Steve, the "Indian" is looking GOOD. I must apologize for any extra detail work I may have caused. laff

I'll be posting pics of the finished engine later. I've just got a little work left to do on it. The flywheel is (convexed?) tapered down from center to outer edge. turned most of it with the lathe, but final finish must be done by hand.

I'm not finished with the exhaust or the clutch yet.
Sounds like after you post some pictures it might open up a hole new can of worms everyone will want a Jacobson. Can't wait to see the pictures.......Curt

Thanks Killer. I'm happy with the way it's turning out at last. The next tank will be a lot easier. I'm kidding.

Ya, the liquid snow isn't all that bad since I spent a good part of my life in the real stuff between Ontario and northern New England/ New York. At least you get to see the sun in between snow falls. We don't need rain tires and there aren't any rain blowers and rain shovels and it goes away by it's self.

Rick,
Thank you. The motor will make the whole bike so much better. I'll be putting the extra's on it that I was going to let slide.
No hurry on the motor ect. I know your plate is full and there are only so many hours in the day. Just appreciate you doing it for me.

I can see where once a couple of these motors are seen you will be "The man" to see for motors for Indian style builds.

Am I the only one who has spotted this golden business opportunity? Rain shovels! Invest now while the market is set to expand!

Ludwig,
Where I live the weather is just like the U.K.'s. Hence the need for rain shovels at times.
I'd like to be considered for the areas rep if you start importing.
I should add that given that the area is mostly populated by the aged, automatic rain shovels would have a larger market share over the manual ones.

Rain shovels, I can see I'm surrounded by some REAL characters!

Steve, I get time here and there to work on it. I figure with winter coming your plan was for a spring ride, as it looks I have a little time till your ready. I try never to rush thru any type of build. Plan on riding Dads around a little this weekend, see how it handles with the sidecar before I turn over the keys.

Rick,
You don't need to be nuts to work here but it helps you fit in better.

I'm going to be back at the tricar after the New Year. We're finishing the drywall in the garage and then it's on to cleaning the wood working shop out. I still have to finish the delivery trike and find an electric motor to get the Monark and the sidecar going decently. The problem is 36V and 500 W doesn't move 450 pounds very well.

Let us know how your Dad's bike and sidecar are going.

Rick,
We'll have your name on the door before you get here.

The problem with the Monark and the sidecar is that when I started I bought into the 500W limit that we have in Canada. This of course was foisted on us by our government along with the pedal bicycle clubs who were consulted about what ebikes should have.
Kind of like asking the wolf how best to protect the sheep that was.
They said that anything over 250w and a pedlac system so that nothing happened unless you pedal at the same time was the answer. In a shocking display of intellegence the government didn't buy into that and went with 500w and no pedlac system.

I went with one of the leading ebike people who has a shop in Vancouver and bought my 36v/500w system. It's fine for a single bike and rider but even now he has upped his motors by building them larger with more windings because I'm sure they were under powered.

Add a sidecar to an already heavy bike and your looking at at least a 125 pounds. Add Lumpy to the mix and now your at 375 pounds not the 450 I said but still to much for the motor to drive. As Barley said you need 48V/1000W and that is too true.
I am looking at Magic Pie and two others at the moment and will make up my mind just as to which one I'll use.

Thanks , Steve. The point of my rant(before i removed it) was there is really no need for batteries. That an EV could be powered in the same manor a locomotive is. Yup 48v/1000w will move 375lbs.the Magic Pie is a good hub motor. we've used a couple on costumers bikes this year. no complaints on them yet.

Hi Rick,
Thought you must have removed but there was no reason to. They don't allow gas powered generators on ebikes here. You can stop and charge your battery but the generator can't be running and powering the bike.

The theory behind that bit of genius is it seems that they are worried about air pollution and the motors adding to it. Ya, I know but welcome to Kanukistan where the politicians do the thinking for you since your not bright enough to. The h*ll of it is that they may be right because we keep inviting them back and never complain.

What about a propane conversion, saw a 34cc generator converted to propane on the net.

Every penny spent avoiding paying more taxes is a penny well spent!

What can I say, I just wanna stick it to the " Tax Man"

Rick,
That is a beauty. This build is getting better all the time thanks to your efforts.
Looking forward to going to a couple of motorcycle/car shows with it and Silverbears tricar and just sitting back in the crowd and listening to what people have to say.

I will be bragging about the guy that built the engine for sure.

Steve.
