I suppose You're right haha. Somehow that escaped my mind.

I suppose with a centrifugal set up it won't be an extreme difficulty to make it go.

What size sprockets are usually used with a jack shaft?

Just picked up the same engine.
Came in a mini chopper that was drop'd by the shop.
I will be grafting it into a Specialized Hard rock.

Boxcar, That's AWESOME! I love the availability of parts for them!

I have some updates coming soon, I'm making headway! I can't wait to see your build!

As you can see, I finally broke off the chunk of JB Weld. The person who had it before stuck a piece of aluminum can there and globbed it on there. Not sure why, it is just a vent port. The only reason anything would come out of that is if the head gasket was blown (Not sure it was though from the looks of it).





As for the cylinder, I wanted to try something that was new to me. This WD-40 rust soak blew me away!

Good news! I have decided on the color scheme for my engine (It's a surprise) And while I wait for an opportunity to paint, I decided to start a template for a gas tank!

I've never tried to do so before, but the first try came out alright for 20 minutes and some cardboard.

ALRIGHT..... Forget about those pictures. I came up with a much better mockup.


I spend some more time with a nice clean sheet of cardboard and measured a bit more carefully, and I came up with the design I wanted.

I am going to try to cut it out with most of the panels attached to minimize the amount of welding I need to do. (I will borrow a friend's welder.)

Don't know if there are any applicable ideas here but heres a link to a clone build. This was converted to a single speed by juggling gears in the damaged trans. The key feature is the belt primary drive. MUCH smoother than the double chain drive on the first similar bike I built. The advantage to these little engines is the rpms they will rev to. In excess of 9k, making a single speed feasible. Even with a ratio low enough to pull from stop the top speed is right around 40 if wound to the max. I really like that idea! I may just go with a belt. I wouldn't mind having a bit of sound deadened.

Also, I was wondering: Would it be plausible to weld the initial drive pulley on the engine to the existing sprocket? What pulley did you use on the engine?



I have gotten some suggestions to put a back slanted front to my tank (to compliment the rake angle) And I reluctantly decided to give it a shot.
I am not so impressed with the outcome, but I enjoyed seeing my design change in front of me, knowing the final choice is mine : )

Okay... I am ultimately happy with the 4th and final design.

It is the same concept of 'origami' as the second, with slightly different dimensions.

I also decided to give the bike a lower look, so I brought the stem down as far as I could go, so the angle I needed to mesh with is closer to what I wanted the front of the tank.

I decided I would give it a shot with some metal.... I am glad I didn't buy the 18GA, I just used the 22 I had laying around. For just my hands, pliers, and vice grips I was able to get the general idea started!
