The first machinist had to buy a tap as well, and his work was still cheaper then this guy. Its more like when someone stuffs up your stuff you usually charge the contractor, but i didnt.

I wouldnt have had a problem paying/helping pay for the taps he purchased, but price was never an issue. He brought up buying the taps to somehow explain his incompetence.

I should take him to small claims. $50 to him, $20 to replace the pulley and i still didnt get what i asked for.

Id think about going and asking for my money back but i may end up doing something stupid.......

And i have no idea either why he machined the end. Maybe he was learning to use his lathe???????????????????????

I had the seats and valves cut. The machinist I went to had to buy shorter guides to do the work on the 2 engines. He told he would not charge me for them. He even said he probably would have some use for them later. He was just being nice I think. $10 per valve or seat and I ended up paying $40. It was a Thursday, he said he would order it Friday as it was late. He got them and did the work finished on Monday afternoon.

No excuse for this numbskull that messed up your order!

No my pulleys should be rady end of this week, start of next week.

You should just go to your photobucket albums page. When the cursor goes over the photo you wish to choose a box will pop up. In that box one will say "IMG CODE", position cursor over "IMG CODE" and left click on your mouse and it shoud say "copying".

Now go back to Motorbicycling.com and go to the window where you enter your text, right click on mouse, and go to "paste" and right click. That should copy your photo.

Hope that helps, would love to see your pics man....

ok if this works there should be the 42 malvern star and some pics of the frame and font springer forks and the drum brake front hub that i am makeing at the moment kenauflg

Did Malvern Star make a motorized bike? Is that a Villiers?

malvern star is a 1942 malvern star autocycle and yes its a villiers 98 cc junoir deluxe motor the same as in my excelsior and also in my yet to be finnished francis barnet powerbike . The project bike frame, forks and front hub are all my own work i plan on making most of this my self to my own taste but old worldly enough so as to have the re-storers (read "paint it black and put it back) scratching thier heads and flicking through thier id books . ken

Id love to know what clutch setup you use? Is there a gearbox?

How do these 98cc Villiers go? As my bike was geared too high i didnt really get a feel for it.

What gearing is on your bike?

I think we can learn a lot from you Wilrod.

Ive been stuffed around a bit by my the machinist, cant find/get to a new machinist until Monday and then he needs to finish the job. So hopefully mid next week i should have the new pulleys/belts ready to go and testride.

I also bought a 2" front pulley so now i will have a 2" and 3" front pulley, surely the gearing will be right with one of those
Can I ask?
Have you calc'ed out the overall gearing required for your projected operating speed? as compared to what other villiers equipped machines are achieving?

I did use the calculator to work out the gearing. I saw that other people used a reduction of 8:1 with other motors. So i went for the same. Wasnt right. So now im going for around an 11:1 reduction which will only get me around 20mph if i remember correctly. Hardly a rocketship but as long as it chuggs along ill be happy.

To be honest i had never even seen one of these engines 6 months ago. I was looking for Briggs engines on EBay when i saw one of these and fell in love with the look of them. I didnt know anything about them and i certainly had no info to compare to other Villiers machines....

the villiers junior deluxe 98cc was built for use by autocycle maufactures during the 40's and early 50's they have an inbuilt wet clutch but are only single speed , in 1947 excelsior started making its own autobyk motors the goblin and the sprint known as a G1 or a S2 the 2 denotes it is a 2 speed gearbox/motor combo BUT trying to find one of these sprint 2 speed jobs is almost imposable here in aust . In my project bike i am going to use an atco villiers with the slooping head fins but leaning over so the fins are level run a primary belt to a gearbox from an unknown early british m/cycle has hand shifter then belt to rear wheel ,belt tensioner type hand clutch, pedal powered to start or use the kick starter on g/box when on its stand . ken

Im not sure it was a G1 or S2 but there was a 98cc Villiers with 2 speed gearbox on EBay only a few weeks ago and went for $350. Unfortunately i didnt have the spare cash. I still wake up in cold sweats thinking i should have bought it. Oh well

Ive also seen gearboxes for sale on EBay for a Villiers but the seller was one of those big sellers that dont post or know about what the product is off. Maybe i should have bought that too and tried to make it work, but im not as mechanically minded as some others on here. But im learning....

yes i ride them all the time, they could be regoed But in Vic the law is if it is less than 200watts power out put you dont need rego. these bykes are 60plus years old and were rated at one english horse which by my trails is actualy more like 1/4 modern h/p now 1h/p =749watts therfore 1/4 h/p =187watts which is less than 200 = NO rego.,now these are 98cc same as the villiers atco so drive ratio should be about the same i have a deluxe motor striped down in the shed can count both primary and secondary sprocets/ratios thurs night if you want to know output ratio ken

I found that with the picture retangle on the horizontal, I take with my Blackberry and then make a jpeg, it will post here. If I make the jpeg on the other axis tall instead of wide, it wouldn't take it and specifically said so.

I actually put one of the pictures turned 90 degrees and posted it here and it worked. You have to tilt your head to see the picture right so that's not so good.

Don't know if it is just that simple a fix for what you experienced. Advanced replies using the paperclip to put attached photos max 5 ea is what I have used and works.

Hope that may solve some issues with posting pics.

Wilrod, we have the same law here in Queensland, but isnt very clear but it does say that all "internal combustion" engines are illegal. You may wanna check as it could be the same? I was under the assumption that these are banned Australia wide...

But im planning to just say what you said, and pretend i didnt know and hope for the best....

If you could tell me your drive line setup (gearing) it would be greatly appreciated, and probably handy for a few others following this build and planning on a Villiers build and could save them a little work....
