the best option.

spent the last couple of months breaking in my china girl motor got all of the bugs fixed so decided to give it a long ride just to make sure I rode all over Lufkin TX put at least 60 miles on my bike and it did great . It ran and performed perfectly , the driver (me) on the other hand came home sunburnt , sore back , and dehydrated (didn't take any liquids with me) , but I had fun . I even drove past the Lufkin police dept. and they just looked and waved .

I get same thing here around Brownwood Texas, cops and all others just look or look and wave, one of my kinfolks was in town talking to an officer and he ask the officer if he had seen a fella coming through town on a bicycle that has an engine on it, both officers standing there said they had seen me and was wanting to stop me so they could look at my bike, they both commented that they would like to have one for themselves, even had a state trooper drive right up beside me while I was mobile-en down the shoulder of the main highway at 30+mph, he was grinning ear to ear and gave me a big thumbs up as he looked over my bike and then drove on off, laws in this part of Texas are very supportive of things like this as long as you ain't out there acting like an idiot and are obeying the traffic laws.

By the way fredric3144 I like your bike, my latest build with the Dax Balanced Lower is on a Kulana 7 speed also, wish I had a couple more of these bikes, very good riding bike, welds look like they were done by an expert with a Tig, gonna put suspension on front of mine soon and I have some new tires ordered that should be here any day now, hope in time I can manage to find a couple more of these bikes to build up.

Sounds awesome. Today was a very sunburning day, as my neck shows lol

Glad you had a nice ride, I'm still trying to figure out my fuel leak. lol

In Texas a lot of people put towels under their hats or hardhats to make a sun protector. There are even fancy products for it. Don't want anything that adds heat, especially to your neck, but maybe some kind of synthetic fabric for a neck wrap would work well.

This looks cool, but I'd be afraid to wear any kind of full face wrap in some places, especially if it's blue or red. (gang rappers might think you are a gangster or something)
http://www.solflaps.com/ Maybe you can get some ideas.

If you live in Texas and want to start riding motor bicycles, or already are, check in here, and tell us about your riding experiences. Texas is very motor bicycle friendly.

I live in Dallas, and have been riding for over 2 1/2 years. I've never been hassled by the police for riding my motor bicycle on the streets, and when I have time I usually ride 30 miles at a time.

If you're close enough to ride with me let me know, and we'll have fun. There's getting to more and more of us everyday.

I disagree. As a Texas native and while living in Cleburne, Fort Worth, Burleson and Joshua. I've have seen nothing but hate towards bikes. Not so much from police but from traffic. From what I've personally seen, most expect you to either ride on the sidewalk or grass, in peoples' yards anything but the main road. Lot of hate from my view point. I live in Missouri now and where I live there's designated bike lanes all over town and the first thing I noticed wasn't trucks but bikes, bikes everywhere. However, I plan on coming back for a visit Christmas, weather permitting. I'll look you up and perhaps we can cruise. I know a perfect little place for the best burgers you'll ever have in your life in Cleburne.

Hi 1kbike, welcome to the forum, and welcome to the Texas blog thread. Yeah I know what you mean. Dallas is considered one of the most bicycle unfriendly city's in America. I was mainly referring to how the authority's treat motor bicycles in Texas, not drivers in general. In a lot of other states motorized bicycles are persecuted by the police, but in Texas we can still ride free.

We should book a ride in McKinney area. There are lots of sharrows and bike lanes there, lots of smooth streets, tons of restaurants, and I've had a good time there many days on road bicycles.

I have people come up to me everywhere I go, and ask about my bikes. Most of the time though, when I tell them you can't buy one, and you have to make it yourself their eyes start glazing over. Then the next thing they want to know is how much I would charge to make one for them.

I get questioned by people of all ages, but it's usually younger people that want me to make one for them.

If they can not put one together the they sure can not ride one . For very long anyway a motorized bicycle is a work in progress always

That's true. That's one reason why I don't want to make them for anyone except my friends. I know they'll be bugging me all the time to fix their bike for them.

yep they would be over at your house or on the phone all the time during the first few 100 miles -- this stud broke off , it wont start , no power and so on an motorized bicycle isn't like a car you buy that gets bad with age a motorized bicycle improves with age just like a fine wine LOL or I hear a wine improves with age longest I have ever aged a wine is about 3 days and that was a big bottle

I don't have anything to do today, so I'm planning to ride down to the Dubliner on lower Greenville about 3:00.
