Re: Dave31 scsw BoXer

Hey Dave is that an easy fix or do you have to order parts?
One of the 2-shoe clutch pads snapped in half again. Same thing it did last time, going to have to order some new pads again.

Hopefully I can upgrade to the 3-shoe so i wont have this problem anymore. The 2-shoe....SUCKS!!

Man I have spanked my three shoe clutches on my S6S and S6T wicked hard and they still work! They don't even look worn down yet..I think more and more that the two shoe clutches are not good clutches from what I have been seeing and hearing. Never get to even wear them down. They always break in half at one of the shoes.:(

Thats what happened to mine about 2 months ago so thinking economy i bought another two shoe for $100 from Herdan -- then i got thinking the last time it locked up my rear wheel and that could be fatal so i ordered the 3 shoe for $200 he said he only had 3 of them left. So i have a spare two shoe now but i probably wont ever use it..

The three shoes have worked well for me in that I have not broken any. I had one that had a lot of vibration and I couldn't figure it out. Finally replaced the shoes and the problem went away.

alot of dirt bikes have teflon runners with counter sunk screws that seem to work pretty good. i have a sealed roller on mine but a skate board wheel with a notch [guide] will work too. just my 2 cents good luck dennis

Re: Dave31 scsw BoXer

When I was running the ten tooth stock S6S/S6T sprocket on mine and had not tightened up the rear shock spring enough it rubbed a lot there on my bumps. I got the 11 tooth engine sprocket that coincidentally made my gearing match nicer. The rubbing then stopped for me and running my 52 tooth rear sprocket is helping with clearance as well.. There are a couple spots in town that I can bottom the suspension at going 35/40 mph on occasion for checking if I really wanna. My guess I think I am cured? Other than that has not been bad. I had to make a spanner tool to finally tighten my spring nut collar enough and only have a 650 pound spring. Would not mind a heavier one but it's working good so far for what I need.

I am too big and tall to off road my bike @ 250 p + cargo I think some times... but really if I run a taller gear in the back prolly be just fine as I would get way more chain clearance. The only gearing I have tried is my currant city configuration. It seems to do perfectly fine in town. My sus is kinda soft.. it's grown on me as hella comfy and I like it for my city runs. I have the same rub marks at 5000 miles can't tell from your pict but I think mine are the same dunno? I took my swing arm off to grease the pivots points and got to looking at that spot. My take on it was that once the chain digs in a little the chain's rollers comes into play and it can't really dig in any more as the roller just glides by..

I gave it a lot of thought and there seams to me to be enough steel embodiment in this corner I am not gonna worry too much as of yet..Like all things I do keep an eye on mine tho..

Robin runs the great big tall off road rear sprocket I wounder what his looks like? my guess looks pretty good!

Re: Dave31 scsw BoXer

Hi,

These full suspension morini's are custom ordered from Dean, correct?

I noticed that you seem to have issues with chain tension, both drive and pedal. Is there a way that Dean could fabricate/modify the bike to fix this issue?

Are your brake pads hard to find? Are they readily available?

How will you fix your chain rubbing issue?

What kind of mileage would you get if you have the stock carb and are just cruising at 40 or 50mph?

Sorry for all the questions, but I want to know because If I order one, I wanna be sure I can maintain it and it won't break on me. Especially if I have to go back to Europe. I wonder what the laws are for these things in europe.

I have been using my China RAW 80cc kit with some aftermarket performance parts and I had to literally fix something on my bike every freaking week. Now, my gear nuts have totally come loose and the threads are gone. I am just so pissed off about it, because I spent $500 or more (not to mention countless hours of getting parts and fixing the bike). I need something super reliable, that will go above 40mph, and is somewhat legal. Oh and have good gas mileage.

Re: Dave31 scsw BoXer

No wear there but at first the engine drive chain was too loose so i put teflon rectangular pieces on the frame held by zap straps works fine later i also moved the rear wheel back some andd no problems it lifted the chain enough for good clearance.

Re: Dave31 scsw BoXer

Just a reminder this is after 2 years and thousands of miles on my BoXer.

First thing I am going to do is adjust the chain to its proper tension. Combination of loose chain and soft suspension set-up for off-road that caused this problem.

Yes, the BoXers custom made by Dean.

Issues? Just normal wear and tear. It can be a pain to get both chains at the proper tension but it can be done.

Most BoXers don't come with my brakes, not hard to find after I really got looking for them. Just finding a set at a price I was comfortable with was the hard part. Any bike shop will be able to order the pads for me if they do not have them in stock.

Well, the chain will be fixed with proper tension and just stiffening the rear suspension will avoid chain on swing-arm contact. But I am going to weld it up and add something for the chain so we dont have chain on swing-arm contact. I will post it as I get around to repairing it.

Millage 40-50mph? First my BoXer only tops out at 42mph. And mileage? I have no clue, never kept track of mileage. I just gas up and ride!

Re: Dave31 scsw BoXer

Sounds good. Nothing major happened.

What size sprocket are you using?
What speed does the clutch engage?

Could a 9.4hp S6-s be geared up to 50 mph? maybe 60 mph?

According to this photo, the exhaust seems to end abruptly. It looks like the exhaust is going right back into the engine. There is no stinger?

Kristof I am ruining a 48T sprocket, so is my buddy Alex with his 9.4. I get 42mph he gets 48-50mph with the same 48T sprocket.

The exhaust runs into the frame at the top bar and exit's on the down tube.

K, thanks.

So you have the 5.4?

Any guess on mpg? Just so I can get an idea. Maybe 80 mpg?

Re: Dave31 scsw BoXer

kristov, really if you want to go 60+ mph safely, get a motorcycle. dave31's boxer go's 40+ and thats pretty fast for a bicycle. why do you want to go so fast? everyone drives so fast in so.county and alot of nice people turn into rude ass's as soon as they get behind the wheel of their car. be carefull and watch out what you wish for. good luck dennis

The boxer in my opinion is safer to ride. It doesn't weigh 300 or 600lbs, which means it will stop a lot quicker given that you have a good set of brakes.

I just want to know if this full suspension morini is more fuel efficient than maybe a 200cc or 250cc motorcycle.

Re: Dave31 scsw BoXer

K, thanks.

Top Speed:

I hear what you are saying, I have the 9.4 S6s on an Aluminum frame with no suspension. Itll Easily do 55mph++ with my 42 tooth sprocket yet Ive went to a larger (56, but Ive even tried a 60) sprocket for safety issues. At 55mph hitting small bumps start to feel like moon craters and your eyes start tearing up and the water runs out of the sides of your eyes.

Fuel consumption:

I have found that it does not get what I would consider "great mileage" for a Broped. This is because it spins above 10,000 rpm and makes nearly 10hp. In order for any internal combustion engine to make 10hp it is going to have to consume 10hp worth of fuel. They are thirsty little guys that is for sure, I would be surprised if mine got 35mpg. On the other hand my Honda GX-35 with the GEBE kit get an honest 180 mpg.

If your looking for a littler better fuel economy Id almost think about a larger displacement 4 stroke with the proper gearing should be able to get you to the mid 40s and will cruise at lower RPMs than the Morini. You must understand these things arent what I would consider to be a cruising bike. They are screamers, very crisp on/off type throttle, mine would rather be at WOT or simply idling. Hope this helps.

Re: Dave31 scsw BoXer

Thanks, it really helped.

But, according to the numbers:

Either Dave has a 5.4 or he is getting really good mileage when you compare it to your bike. He said he gestimates 25-30 on 1.5L. 4 liters is about 1 gallon. So he could get about 70-80 MPG. That's not bad.
