Bairdco Racing Series Begins, March 17th in Riverside, CA!

for those of you who ain't afraid of a little rain and plan on camping out, there is an upper pit level for you, with room for rv's, etc.

you can show up anytime friday. after hours, the gate will be closed, but unlocked. please close it after you. alcohol and fires are allowed in the upper area, but not in the pits, so come on down and have a ball.

i was planning on going out friday night, but i'm not a pro camper, and i'm not prepared to sleep in the rain, just in case.

there's open practice before us (not a part of our race) and if those guys are as scared of a little water as the rest of us, we should be able to ride the track, too. i'm not 100% sure about that, though.

if more and more of you guys puss out, i might just have an "isle of bairdco" endurance race...:)

i also wanna say, if you're worried about wasting a whole 35 bucks in the rain, take a look at it from my perspective. i can't call it "rained out" and postpone it for another day. if no one shows, i just paid almost 10 times that much to rent a track for myself and a few other die-hards to go play in the rain.

Ill still pay the 35 bucks to you even if I don't show up because of the rain . You took a chance and rented the track for us to race on . Not your fault it decided to rain on your event . I am going to try and make if its not pouring, If I don't you can still count on my entry fee ....

I am with Andy on this one...I will still pay for my two entry fees...

I am just not prepared to race in the rain and don't want anyone hurt...

You'll get my $35 and I don't even think I can ride my bike at all. Today has got to be the worst day that my back is feeling since my vehicle accident. But ill still go and watch everyone have fun.

No wussy's here! me and Alex are on are way first thing in the morning.

That is one fast moving storm and the rain will die down in the evening, we have the track until 10pm. They are predicting less then .5, thats nothing! Either it will rain hard for a little while or just drizzle for hours. No Biggie!

on top of everything else, i broke my phone a few hours ago, and i dunno if i can get one tomorrow. hopefully my company comes through. if you need to get ahold of me use my email, [email protected], or post here.

i'm going to be at the track by 8am saturday morning. i'll post updated weather reports all through the day. ya never know what's gonna happen with california weather.

We're praying for no rain... I'll pay rain or shine. :)
I also have some parts & a bunch of shirts to give to Baird to hand out for prizes... but I'm not sure how to get them out there if it rains & we don't go? :/

I'll just be there to race.....I'd hate to win by default, rain or shine. It may just snow.....supposed to in the local Mtns in San Diego this week end. Ya just never know?

OK then, I'd like to know how many electric bikes are gonna show up to smoke the pants off of the gassers in the rain......can I see a show of hands please?

See you in the pits!

OK Scotto, no Smoke this time, just call me 'Sparky.'

I see the e-bikes needing a remote controller working out of a dry mini-van protected from the rain.....would that work?

hehe not at all scotto,
The only thing that water is bad for is the micro components inside the magic box that is the controller... We would "wear in" new brushes on or rc racing motors by dunking them in a glass of water & letting em run.

I also won a $20 bet riding my bmxer submerged in in lake michigan for a 100feet or so. no ill effects whatsoever, (other than needing to re-oil my bearings & such) water schmater :)

speaking of wich, has anyone build a motoreised FatBike yet? perfect fun for the beach!

stay warm tomorrow......it was a record high of 76 today in MI! perfect sunny day...I'll try to send it your way.xct2

Have you confirmed this is a wet-capable kart track in the configuration you plan to run it?

Weather underground says 100% chance of rain. A track the permits the use of traction compounds can not operate in the wet (they turn to a snot that is hard to even walk across with out falling). Tracks that are not designed with good drainage also typically close in rain, even if everyone has rain tires.

I just want to confirm that if I'm going to drive 16hours in the rain with my bike hanging out of the back of my Honda's hatch between tonight and tomorrow night to do this thing that I'm not showing up to a track that has corners coated in VHT snot (meaning they won't allow anything to ride it) or sections that look more like a lake than a wet race track.

Just called the track.

They said they will allow kart racing rain or shine (which is great because it means no VHT snot and they have drains), and that no events had been canceled for tomorrow. :-)

Woot!

I'm personally out for this one.

I geared up and went for a rip on the streets here around work in the rain, and my bike is just setup extremely poorly for rain. I can't get enough braking traction to get it to shift it's weight onto the front tire (and no rear brake) so it just wants to wash out like a mofo. I could spin the tire and make it fishtail with 1/8th throttle at 50mph... Felt like driving a top-fuel dragster with roller-skates installed instead of tires. I would need to de-tune a 40hp decrease out of her to be able to road race her effectively, and then it's still not going to brake well and be a heavy wet pig. My light weight reasonable ~10hp commuter bike is mid-upgrade at the moment as well, and I wouldn't be able to finish in time to make the drive.

I'm sorry I won't be joining you guys, I hope it goes awesome and an electric takes the win as usual. :-)

Now that is exactly what I was thinking Luke.....too much power and not enough braking on the electrics in the wet, I'm glad you acknowledge that. I doubt the electrics will be a threat tomorrow, but I could hardly careless being beaten by an electric bike one way or the other.

I do see this as being more than just a wet sloppy race.......I see it as an opportunity to wash my bike effortlessly for the first time (still have dirt from the drive into the Grange race track).

See yas in the pits.......unless they close the 215 on my way up tomorrow.
