So my gas cap is not venting enough and/or my fuel filter is too restrictive, so I'm going to take car of both issues today. The float bowl is emptying out on long runs, IE, the fuel flow isn't keeping up with the carb demands.

I removed the petcock and got rid of the half clogged in tank filter and blew it out with brake clean.

I replaced the small copper filter with a big paper one, so hopefully the fuel flow will be unrestricted.

My cap broke so I fixed it and had to put a new top on it because I had to peel back the chrome cap, so I used an old radiator cap to cover the inside part after I drilled holes in the pressure flap for venting.

Kinda cool, it's made in England, lol.

At least until I get a proper cap for this thing, like the locking one.

I gotta say, you're a dedicated man. You have done an unbelievable amount of work on this bike. Kudos to ya man. Enjoy yourself ridin' it, you earned it.

Half clogged petcocks can ruin a good day, for sure. Having to stop every 5-10min for the bowl to fill back up... gah!

The Raven has come a long way :D

:)

I haven't done a top speed yet since it had the fuel delivery problem but I calculated it will max out at 60 at redline. SO far I"ve wound out the speedometer past 60 so I imagine I'm doing at least 50. I don't have GPS to check, but I really don't care too much this bike is about the pleasure of the cruise really. I plan to use it to cruise at about 40-50 mph or less since I realize it's still a Schwinn Bicycle lol. Now with the big sprocket it will take off from a stop and has good acceleration even with the clutch set up very slippy.

I was gonna use it as a possible race bike for June 1, but I'm broke and would rather save this for use commuting since driving around here is frustrating, and slowing down will help me enjoy life again. I might, but it's gotta be 100%, which is gonna take sorting it out. She cruises smooth as glass and tracks smooth and straight as an arrow, and the seat position allows the boys to breathe, all in all a comfortable ride lol.

Thank you for your kind words, this has been one of the biggest personal fabrication projects I've ever taken on, and I'm pretty happy with the results! :)

Pretty happy? The dang thing looks like a forking motorcycle...dude its an absolute beauty and a very well thought out and fabricated piece of machinery...thank you for taking the time to present and document your steps and re steps to get her there...and 50 on a bicycle? Sheesh man I crap my pants everytime I hit 35...lol

Great job 16...thanks for the inspiring work

Just took a ride and the motor sounds fuller, didn't run into any starvation issues. I also managed to spook a horse at 100 yards and turned around, lol.

I also realized I was only twisting half throttle, now I realize why Martin & Slater offer the 1/4 turn throttle as a performance part, this thing is like a 1/2 turn throttle, I got into a croutch and twisted full and if came to bellowing life, lol!

My muffler o-ring is toast again I think, it really needs an aluminum crush washer that size instead of composite. I'm gonna see if it might work without one in there, with copper silicone too.

Thanks Wickedest1, it's been a long journey that is far from over, lol.

I wish it had a freewheel mechanism (yeah right, 9 hp lol) so I don't have to keep throttle in it to avoid leaning it out when cruising. The clutch stays engaged and the internal one way bearings in the gear reduction don't do much at high revs.

Fixed the muffler gasket for now with a piece of aluminum welding rod bent into a split ring, I'm gonna retorque it after a heat cycle because its gonna flatten from the muffle vibrating about (nearly) unsupported.

Had a random piece of aluminum for a heat shield so the exhaust doesn't melt the filter. I don't really want to wrap the exhaust on this since it's a daily ride, I hate that stuff.

I don't know if I can afford to go down there since I'm kinda broke working on four motorbikes simultaneously, living in Marin, being a Mech Eng student, and maintaining two Mercedes, but I'll try. Don't hold your breath, lol.

Geared this way or with a 44t for long legs its simply a heavy mushy bike I wouldn't really consider for racing. It's a cruiser that looks fast, and it can go fast, but I don't want to spend a lot of time at 60mph on a hardtail frame, the results of which you have seen with cracked bikes.

