Add in the ones on drugs, the ones texting, the ones who are pretty much absent all the time and then the ones who are all of the above.

Not always, but most of the time I pull a kiddie trailer behind me in part for the wonder dog, Aaniimoosh, but also because it makes me a lot more visible. I also remove the plastic flag and replace it with an American flag. It does help quite a bit.

Wow, maybe you should get one of these for Aanlimoosh!!

I never ride without a lid unless I am test riding in an alley behind my house. I have a dirtbike helmet, no visor but it still protects my face. Its orange so you cant miss me. My face is too pretty to get skid rash, lol j/k.

I used to be a 'sometimes' helmet user. Just a quick 3 mile jaunt around the neighborhood, a quick run to the library or store and I'd wear a baseball cap. Now, after seeing what some of my favorite and most respected members have said I'll grab a bucket and wear it before I ride. I have a bicycle helmet and two motorcycle lids. There's absolutely no reason to not grab one of them before I roll out of the driveway. Thanks guys.

Yes, thanks guys. Really, since I started this thread and after reading all the posts you guys put up, I've been getting so uncomfortable riding without a helmet on. I'm gonna start hanging my helmet on my handlebars so I can't forget it. Are there any other converts that are with me on this one?

I've got a story about that. In Oregon there is a helmet law and all the anti helmet bikers went on a protesting parade. All was going well, they were riding about 8-10 miles without helmets when one guy fell down on his bike, hit his head on the ground and died on the spot. After the doc did the autopsy on him he said, if he would've worn a helmet he wouldn't even gotten a concussion.

Well, I agree with waist about laws forcing you to wear a helmet 'sucking', if I could get hassled and slapped with a hefty fine for not wearing a helmet for a quick up and down test run on my residential street testing a bike simply because a cop could I'd be pissed, but I don't wear one because I have to ;-}

I know I sound like a Broken Record* about a good front blinking light being the ultimate safety weapon, my normal riding buddy Jason and I just seen it first hand once again on a beautiful bright afternoon last Friday on a ride.

Jason and I tend to ride WOT on the routine neighborhood parts runs we do, and we ride 40+MPH shifters.
Ya, it's a 'whos fastest today' kind of thing.

ANyway... we were hauling WOT ass downhill on a 30MPH road and a big pickup truck starting backing out of his driveway and it was almost magical... As he glanced our way for traffic he slammed on his brakes half way out of his driveway and waited for us to race by even though we were a good 200' away in single file when he looked.

How bright is bright enough for a daylight front flasher?
For me, when I can see the blinking refection on the reflective traffic signs ;-}

*Broken Record:
For those of you too young to have even owned and played vinyl music records, it was not uncommon for the needle or a scratch to mess up a grove in the record and cause it to skip back a track and replay a few seconds of the song playing over and over again.
Hence, it was a broken record relentlessly replaying that same thing.

I always wear a helmut I would be dead now in other wrecks ( motorcycle and bike jumping) if I didnt have one on during those wipe outs. Not wearing a helmut is foolish it does not take much to damage the brain. If you injure your head in a wreck badly you are better of dead most of the time.....

A friend died falling out of a pick up doing 10 mph. Another friend was permenantly disabled wrecking on a skateboard he lost most of his motor funtions and is in a wheel chair fed by a tube.

Wear a helmut people if you think it is uncool...get a cool one :)

Any "Top Gear" fans? It is a British high end car show. The main host is Jeremy Clarkson. He is constantly making fun of American cars and in the scene linked, is making fun of Americans and promptly crashes. But you can see in the video how lucky he was to be wearing a helmet. After his crash, he is next shown wearing even more safety equipment.

LOL, his co-host (Richard Hammond) is wearing a collender.

I can't get the link up but check out on youtube (Motorised bicycles & stretched Lada in Cuba Jeremy Clarkson's motorworld). Some cool builds going on in cuba, I thinks the blue bike at 1:10 is a whizzer and all the others are either chainsaws or fumigation pump motors.

If you have a $5 head,wear a $5 helmet. If your head is priceless, spend accordingly!
