Hey all, I've been on the quest for an alternate 50cc 4-stroke engine complete w/electric start & internal gearbox for my next project and wouldn't ya know it - Crazyhorse is already all over it lol (no Red, I'm not thinkin' a choppa heh).

build thread: http://motorbicycling.com/f40/xl-chopper-4-stroke-pit-dirtbike-18970.html
engine: Loncin Engine - 110cc Dirt Bike - $139 SPECIAL 70cc Engine Complete - Full Auto - No Reverse - $139.00 - HighRpmRacer.com

Still, finding just the right engine for your needs can be a bit of a challenge - while I've not found a vertical 50cc 4-stroke, I figured I'd post the list of what I've found with prices & distributors (although I dunno if they're trustworthy as I've not done business w/them yet ofc). So - if ya know of any 50cc 4-stroke engines w/internal gearboxes & electric/kickstart (horizontal, vertical, auto or otherwise) please do add to this list! :D Here's a link to Lifan - although they don't sell direct, it's a good place to get engine model numbers to search for.

^ I'd call to confirm :)

...and thanks to Crazyhorse - we've now a list of links for examples of successful builds using this engine type: http://motorbicycling.com/f40/builds-fyi-clone-honda-4stroke-atv-25194.html Thanks man!

Re: Alternate 4-stroke engine list

"My next project", huh! So, is this a sneak preview of what's coming next winter? Got the bike yet? Come on, you can tell me. I won't tell anybody else. Trust me! It's a cruiser, right? Vintage, of course. Another Rolls? Come on, man, tell!
That Lifan engine is sweet. This will be a good resource thread.

Ah,
Well, that clears that up. So it's a definite maybe. Whatever it is, I'm sure it will be interesting and a lot of thought will go in to it. I guess I can wait if you can...

Re: Alternate 4-stroke engine list

BarelyAwake, awesome idea for adding an alternative 4-stroke thread.

Guess will have to start adding info as people request such as what one needs when they purchase this style engine, ie wiring harness's, carbs, 12volt regulator, cdi relay, ignition coil, etc etc....

Maybe some of our sponsors will add this type of engine to their own inventory, for us interested forum members to purchase from them.

Kudo's to you BarelyAwake, for making our forum a lil better everyday!

Peace Crazy Horse.

Re: Alternate 4-stroke engine list

I don't want to mess with centrifugal force clutches any more right now. Do not know much about any of these. Hoping that's not involved on any of these?

Another great plus is not to be messing with trying to cram a tuned pipe somwherelaff

I like it I like it a whole lot, Helmutt aka ( Phoenix Motor Bikes), just a thought the top two most popular manufacturers are Lifan & Loncin for these Chinese Cloned Honda Mini Trail Bike 4-stroke Engines.

If you guys remember the Honda Dream 50cc had a Vertical 4-stroke 50cc!

Here's a pic maybe this would look nicer and be an easier fit to the Phoenix Motor Bike Chassis:

Remember Honda did a brief run of these Dream 50's in 2004, they were built for off road use ie racing here's a pic:

For those of you who don't know much about these 4-stroke Chinese Cloned Honda Horizontal & Vertical
50cc Engines.

It all started in 1960 as a Honda Super Cub, which then evolved or gave birth to the
Honda CT70, Honda Trail 90, Honda Mini Trail 50 and on and on here's couple of pic's of the Honda Mini Trail 50 & Honda CT70 sometimes referred to today as a Honda-DAX, Honda Pitbike, Honda Monkey ZB Bike, Honda Gorolla Bike, what kinda nickname is that for a Mini Bike, well because of the way a rider Looks while riding this style bike and the name stuck.

Helmutt right now these Loncin 4-stroke 50/70cc engines are on sale for $139.00
from High RPM Racer.Com, this does not include your carburetor, ignition coil, wiring harness, cdi relay, 12Volt Regulator/Rectifier, or handlebar switch's.

Just my opinion Helmutt I think the Honda 4-stroke Vertical Engine 50cc just like engine used on the Honda Dream 50 Cafe Racer, will look nicer and be an easier modification to the Phoenix Motor Bike Chassis.

Peace Crazy Horse.

Re: Alternate 4-stroke engine list

Thanks Crazy Horse - as a quick FYI tho it seems the Lifans that tboltusa.com sells include: "14 tooth counter shaft drive sprocket, side cover, carburetor, intake tube, shift lever, kick start lever, CDI unit, rectifier, spacer, gasket, and hardware" etc.

I'm not 100% sure that's true for all their engines & I dunno the rep of that company, but it seems that when all is done and said the prices may work out about the same... sorta (depends on carb n'stuff) - unless you wanna upgrade anyways ;)

BarelyAWake, from my experience TBolt USA: Pit Bikes, Engines, Parts, Pitster Pro, SSR, Honda CRF50 is an outstanding company especially when it come's to performance engines.

I'll probably end up spending an additional $200 or more to complete my $139.00 Loncin Engine Buildouts for my OCC-Chopper & XYZ Bikes XL-Chopper.

Peace Crazy Horse.

Re: Alternate 4-stroke engine list

Nice find RusticoRay, that is:

The Honda PC50 is a moped introduced in May 1969 that is stylistically similar to Honda's popular Super Cub line, with a step-through pressed-steel frame, a gas tank under the saddle, a chain cover, and sometimes equipped with a forward leg guard.

A distinctive feature of the PC50 is the use of a four-stroke engine, when almost all pedal-equipped mopeds use simpler two-stokes. Honda's early development of 50 cc four-strokes was a result of Soichiro Honda's dislike of the sharp noise of two-strokes.

Honda PC50 Manufacturer Honda Motor Company
Also called "Little Honda PC50"
Production 1969 -1971
Predecessor P50
Successor PF50
Engine 49 cc air-cooled four-stroke
Top speed 50 km/h
Power 1.8 hp @ 5,700 rpm
Torque 0.29 kg-m @ 3,500 rpm
Tires 2.00-19
Dimensions L 1.755 m
W .600 m
H 1.030 m
Seat height .780 m
Weight 50 kg
Fuel capacity 3.0 l
Fuel consumption 90 km/l @ 25 km/h
Turning radius 1.300 m

Did you restore it or you bought it restored?
