Until the clutch disengages the disk is still being powered by the engine and braking is not what it would be if the disk was wheel mounted.
I like the idea but would like it a lot more if the clutch could be fully disengaged when the brake is applied.
Like I said, I could be missing something with this installation
You are missing it. When you chop the throttle the engine is doing some braking until the clutch dis-engages. So weher the brake is on the wheel or the jackshaft, dont matter, still works like a brake.
Actualy the same brake on the jackshaft will be more effective than wheel mounted brake because of the torque multiplication of the ratios involved.
