Sportsman project coming up...questions

I had a set of those Velo orange bars. They have a nice bend to them but were a weird size. Just slightly larger than 7/8" so it would have been difficult to mount up the clutch and front brake lever.

BUGGER!!!....that must be the same as a set reverse brake levers i have from a triathlon bike.....otherwise like i said earlier, look for bars you can cut down.... if you can find a suitable set of ape hangers and cut the "L" shape off the ends you should be left with something similar to the Velos but with the right diameter

I suggested that to him earlier, im not sure he read it or maybe Brett suffers from ADD and is frantically googling every bar ever made :-)..... just kidding Brett, you are very thorough and it gets good results and i am liking those VO bars you found, they are a winner i think

hehe. I think it's funny how there's all these syndromes like ADD get given names. I heard about one recently that I think didnt sound so bad: hypomania. In the wiki definition it says "Classic symptoms of hypomania include mild euphoria, a flood of ideas, endless energy, and a desire and drive for success."

Yeah I tried turning them upside down but didnt like how they looked.

Ive ordered the belleville bar, looks like another boardtracker type of bar to me. Did that style come later, or was it more a Harley bar than Indian?
Im also gonna get the postino once they're in stock early next month (we have a NZ supplier that actually has this stuff, go the Kiwis Harry, sorry about the rugby world cup & your man Quenton)

maybe you had the 23.8 bar? they come in 22.2mm & 23.8mm.

happy with the stem.
my wife told me I have to do more work in the bathroom renovation so Im not sure when I'll get to try out my chainbreaker & set up the motor. Im hoping that the belleville bars will turn up quickly & that they send me the 22.2mm like I asked & not the 23.8mm :-)

Have you tried out a stem from a dragster? IMO they look a lot better and less mountain bikey, they are lower and closer to the rider..... but i guess its all about taste

yeah of course you beat us in the world cup but the only people that watch union here are people from private schools.... so i aint worried LOL..... but whos "our man Quenton"????

private schools LOL
the warriors will win the league next year!
Quenton is one of your star rugby players who didnt play so great in the RWC. He's been getting a bit picked on since then, apparently.

Not really a league fan either, and have no idea who Quenton is...... but i have been forced to watch some Union by my girlfriend who likes it and loves to watch the Haka and New Zealand play but i think thats only because she has the hots for the NZ captain...... pretty boy LOL.

yeah there's a lotta pretty boys in there. my wife and older son are way into watching league, rugby, basketball, so I keep up with it thru their obsession.

the haka has become like a fine art for the All Blacks.

It seems they sloped these bars at the same angle as the downtube on the frame, from my observation.
Because I dont have the drop loop my frame is not so steep so I can slope them at an easier angle for riding.

The Haka is sooooo cool and very intimidating, more so when theres a lot of maoris in it.... but i did see an old Haka that made me laugh, not sure what the sport was, but they were an all white team and the Haka was absolutely pathetic and rather funny.

Run the bars at whatever works for you and is comfy, or just get the look you want and live with it..... you get used to it.

Harry you should know me by now. Because Im so 'obsessive'? it'll have to be at the exact same angle as the downtube.
Not that this build is by any means authentic in detail, but I decided I wanted it to look more like a boardtracker than a cruiser.

Haha yeah you are obsessive but like i said it gets results....Well if you are really after that look i would be getting a dragster stem, if you are that worried about the angle of the bars,

That Harley picture above is just too cool. Did you check out the pedal system? First time I have noticed that system with the raised pedal crank. As for bars and angles I am picky, too. I run my center bar at the same angle as the head tube. Past the drop clamps I run the outer angles so the bar ends make full contact with the gas tank just below the bottom corner where the tank can't get easily dented. I put so much work into gas tanks my worst fear is denting one from slaming a handlebar into it.

Yeah your bars look freakin great Pat. (I just wanted to be different).
And yeah I didnt notice the pedal crank until you said. I look mainly at aesthetics & you look at engineering and aesthetics. Like you I just thought that bike is too cool. Here's the full size original, from someone's blog

Hey Pat Im not ready yet, but Im just wondering...you remember those size limits that USPS have for sending stuff to NZ? Do you think there would be a way to package a drop loop frame (the China motor mounts type) under that size limit...?

I have about 1.5mm clearance between the engine drive chain & the oil tank, is this enough?
This is with the hub sprocket over as far as I can get it, & the oil tank shifted outta the way as much as possible.
If I try & shift the hub sprocket out any further it hits the brake arm.

Wow! Nicely done Brett! Im a black and silver man myself but this black and gold scheme you've got goin on is just KILLER!

I had this issue too. I ended up mounting my oil tank half an inch away from the chain. Nobody notices that it is more to the right than left.
