Steve, that engine will look great leaned back against the seat post. I'll have it out of the blower this evening (kind of a night owl), get her running then disassemble it so the flywheel and castings can be removed. Will post pics here as it progresses. Rick
I for one will be following what you do closely. I'm not too sure what I will do with my Jacobsen. Even stock it looks good for a 1940's or 50's build, but of course taking it down as you are will take it back to a much earlier look, more appropriate for an early Indian. Thanks ahead of time for sharing.

Steve, I took the carb off sprayed it with cleaner and put 70 lbs of air thru it,put it back on ,closed the choke, hit the button and IT LIVES!! The carb will need rebuilt ( must have choke closed to start).I left my camera cord at the mother-n-laws so, Ill post pics when I go get it back. BTW this engine only weighs 12 lbs. with the tank, brackets, starter, partial exhaust and pulley, I'm thinking it'll be under 7 lbs. when finished.

Just wait till you guys see what Im doing with a couple of these jacobsens. A 286cc electric start V-twin, sorta? I'm making a fake crankcase that will simulate the early 45* Twin, that 2 of these will bolt into. It'll have the jackshaft in the rear of the case so I wont need one on the frame. I'll be doing one for the jacobsen's and one for the 98cc tecumseh's. Making a set of cases to use five, 98cc tecumseh's. It's going to look like a 5 cylinder radial aircraft engine, 15hp and 490cc's, yup, to be used in a bike build.

My original thought was to put it on my 1950 Schwinn straight bar "American Flyer" which is currently running a 99 cc Predator with a Qmatic tranny. since it has to push a sidecar I figured the extra horsepower would be a plus and it looks to me like I could drill new holes in the Qmatic back plate and mount it directly to the Jacobsen. If I do this then I'll leave the engine stock with the pull start which is on it and it will look 1950ish and more appropriate than the Predator engine.

On the other hand... if it turns out that Tinsmith has no plans for a 51 Schwinn cantilever frame I gave him a year ago and for which I still have an in frame copper gas tank we made, then I might make a whole new build for the Jacobsen and do a belt driven rear wheel like on the Whizzers. With the last Suzuki K-10 front fork I have and some extra fat tires it would make a wicked ride, especially with the engine pared down as you are doing. Copper chain guards, big boy headlight... oh yeah, this is the stuff BWNGUJO dreams are made of. (BWNGUJO = boys who never grew up-just old)

Tinsmith has no plans for anything. I still have to rebuild my first chopper and get it back on the road. I think there are 3 or 4 frames up in top of the barn with no immediate plans for them so let me know and have at it.

We'll see come spring what each of us has in the works and go from there. Keep in mind the extra long set of Suzuki forks I have for you for your chopper and I have that Suzuki gas tank if you want it.

What you're proposing with two Jacobsens pulling together is intriguing. And five Tecumseh's? I can't imagine. That's a lot of power!

Looking forward to seeing the Jacobson evolve. I think two of them as a V twin is brilliant and will be a fun build. It could be dressed up with push rods and any number of things to make it look even older.

A 5 cylinder would be too wild for words.

Steve, this clutch what chain size, how many teeth? hey, weren't those belt drive? could do a belt drive clutch modified for pedal start. Let me know, Rick

Indian was one of the few that never used belts on their motorcycles. Only chains.
I have 41 chain and the rear sprocket will be a 70 tooth one. This has worked for Silverbear and since the bikes are about the same weight I'm going to try that tooth count.
Silverbear has his on the bike with the sidecar. I don't know if the Jacobson is going to change things being a 2 stroke or not. I'm usng a Manic Mechanic adapter if that helps.

Let me know if I can add anything else.

Cool, how's a 10 tooth clutch sound? SB is moving his with a 99cc predator the Jacobsen will have no issues. Stock the jacobsen makes bout 50% more hp and will rev higher.

Oh, I cleaned the carbon out of the engine in the pennysworth, rebuilt the carb,cleaned the plug and got 4.8 hp@4500rpm using 90 octane w/synthetic oil @ a 50:1 mix. The power curve was still climbing. Ungoverned these engines will make 6hp+ easily. Add a pipe and MC carby. 7hp is realistic in a 7lb package Woohoo! More then twice the hp of the 99cc preddy engine. I'll stamp it 49cc or 3ci which ever ya want

That will work perfectly. Didn't realize that the Jacobson put out that kind of power. The motor seems to me to be one of those hidden jems that most people either don't know about or discount as being unusable.
Silverbears Predator moves along at a pretty good clip and I was always impressed with it so the tricar will be a rocketship. Just hope it handles like one or the old boy will be doing Mr. Toads Wild Ride once again. Over the hill and through the dale and into the woods he goes. :)

I think 49cc would work. When your close to 70 years old the cops tend to leave Gramp's alone if he doesn't make waves for them. Of course my usual shocked and befuddled look helps to no end.

I think the hp rating on these engines were mathmatically calculated (flawed)or pehaps measured with the snoblower exhuast installed. Either way their rating and my dyno are telling 2 different stories. In the words of my big sister " careful bubby that things dangerous and you're nuts"

My old Dad, God bless him, used to say that my friends and I had 8 cylinder cars and a 4 cylinder brain. I also heard the odd "That kids nuts" and the occasional "That kids dangerous" comment over the years of my youth.

I like your sisters comment the best though.

The H*ll of it is that now we are paying the price as we age or as I prefer to look at it, my body is now cashing the cheques that I wrote at 20..
