Rick, when it gets to that level B.F.H. is indeed satisfying as well as a great stress reliever. It also requires one to go back and start over with proper attention to detail.

I've been working on the bike for the past two days and a working solution for the clutch has eluded me like thief in the night. Tomorrow we continue on.

Not usually up at this hour but have a pot of pinto beans about finished and thought I'd let cool off for a few minutes before refrigerating...be good good enough to eat in a couple of days. Sit & absorb the seasoning, the beans....
The clutch is just fighting you a bit. I've been itching to use my 3 D on a project but don't have an engine at this time. I don't think my young friend is going to need it for his bike build. He has a lot going on and I'm just not going to build a bike for him if he can't do most of the actual fab work and assembly himself. This is just a hobby for me and I've no interest in turning it into a business...just don't have time left on the clock to cater to client's & don't need the money, so I'm thinking of doing a Lifan 98 cc ohv with the 3 D clutch on a loop frame, but I've a years worth of projects started already.
I'm hoping health & weather will both allow you the opportunity to get the tri-chair rolling in time for Summer camp with Silver bear wahoo, Rick C.

It's the mount for the clutch cable where it enters the clutch that is causing the problem at the moment. I welded the mount for the tri car attachment on the bottom bracket and now it's in the way of mounting the mount on it. The chain interferes with the mount as well now that I have to place it upright and not on an angle.
Just one of those things that as the build evolved past work in now in the way and can't be changed so I have to adapt.
All the right sized metal I have is now used up and it's off tomorrow for more. I don't want to weld it on so it's time to tap dance my way out of it.
Good weather is here for a few days then a couple of days of rain and then it is supposed to get warmer and sunny. Been in the mid 50's and sunny and the daffodils are out as well as the early flowering shrubs. Springs here and now it's time to get going again. Not much spring left in the old boy but the hope is still there.
I can imagine that you don't need another career. He will appreciate it more if he does it himself with assistance from you and if he can't find the time why burn up yours.
Was in the van today getting it cleaned up and I can't wait to hit the road this summer.

Good report Steve Spring is here also but lows in the 20 degree range are trouble for our fruit trees trying to get an early start as usual. What does one expect of a fruit? They're not very smart!
I also have a master plan in my head on all builds that is constantly being altered & as a result I too buck up against prior work which interferes with the current mental masterpiece. I tell God my plans and he must get a laugh out of them.

The beauty of this one is that the whole front end turns on a center pivot. Older small cc bike with a trashed front end and a cosmetic rework to appear old and it would be a fun ride.

Yeah Steve I'm digging on the center pivot steering design & you're correct on donor parts 'cause I don't see the need to make a road warrior out of a delivery design transport. Putt putt to destination & repeat...simple mission statement especially for Old guys. Rick C.
This things got electric sled, hybred... written all over it as well. Not literally of course.
An excellent spring day with sun shine and mid 50's so into the garage we went. We being my great hopes and best intentions and I. As always the usual creative staring and wonder if I did this will it work.
Have to rebuild the piece that holds the clutch in place at one point so that when you pull the clutch lever the throw out bearing doesn't rotate and not push the clutch plates apart.
I'm using a modified 3D clutch . 3D is the maker. Interference problems with where I made the anchor point on the bottom bracket for the tri car attachment. Then there were problems with the the mount I made using part of the 3D mounting system and the chain to the rear wheel.
To solve it all I cut two pieces of tubing that slid over the 2-1/4" muffler clamp I'm using to clamp everything to the bottom bracket. Then I cut a piece of 1/8" thick strap steel using a hole saw so it had a 1/2 moon in it to fit the underside of the bottom bracket.
Yes, there are photos.
I welded the 1/8" steel to the insides of the steel tubing while they were on the clamp to keep everything straight. I slid it off the clamp when I was finished and re drilled the tubing out to clear up any distortion from the welding so the clamp slid freely on the threaded part of the clamp.
Son of a gun it worked. Tighten the nuts, the bottom of the clamp clears everything and centers in the middle of the bottom bracket.
I heard Angels singing.

I agree, Rick. Not going anywhere. I like the idea of the 3D clutch on a Lifan 98cc engine. Nice smooth power available but not a rocket ship. Would be ideal for a delivery style bike where there is no need for speed.

For a town bike in general & I'm not talking metro traffic, just the small town 20 to 35 mph. Geared right with the usable rpm of the 3 D & even governed it would produce sufficient rpm...compared to the common centrifugal. I've already got the 3 D clutch so a output shaft bushing and the Lifan will give me the basics. The little vertical cylinder looks really sweet with the cowl, pull start, fan and etc. crap are removed & add exhaust & intake manifold with a small Mikuni and it would look killer. I'd really like a small displacement/hp, light weight 4 stroke rather than the larger 212 for the next project...whatever it is. Just a putt putt. Rick C.
