It's surprising bicycles weren't in use sooner than they were. It seems the idea for a bicycle came to Giacomo Caprotti, a pupil of Leonardo da Vinci, around 1493.

And then there's that window at Stoke Poges church from around the 16th or 17th century that shows an angel riding something like a velocopede.

So, I'd say that, around mid 1800s, it was about time somebody actually built one. What took 'em so long? We coulda been motorizing these puppies for centuries by now :)

diceman2004, that picture set is soo wrong in sooo many ways!

I got a good laugh from the worker measuring the diameter of the flywheel shaft after the flywheels were assembled. That would have been done when the shaft was machined, long before assembly.

Woefully staged photos for the camera to shoot in the name of PR advertising.

A dog's nose is so sensitive that it can detect a teaspoon of sugar diluted in a million gallons of water.

They didn't say how the dog told them. :)
