I've had one just like it for about 3 years. I paid $50 at Harbor Freight. It's worked well for all my small part drilling. Well worth the price.

It looks a lot like the Craftsman I've got - so much so I almost think it's a clone... if it is, it's a sweet lil press that'd do ya well, perfect scale fer these MBs at about a third the cost.

Goat, the large top cover w/the lil peg on the side looks like it's the same as others of it's size - in which case it's prolly a five speed pulley & belt system under there *shrug*

I have that drill press got it a few years ago at that same $40 price. Been a great addition to my little shop at home and use it often.

You can see right behind my seat to the left of my tool box that only holds MB parts for building.

Does it have variable speed? If so what rpm's?

Like others said, it's a 5 speed.

Even though there's 5 speeds available I run mine on a middle or lower speed because it's not real powerful and it's easy to lock the drill bit up on high speed if you're drilling a big hole. But hey for $50 it still beats the heck out of drilling a crooked hole by hand lol.

I was thinking about some work with holes saws if it is not powerful enough for a 1 1/2 to 2 inch whole saw then I am a little discouraged.

It will (ifn it's as like mine as it looks), if yer doin' metal - then it's jus' a matter of usin' a touch of cutting fluid from time to time and keepin' the RPMs down as low as they'll go (normal for metal drilling).

Problem is, even at it's lowest speed it's a touch fast for metal working... but it does OK.

Any hole saw you use should go REAL slow.
The slower the better.
I just looked at what I use, and at the lowest setting it is 180 rpm and that is what speed I use for hole saws. Plus a spray bottle of water to cool the cutter.

I will prolly get one seeing its all I can afford gotta think about the size work I can get on the table.. I am going to use this with a fully adjustable table vise with up two a 4 inch hole saw on metal as a poor boy machinist on steel and aluminum. . No stranger to cutting oil here. I use it like its no object! Thanks for the input. The compact size of this thing really has my fancy!

I've got a Delta that's a notch above that one.......wouldn'nt be with out one. Just get a decent drill vice too go with it and you can do many things like drilling round bar stock and tubing safetly. Loves me drill press!

If your planning to drill many 4" holes I'd probably recommend getting a more powerful one.
