Anybody else built their own tank??? i am building a fiberglass one right now. My avitar shows a pic of the mold on the frame. I tried uploading more photos but for some reason it wont let me any suggestions?

I just ordered this tank from Clarke mfg.It's not cheap it holds 1.2 gallon of gas it's made of plastic
.It comes in about eight colors i ordered Black.It comes with a new petcock and some mounting hardwear will post some pics as soon as i get it.

I think im going to try to plug both ends of the extra large top tube of my micargi puma with 3m metal bonding adhesive. tap it for a filler and petcock. anyone tried this sort of thing yet? sucess? disaster?

I'm not sure that I'm 100% finished with this bike but here's a few shots of my old mountain bike re-done. I have enticed at least one of my neighbors to order a kit for his old bike. (He also has an in process restore job going on a Model A 2 door sedan going.) I think He's getting into the right mood!!!!!!!!!!!

both ends on the poma top tube have drain holes you would have to cut it completely off and plug and reweld i chose this route with my puma this is only one side the other will match

Very nice work. Those welds look great. Thanks for the info. When finished are you going to be using both sides for fuel? Im still thinking cutting off the top tube off and rewelding it up, might still be an option for a super clean look. Not sure how much fuel I can hold that way? I guess the question is the juice worth the squeeze? lol
I am in the process of building a fiberglass tank. Starting to spec it out now. Started with and old Kawasaki kz650 tank, which is similar in shape to but muchwider and slightly longer than i need. I decided to go a different route, I cut the tank in half and shelled out the bottom half, leaving a 2 inch lip on both halves for the bottom of the tank. Cleaned out the inside of the tank, and will start laying the glass in so i have 2 outer halves to start with. Then I can section/ chop them to the size i want. Ive also started designing the inner wall/ bottom half of the tank. Mind you, its going on a cantilever bike, so a slight bit of forethought has to go into this. Something i'm not familiar with, lol. If this method doesnt work, i'll probably do the styrofoam mock-up. But i had the tank and was about to scrap it and said "what the ****" I'll post pics as i get a little deeper into it. -Keith

To figure out how many gallons it will hold do HxWxL and divide by 231, if the tank is tapered figure it with straight sides, do the math on the non tank area and subtract, it will get you close, with in 10 th's.
Is it possible, or wise to mold a steel filler neck into the fiberglass? I have a neck which will appropriate a flip-top gas cap, but not sure how the fiberglass will mate with the steel. Any suggestions?
It mates with the steel bodies of cars and trucks. I don't see why not. I recall BarelyAWake talking about some types of fiberglass resins being more appropriate for gas tanks than others. He used to do glass work and seems to know about it. You might PM him.

Yeah, good idea- i will do that. I think I will scrap the idea of trying to mold to the inside of a steel tank. chopping and sectioning fiberglass is not a comfortable task. I would like to work with the fiberglass as little as possible. I don't really like the itchy-owies after working with that stuff.
make your mold out of styrofoam and when it cures pour acetone in it and melt out the mold i've seen it done for speaker enclosures idk about a gas tank
