The Skyhawk GT frame build

Exactly what I am referring to.

Sorry, I couldn't complete my edit on my last post. I was using my new-to-me Ipod when I made it. It was the first time ever that I have been on the internet and not used a computer.
I was making mistakes left and right, the screen is sooo teeny tiny!

Anyways, I digress.
This is what I recommend and have used on my Point Beach:

I used a 44 tooth chainring.
The above set up is a bit pricy, but near bulletproof and worth every penny.

You can either use their (SBP's) crank arms or I used the bent ones that I got from bicycle-engines.com: http://www.bicycle-engines.com/3pc-Wide-Crank-Pedal-Kit-4S-CDS-3pcCRANK.html

I cannot recommend using the whole kit from bicycle engines.com because, for me at least, the sprocket mount is cheesy and the bottom bracket spindle poorly finished, is extremely soft and bends way too easily.

You could, but then you would be at a loss as how to attach a sprocket to the bottom bracket spindle.

The B-E.com sprocket uses a cotter key and nut to hold the sprocket onto the spindle.
**Lame.**

The SBP spindle has a keyway machined into it to accept a woodruff key and their sprocket adapter also has a matching keyway ( and the woodruff key comes with it).
This is a very strong and reliable method of attachment.

You could use the B-E.com cheesy sprocket on the SBP spindle if you filed down a flat spot on the spindle to accept the cotter key. I highly recommend against this though.
Cotter keys are very old technology that work well...once. Take them apart and most of the time you have problems re-assembling them later.
Take my old setup for example, the cotter key received a deep gouge in it and at the same time rounded the edge off of the matching flat spot on the cheesy soft B-E.com spindle.
 
Ok thanks. Starting to get frustrated again. Lol. I guess I could use one of the sbp chain rings, but I kinda wanted something with more style....heck, I dunno. Lol

Just tell them that you want the SBP shifter kit bolt pattern and it will bolt up like a breeze, and look really nice too! I have one on the rear of my Point Beach. It totally cleaned up the looks of the rear wheel.

I still need to file a hole oblong in the pedal sprocket so I can actually get a bolt to the the chain guard mount tab on the frame and then install the chain guard. I have been holding off on it because I want to get a Kings sprocket for the pedal sprocket instead.
Just for the looks of the Kings sprockets, and there would be no filing needed either.
 
This is a great thread! Thanks for taking the time to share your build. I had considered doing one of these before I did my Felt 1903. I had been planning on motoring one of our Dyno Roadsters next, but I think I will do one of these instead.

I am sure I will be calling on the guys at Jake's for several much needed parts.dance1
 
I really like this bike & I'm leaning toward this frame for my first build. I'm thinking 4 stroke 79 cc preddy or a 110 cc copy of the lifan. Would 3" tires n rims work on this frame.I'm ordering thisweek & I will start my first thread.
