Not to go off what or where this is going but hit 6000 RPM today on a down hill run. The HF seemed to love it and nothing blew up. I have the week-end off so will continue my horrid abuse of this poor and seemingly innocent engine an' report.
(can you go to Headise for killing a clone engine?)

Carbs!!

I Seem To Have Trouble With All My Carbs, 2 & 4 Stroke. Sea Foam Seemed To Make Things Worse. If They Sit For A Period With Out Being Run, Getting To Be A Real Pain. Is The Alcohol In The Gas Causing Some Of Our Proplems??

On My Titan 4 Strokes I Turn The Carb Bowl So The Little Drain Jet Is Easy To Get At. I Like That, You Don`t Have To Remove The Drain Screw, Just Loosen It To Drain Carb. Sometimes I Have To Open Drain And Blow In Tank To Get Float Needle Unstuck And Fuel Flowing. I Will Try Find Good Fuel, If There Is Any!!. Comments Appreciated. Ron

Ron I use Sta-Bil in all my gas for generator, bike 2 and 4 stroke,weed eaters and tractor. Never have problems even after months sitting. When I worked for BellSouth I got a job as dlc tech and we had about 20 5 kw gensets and I was put in charge of upkeep. Most of them wouldn't crank because they were only used maybe every 5 or 6 months when we would have a storm and the power was out at the remote sites. when I finally got all of them running I used Sta-Bil in all the gas and never had anymore problems. The big boss issued orders that all gensets would have Sta=Bil from now on in Mississippi. It works. An easy way to clean out the carbs if you have an inline filter ic to fill the filter with B12 Chem Tool and crank it. 95% of the time this will clear it up. Also you can do a search online to find non-alcohol gas in your area, might have to go out of your way to get some but it is worth it. We have one station left here that has no alcohol. It is about 10 miles from my house on the south side of town but I get all my gas for small engines there and most of the time for my vehicles. Hope this helps.

6K again today and all seems well. Loven' this engine. Takes a lickin' and keeps on turning the rear wheel. (so far, snork. Gimme time)

howdy BroHSI. Was a long down hill an' hit 40 according to car behind me and 38 by GPS. (I have lost faith in the accuracy of GPS. Mine tells me I am doing just under 2 MPH when I am standing there and just turned it on)

The normal RPM is between 5,000 and 55K on a flat. Around 32 to 35 MPH. Great engine. Even reving that high, has a hum and not a scream.

My baby is sick! Noticed the top 2 or 3 cooling fins had become discolored and looked over heated. Tightened down the manifold/header/pipe before the pipe that bolts to the engine. Was slightly loose but not much. I was thinking just soot from exhaust. Being in a local heat wave I also put the cooling shroud back on. Was still running great.

starts great and sounds almost 2 good. Rides fine for about 10 to 20 mins then starts staling and will not restart until cool then stutters badly. I put a new larger tank on and with out a doubt have a vacuum problem but does this with the cap loose too. I am gonna swap it out for another engine and take my time to really learn. I am thinking it is the valves. I checked the plug. Light brown on the tips and black from threads to the start of the hook. Cleaned the carb and put in fresh gas. No broom, broom after warmed up.

Dan sorry to hear about your baby lol you said you were gonna beat her till she died to see what she was made of. Mine running fine seems like all problems cleared up no bog no float sticking good for today anyway. Got another one on rain ck at HF just came in gonna get another $89 - 20% about $75 out the door cant beat it Later Larry

I have used Sta-Bill for the last 15 years and it does work very well!
I also use a 1/2 oz. of Rislone in each gallon of gas. It helps in keeping the rings free and on 4 strokes keeps the valve stems lubricated as well..

That's awesome Larry. How do they stay in biz? Really glad to hear every thing cleared up for ya. Think I said this but the spare was cheaper with the 2 yr guarantee then with out.

I took the valve cover off and it looks brand new inside. There was a bit of oil. (Is that normal? I will read up on it but dunno) I am not gonna dig any deeper in yet as it is pristine, shiny clean. So I am thinking it is not the valves.

Dan,

You should have Never taken the cooling tin off the engine, it is there for a very good reason, to keep the cylinder and piston/rings cool! It probably galled the piston/cylinder wall.
Good thing you can take it back and get a new one.
I have 3 of these HF engines running on bikes I built for my kids and they are a tough liitle engine, especially for $75.00 apiece

That is part of it. Is a prototype and experiment. If your right, it served it's purpose and died an honorable and noble death that will serve us all well. Let us bow our heads.

Got me thinking though BJP, you could be right. But why would it run great until warmed up? I am asking here, if infact over heated to the point of real damage, wouldn't the effects be threw out the warming up cycle?

Really do appreciate your taking the time to share your thoughts and advise. Having 3 of em, bet you have a lot of work a rounds and tips.

Really is an awesome lil engine.


Forgot to mention, after hot shut down or stall, when it does fire back up, it stutters (power/no power/power/) but has brief periods of running smooth

Dan looks just like mine when I took her apart new. Could be rings but as well built as these engines are I kinda doubt it You know how fussy they are though Like an old xooo maybe she will come around try compression test that should tell story and easy. bjpru you sure cant beat the price Later Larry

Take a compression test Cold and then Hot when it starts running like crap. Should tell you if indeed there is a piston/ring problem.
Just for kicks, try a new spark plug while you have it out!