If I finish my x-games motobike build then I'll definitely take it for a spin down there for fun. It doesn't have pedals so you'll DQ me automatically. :)

I finally got it to stay full on long pulls I think, by drilling the fuel cap with four holes the size of the ones in the bottom, this thing can empty the tank just as fast as it will pour!

Gonna change the oil and inspect it, and replace it with D4 without friction modifier in it. I'd like the clutch to pick up lower now, since I realize it's nice for slippy taekoff right now but my eardrums are ringing! lol

Noisiest MFing bike I've ever heard, lol. I need to go play elsewhere so people don't get pissed at me.

It'll do 55ish wound out with this sprocket realistically, and it sounds like a full on GP going on, I'm happy cruising at 35 since this is realistically my first motorized bicycle and I don't know what to expect from it.

I went for a ride today and emptied my peanut tank in about 12 miles of riding, lol. I think there was a little over a liter in there, so that means it only gets maybe 50ish mpg.

My brake lever bolt vibrated out and I lost it at the end of a long high speed run. Fortunately I was able to ride back and find it, the new bolt will get loctite, as will every bolt on this thing because when you really lean into it and the clutch is hooked up 1:1, holy crap hold on for the noise and high speed buzz ride of your life! Its nowhere near as bad as a HT but it's insane blaring right in your face, if you're into that kinda thing lol.

But overall it's good, I can't complain I was able to empty a tank of gas today through the motor and it rode well. I just hate how with a two stroke you want to go faster and faster just to keep the engine oiled, I could foresee just banging off the limiter constantly when I get used to this thing, getting 5 mpg. The gearing is just right for riding around at sane motor bicycle speeds though, I wish I could have a second gear with an overdive ratio similar to running the old 44t sprocket, that would be awesome.

Today I'll change the clutch oil and do some plug rips and see if I need to rejet. I might try the coil springs for the clutch as well as different stacks of beleville washers. I think I can have the clutch pick up lower and still have good power since I don't have to worry about bogging the motor with this gearing.

The oil I drained out looked good, only maneaged to get 200cc out, so it might have vaporized about 50cc of the oil I put in, 200cc is still more than what's recommended spec, so that's what I added back with D4 ATF without any friction modifier added this time, and I'll see how she runs.

Went for an epic ride today, my hands are still buzzing lol

The engine is really smooth but you do feel the pulses when you're ripping, which is fine.

The clutch picks up at a lower point which is nice for cruising but it did prevent the bike from screaming like it can on the uphills, it was sufficient by moped standards on the steepest stuff though. It really likes hillclimbing where you can lay into the gas for the whole time, lol.

It's really fun to carve around especially with the responsive rear brake :D

I have it running well on the rich side and its a gas hog but I don't want to blow it up, the thing seems crazy when its at full chat almost scary.

So I've gone through a gallon of gas today and there's 6.7 hours on the motor and 110 miles on it in its current form.

I'm very happy with it and wonder how much it would rip with less or no exhaust packing but it is very loud so I'll leave it, lol.

It doesn't seem to want to pull all the way to the rev limiter or top speed or whatever unless I release the throttle a couple times to clear it out, but when I do it runs very smooth and sounds like a GP start! The acceleration is about as good as a car when you hole shot right and it just needs a push off to get going.

I could lean it out, but that's a bad idea. Currently I'm using Lucas at 40:1, which smells like paraffin so I think it's a synthetic paraffin blend. It works okay, I bet Yamalube or a castor based oil would make this bike really rip but the plug stays relatively clean currently and has a good color.

It does seem to be better for uphill and downhill around corners rather than straight-line high speed cruising, you can go about 45 constantly, anything over that and it gets like 15 mpg and is insanely loud, feels a bit vibratey. The big 415 chain going really fast is noisy obviously, and the engine likes to be constantly on the full throttle pump circuit. It basically rides like a kid's dirtbike lol.

People in cars are absolute *******s when they encounter a moped I see, awesome. :/

Real nice work but it really is a motorcycle now. There is nothing moped about it
