I've done a few different things. I was a shipper/reciever, driver, warehouser, and more for the last job. Now I'm getting paid to rip out building interiors. I've always been the guy that can get the tech working, wherever I've worked, too.

Hi, My Name is Tramp. Hello : Tramp, I started here, because my motorized bicycle was stolen. Worked here helping others. I am not on the staff/. I said I'm sorry, so many times, I insulted a Mod. Guess 5 years don't count.

After spending time in the service (Jet Mech) and spending some time overseas working as a district assistant in Kenwood and then into road construction I grew tired of working outdoors and now we have a video game store that turns 16 years old next month :) Its a tough job but someone has to do it.

As a kid I worked on a ranch and in between somewhere I was in retail management.

Dan.

Former ships engineer & traveling millwright who forgot Grandpa's words about not investing in the stock market (401k) if you can't afford to lose it.

Interesting thread you started, Tim. Somehow I missed it until now. I've done a lot of different things and that was my ambition as a young fellow. I wanted to experience life as fully as I could and knew early on I wasn't that concerned with getting ahead.
First job was as a lifeguard and swimming coach, got expelled from public high school and was sent to a military school by my father. Then attended college and worked for awhile as an actor & stage director. Got married and became a high school English teacher & did that for 7 or 8 years. Moved home to northern Minnesota and worked as a substitute teacher, carpenter, free lance writer and then as a newspaper feature story writer and photographer. Then worked as Director of Indian Education (I'm a mixed blood) for the local school district and was also the Indian Advocate. Third wife's dad died and we took over a smallish fishing resort near Ely, Minnesota where I did a lot of all sorts of things... maintenance, outboard engine repair, guiding, etc. until I was hit by lightning and got a traumatic brain injury which led to selling off the resort and divorce. Worked then at what I could manage... worked as a roofer for awhile, worked at a call in center for DSL computer stuff, worked for a year for Kidspeace as a counselor for incarcerated juvenile sex offenders... mostly Indian kids from all over the country who were locked up and were sex offenders themselves and had been offended against as little kids. Stressful job which led to further illness related to the damage from the lightning strike... developed Guillane Barre Syndrome which has symptoms like polio. Was then disabled and not really suitable for much any kind of gainful employment. Moved to the forest on my brother's property which had been mine in better days. Now I live in an old trailer with my dog.
Along the way I had always been interested in how things work and did my own auto work. Restored several sports cars as a young fellow, MGTD's, MGA coupe, Austin Healey 3000 roadster. Later liked fooling with old pickups and eventually motor bikes. Built a stone house at one time doing all the work myself.
No regrets. My center of gravity has always been a spiritual awareness and interest. I became a Native American pipe carrier twenty years ago or so and still take that seriously (that would be something like a shaman or minister without dogma... hard to explain as there is no real counterpart in the dominant society.) Now my quest is to be at peace with myself, enjoy living each day and doing things I like to do. Fishing, reading, making things out of wood or leather or whatever. Motorbikes are a lot of fun and I've met some remarkable people here on the forum
I guess I never really had a career, but I did accomplish a goal... to experience lots of things and live as fully as I could. I'm satisfied.

amazing,SB.glad you find life fufilling.
funny you mentioned the lightning strike.an outpost camp operator was hit a few weeks back.guess he will be facing the same difficulties along with blown eardrums.he was in a boat at the time.

i worked many years as a parts salesperson, service writer and automotive technician,at the end of it i finally got my ticket.
worked with a few friends building houses, was probably my favorite job,as it was 20+ years ago and all them houses are still standing.nice to drive by from time to time.

Learned from one of the brothers,Never send someone to do a job you wouldnt do yourself.he crawled under a building he was levelling and it collapsed, killing him instantly.
truly a man of his word.

so i stuck with the auto end of things, and got on with the manitoba government, working now as a small engine mechanic and welder/fabricator.build docks, walking bridges trailers and anything else they ask.travelling through the park on a regular basis.

this is a great forum, with great people.i enjoy visiting here very much.

Tool Junkie,
I always feel bad when I hear about someone getting hit by lightning. Yeah, he's in for a long, difficult ride. I was hit through a telephone with lightning entering my left ear and coming out between my eyes, out the forehead and crown with bleeding burns. That got my attention, but I'm not sure what the message was.

Sounds like you've done a lot of things in your life. Building a house is a pretty satisfying thing... something to stand back and say, "I did that!" Some jobs you wonder what you're doing or why, mostly getting paid to show up on time. Life is too short for that.

I have a sense that it would be a nice thing to share a boat sometime and do a little fishing, talk some. Lots of good folks on this forum and I suspect that you sir are one of them.

Cool thread. I was a pressroom supervisor for a commercial printing company in ny until march of 2013. I worked for 22 years for them. Now I collect unemployment and just moved to florida. Looking for work REALLY sucks! Its tough... I want to work so bad I can taste it!

I'm a land surveyor. I calculate boundaries and write legal descriptions. I can draft plans in AutoCAD and MicroStation but the young guys and girls are much faster. I worked outside in the field as a party chief and rod man for years, staking property corners, roads, utilities, etc. I was in the Marine Corps and the bank alarm business before that.

I've been in retail management since the beginning of time......auto parts, department store, and now big box home improvement. I even owned a hardware store in the distant past. I wasn't there the day that dirt was invented, but I do remember the day that the patent on it expired.

I'm a customer service rep for one of the Big 4 cellphone carriers. Sure beats the **** out of being a csr for DirecTV, that's where I was up until about a year ago, and the only similarity between the two jobs is the fact that I'm on the phone all day...

16 year veteran paper mill employee. Worked 12 hr shifts first as a multi function lift truck operator and also as a spare production Foreman. Now for the past 12 years working in television production and operations for my local Public Television Station, doing many many things television.

When I worked at the Papermill I always thought my job was secure as long as people used toilet paper to wipe butts. Then they started buying raw materils from Canada and changed everything...

Now in Broadcast Television I see things are going internet--U-Tube, Apple TV and Roku. It wont be long, Broadcast Television too is going the way of the dinosaurs.

I keep plugging away and loving bikes..trk
