You might have to reduce your spark plug gap to run the light off the white wire. When I was running my HT I used a 6v light and LED tail light running off the white wire. I had to start with the light turned off, then turn on the light. Before I narrowed the gap, it would cut out below a certain RPM or stall. Didn't seem to make any difference to how it ran, though, and once in a while it would start (warm) with the light switched on, if I rolled it down a hill or kept pedaling.

(abbreviated quote)
Can't get generator to work yet either and running new headlight off white wire is a total bust. Engine refuses to start with light hooked up. . \m/

I'm getting the itch to ride down to the Dubliner. It's pulling on me now. I think I can get down there about 4:15. Maybe they'll be a hoard of motor bicycles there today LOL.

Man this bar on Sunday afternoon is tits up. I'm really liking this place. One thing that's way different at the Dubliner than Stroker's, or any other place for that matter, is all the cute girls that ride their scooters, and motorcycles there that like to stand in the parking lot, and talk about their bikes with a drink in their hand. 2 girls without bikes ask me a lot of questions about my MB. A really cute babe rode up on a little tiny Sprint scooter and parked next to the Atomic BB. She told me she can't pedal a bicycle. I could tell why by looking. Because her legs came up to here, dauymn. Another girl rode up on a Yammadog 650 Special. She said she knew how to work on it, and had been riding for years. She was probably 21 years old. It's so easy for me to talk to the girls there, because they can tell I'm old and married, and not a threat to them.

As I've mentioned before, this bar is known for unusual bikes. How do you like this one?

Anyway I ended up staying a lot longer that I planned. Time flys when you're having fun you know. I had to ride the 15 miles home in the dark.

Biknut,

Cool bike, I love it!. Is that PeeWee Herman's? Or is his still in the basement of the Alamo . Anyway, I really do like that retro Schwinn look. What do you think of this 1998 Schwinn Cruiser SS? Maybe add a tank with a horn or a springer front fork.....?

So, I wonder if the bike at the Dubliner an old bicycle or new one? Looks like it has painted alloy rims, instead of steel like an older one would have. It also has an interesting front generator mount. Not sure how well that would hold up on a springer.

Got your note late yesterday, as it was we ended up having 3 breakfast's on Sunday and finally watching Pro Bowl yesterday evening instead of being out, but sounds like there was quite a bit of action on your end!

I have spent the weekend looking at on-line bicycle options and ended up away from the computer and at Wally World on Montfort Sat. looking at bikes in person. Just could not get into them, so I followed up on a CL ad.

Oddly enough, ended up buying a nearly brand new red/black 1998 Schwinn Cruiser SS. Come to think of it, it is the one pictured above. It still has the protective plastic on the front badge and a paper tag on the rear dropout with the Schwinn assembly line build number. The tires are NEW original 15 year old Schwinn Classic WW's! Maybe now I DO need to add a tank with a horn and springer front fork on my bike! So you see the problem now is deciding how to proceed.

Take care, I'll keep you posted.

OldHarley,

That looks like a very good bicycle to motorize. I knew it wouldn't take you long to find one, because I was pretty sure I got you infected after my visit the other day LOL.

As far as the Schwinn I saw at Dubliner, I'm pretty sure it was a late 50s model. It looked mostly original to me except the seat.

Let me know how I can help you when you get started.

Woooooo hoooooo - finally met another MBer locally. Was cruizing on my bike through town and a guy at brookshire bros waved me down. Said he had the same engine as mine with no mods. He noticed I was running different head and carb. Was also super interested in my hub adapter. I didn't get a chance to see his bike but I told him I'd be out that way later if he was down for riding \m/ super stoked

Cool, I'm hoping I can get together with some of the folks around the Dallas area for a ride once mine is finished.

I just have this feeling we'll be seeing more and more of us soon.

Higher gas prices, higher food prices, Obama care, higher witholding taxes, declining value of the dollar, all these things are heading toward the perfect storm.

I'm feeling like we need another Dallas ride soon, probably in March, or May. I hope others are feeling the same way. Come on guys, show some support.

There's a similar rally in galveston every year. One of these years ill make it with my bike \m/

On another note - rode my sexy cranbrook to the bbq cook off at salas park in New Caney. Not a bike event but there were a few lowrider trucks and an impala that was sweeeeet. Was great, I crept up on my bike and killed the motor and all the people hovering over the car and trucks almost immediatly migrated from the cars and trucks to my bike. Got the usual wows and that's awesomes, and pointed em all towards how to build one. Was great, and -bonus- got some free BBQ \m/

Good job, that's how we do it. Before this sport can become more popular people have to be exposed it. Some of those people will go home thinking that bike was neat, I'm going to make one.

No but I found a video on one running nice but not my style
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U0iHVsbkax0
Not really my style either, but what I like about it is, the owner of BikeBug lives in Texas, and has been making them for 15 years, he says, so he has a lot of experience motor bicycle riding in Texas. He must have been around long before this forum.

I think that's a good sign for us Texas motorized bicycle riders. The more legit motorized bicycle business's we have the less likely the state will be to pass laws to get us off the roads.

The good riding weather is coming soon. We need to start thinking about a get together. Who's interested?

Lets take a poll. What's your best day of the week for a ride?

Mine is Sunday. Next choice would be Saturday.

I cant wait to go riding soon. I'm currently trying to get it running again after the final rebuild. I'm having a difficult time thus far. although I haven't had much time the past month because of school.

Biknut:
The problem I am having is a quandary. It kicks over and starts but immediately bogs and dies. I've gone through and re soldiered the connections, I just acquired a copper core spark plug wire, rather than a automotive wire. I thought maybe the spark was not strong enough under compression. It seems to be giving out a much stronger spark now although I haven't tried it yet. again school lol. I'm almost thinking the clutch needs to be tightened more. its becoming quite maddening really. Ive adjusted the float level, cleaned the carb, blah blah blah. nothing is working thus far. just thought I would ask if you had any of the wall thoughts.
Thanks.
And yes it is becoming better weather, we need to organized a ride. So we can all show off our handy work. Im free on the weekends.

If it starts every time and then dies, it sounds fuel related. I assume you're using the choke?

When it first starts are you working the throttle to try to keep it running?

I used a bit of oil in the motor when I rebuilt it. Im thinking that it is just to much sitting in the bottom of the crankcase. Im going to dump and clean it all out on sunday and see where that gets me. Yes im using the choke and throttle but it still wont stay running.
