I tried a bat box once, wasps took it over before any friendlies moved in :( I should've put a hinged roof on it for clearing them out. It ended up in the fire pit.

My father inlaw builds bird and bat houses kinda as a hobby, I don't know if he has had any tenants in the bat house tho. We had a birthday party for my daughter on the fourth and he said he was going to bring us a bat house for our yard.

Hadn't thought of that Killer. Would be a bummer and will hinge

Was just thinking about this. Gonna be open on the bottom with a metal troth catcher thing to gather the guano.

Cool Greg. If ya happen to think of it, could ya ask for any pointers for me? I am sure there has to be some finer points to em.

Just read you can buy bats like a starter set. Kinda cracked me up. Like an ant farm or some thing.

Not really liking the idea of introducing wildlife from away though.

Will do Dan, we already have bats that circle the yard light bug hunting every night. That's why he brought up giving us one.

"To help the Bats find the house, find an existing bat roost and collect a handful of their droppings. Mix in some water and spread the mix thinly on the ladder. As mentioned in this instruct able bats have sensitive noses, they will smell the house and investigate. A friend tried this on one of the four roosts he built, and it was the first one the bats moved into.

Gordy"

LOL, where TH am I gonna find bat poop? It's summer and all the good bat poop stores are closed.

this island has tons of bats of all types and sizes. found this old abandoned building and went inside and something was weird. i looked up and their was literately thousands of bats hanging from the ceiling. a few weeks later my daughters came to visit with some friends. 6 girls in their early 20s. anyway i told them i found this old building that looked like it had been a long ago cult or something their. made it out to be really scary so they were nervous when we got their. anyway told them thier was a message written in blood on the far wall that i wanted them to see if they could see what it said. had to do some convincing for them to enter the building. i waited till they were halfway to the other side of building and said "shhhh. look up" lol. they all looked up and i screamed and stomped my feet. friggen bats were everywhere and started flying. could hardly see the exit out of the building., they were all screaming and running trying to get out of the building. i got out and fell to the ground laughing like a crazy man. they didn't think it was very funny till later that night

Tonight's the big night. Comity meeting/planning board thing.

Not that I am expecting it to be a problem but is the historic district and next to wetlands. I greatly respect both. Am expecting some sort of small "well, ya gotta.." stuff. Really don't wanna mess with the water critters either. Not sure how I could as there will be a bucket and not a men's tree. They have found caffeine in lakes and ponds. Guess where that came from. lol, excited and nervous frogs and turtles having trouble sleeping? Gold fish gone wild?
