Zoron,

Much better, Maybe turn it into my swapmeat buggy? But i will stick to the Hertel or the Daimler. Just don't know what to run for wheels yet. Some say to run 700's but just don't know if they would be strong enough?
Thanks Curt

Curt,
I am not sure if they are anything stronger than regular MTB wheels of 28"? As I know, that is just different tire on the same wheels, but with that dimension. Probably the strongest of bicycle's wheels should be those for cross-bicycles for races down mountains. But, they should be too expensive?
In Belgrade, I could buy relatively cheap TOMOS moped wheels of 18", but they are too heavy vor velocar with pedalling as the main powwer...
Tomorrow, some phtoos with DIY wheels... Now, bicycle with 36" wheels! probably to weak?

What i am thinking is Husky has 26" steel with 11 gage spocks. Prolly br the stongest and not to bad in price, and can get with disk break if needed. When i get a little time i will go to a bike shop and look at some of the new stuff and then i can get a better idea............Curt

I think you need the widest spacing for the spokes at the hub, and the smallest rim you can reasonably use to reduce the side loadings. We've all seen collapsed wheels, and they never seem to do it conveniently.

Yes that has been my fear of the spoke wheels on 4 wheeled volo car. Even with slow speed one sharp turn and hit uneven ground at the same time would not be good. Just as some of the 3 wheel trikes have a wider hub in them, i could build them like Silverbear is doing on his tri-car................Curt

Anne,
I'd like that one, too, and would like to order it with the cedar strip body as a three wheeler with a bit more of a boat tail over the single rear wheel. When can I expect delivery?

Seriously, that is a wonderful design.

Annie & Silver,
Could that be amphibious and with flexible wing of some hang-glider, or parchute glider? To conquere land, water and air? No need to go underwater? Or, just sometimes...

(magnificent men and women in thier wonderful machines?)

...generally: wonderful design and construction, but too modern for my taste!
But, it has nice, big, norrow wheels! Would like to have them for my own creation... (some grill would be cute on it!)

As many of us are interested in stronger wheels, cheap as possible, I opened special thread for that under name "WHEELS for velocars, velomobiles and other multi-wheelers" in our sub-forum "Motorized Tandems, Trikes and Recumbent Bicycles". Maybe we could gathered there interesting ideas, without strangling too much this one...

Hello Curt,
If you thought on antic quadricycle shown on attached photos - you made excellent choice! It is cute (for me) and one of the simplest veteran automobiles. Nice tradition of European light automobiles, constructed in technique developed by bicycle's manufacturers. This one is famous, too: designed by Wilhelm Maybach for industrialist Gottliebe Daimler.
Such construction could be replicate using bicycles frames, as I should do (maybe) having two MTB now connected in pedal-powered quadricycle. Only, couldn't be sure if such high-seats position should be good for pedaling of us two (having small engine as assistance)?...

Just noticed how wide the hube's are on this car. As Lud said wide and stable........Curt

Hello There,
Who needs gasoline engines, electric-motors, or pedals – when we have gravity?
(legend said that cycle-cars were developed in Spain, before The Great War: competitors in gravity races put small engines on their cars to drive them up hill, instead walking and pulling them; later used to drive them from home to hill and back, and later to drive them around... could be inspiration for velocars?)

Ludwig,
Wonderful quadricycle, elegant and light - 32 kg (my simple and rude has 52 kg), but probably too expensive... I couldn't imagine what to add and not to spoil its look? Maybe windshild and light fabric top? I couldn't see what are springs for front and rear suspension?
Maybe - next time!

If I am younger OR single, I would think about combination of bicycle/velocar and camper! Some video-links:

Lots of fun at the 1959 Invalid Tricycle Association rally :)

I would so love to own one of those old tricycles as with my own mobility getting worse I really could do with one. I refuse to get anywhere near one of those awful plastic modern mobility scooters let alone drive one.
That faux Colombe you're building should put any brand of mobility scooter to shame. It will certainly be much cooler looking. I really look forward to seeing it run, if only by way of video. I'll settle for static pics if I must though. :)

Oh yes indeed Allen :D
If I get my daughter to help I'm sure that video will be possible as she understands about such things and I don't.

By way of getting some welding practice I'm going to assemble the delta trike idea I first came up with before I decided to go all the way and build a proper cyclecar. It's been hanging from the workshop roof beams for ages and it would be better to have it in a useful state than gathering cobwebs. The faux Colombe is going to need some very careful fabrication work as I put together its front drive and suspension so it would be better for me to make a lot of practice sparks on something that doesn't matter too much first before I get serious.
