Mike Chase Photography did an awesome job. Mike says he wants to make money on his photos and he is actively attempting to sell to magazines to get them published. I'm going to choose one of these photos to blow up big and hang on my wall. That will be cool. Bottom line, I think the end results of pro studio shots justify the cost and I think some of you guys should have your best work shot. Cheers.
 
Id love to see a couple of pictures shot from side on when you get a chance Cobrafreak.

Are you still on holidays? Have you given any more consideration to if you want to still go ahead with your Harley build????

Paging Mr. Freak or anyone else who has built with a thumper motor...?

How did you ever get the nut off that holds the fan blade in place?

I put my largest screwdriver through the slots in the existing pulley and so far all I’ve done is warped the h*ll out of the pulley, bent my screwdriver, and twisted the end off of socket extension...?? ?? ??

This thread should be bumped anyway "-)

Unfortunately for me the nearest Harbor Freight is 90 miles away... And I do have a breaker bar I’d try first anyway.

My question is how do you keep it from spinning as you broke the nut loose?
 
Total Comet Transmission Failure

This is made in the USA, (sic) lol. I was cruising last week on a main road about 45 mph and suddenly the rear plate from the rear Comet pulley snapped away from it's keyed shaft. It wedged into the drive chain and locked it, snapping the chain in two. On a side note, the master link didn't break. Master links must be stronger than the regular chain. Because the chain snapped in two the bike just coasted to a quiet stop. I could have met the pavement if it weren't for that. Here is what happened:

This is the back side of the Rear Comet pulley. You never see this side because it faces in toward the engine. Look closely at the welds connecting the shaft to the pulley. Sloppy welding.

Here is the break point. It came off right here. Boom! I ordered a replacement Comet pulley and it was not welded but was one piece. They must have changed the design from the plant that makes them as they knew it was a weak point. So take your rear pulley off see if it is the welded design. If it is, weld it again for more penetration or order a replacement that is a one piece design. BTW, this part had about 2200 miles on it before it snapped off giving no warning at all that it was about to die. Fortunately I didn't die! :O

An impact twists so fast that all the torque is directed to the nut. You don't even need to hold the flywheel to remove the nut with an impact.

That's not quite correct, CF.

There are repetitive strikes against the mandrel inside the tool. The exterior stub of the mandrel is what the socket goes on.

Those impacts loosen the fastener. The kinetic mass of the flywheel may prevent it from moving much, if the nut comes loose quickly.

Otherwise... well, some people use impact guns to start their engines!
