SoCal Race Event Sat June 18th at Willow Springs Raceway-2011

I figured out what to do, I am just going to bring a 50cc kit with me on the train and do one of the bikes I have out there and then see if I can get a ride to willow. Then sell The bike before I go home, Anyone intrested?.
How much are you going to sell the completed bike for?

There will be lots of motorcycle guys and Porsche owners
racing at the track that may want one for a pit bike.
Most people in CA use the 66 cc kits.

You shouldn't have any trouble getting a ride from LA.

I was PMing with a friend of mine, talking about the event, and he mentioned he thought it was going to be hot and miserable there. I looked up what I thought was Lancaster, CA (ended up being another town in the Mojave) and saw that every year since 1998, it was 100 degrees or hotter on June 18th! However, I made a mistake because I entered the wrong zip code! Looks like it is a little cooler by Willow Springs lol

I thought I'd post and share for everyone to see:

Almanac for Lancaster, CA (93536) on June 18th (Rosamond's history is unavailable)

2010 58/85 Min/Max
2009 65/96
2008 73/101
2007 60/95
2006 75/98
2005 53/75
2004 64/91
2003 71/96
2002 69/93
2001 72/100
2000 64/89
1999 60/93
1998 50/89

Record low was 50 in 1998. Record high was 104 in 1985. Average for the date claims 61/90.

If anyone wants to know more, such as wind and humidity, here is the source: History : Weather Underground

i'm more worried about the wind than the temperature. i've worked out there on towers in 50+ winds. not the most enjoyable thing at 200' up.

I hear ya there, Baird. Temps don't bother me anywhere near as much as the wind - motor or not, winds are usually a bicycle rider's enemy.

Well, unless they are behind you, that is :D

buba here
wanting to know if there is any shade at willow or bring your own???

thanks
Still have to get out to the track next week to check it out and take pics.
I understand that there is a canvas overhang with a PA system at the
Go Kart track but you should bring an EZ UP type canopy for your pit area.

There are spectator bleachers too. Might want to bring a big umbrella.

I am going to get an 8' x 8' canopy with 4 five gallon buckets that I
will fill with water to weight the legs down in case it gets windy.

The tent camping is on an asphalt lot so tents have to be weighted down
too as you can't use stakes. Would bring a tarp to put under the tent
or you can camp out of your vehicle.

check the law section if you want all the detail so we don't ruin this thread, but i'll give you the basics.

2hp, 30mph max speed, 149cc and under.

no one can tell what cc's and hp your bike has unless you tell them, and i've never been ticketed for speeding.

my bikes are CA legal, with registration and plates. it's a simple process.

the hardest part is finding someone to ship you a motor. that's covered by CARB (California Air Resource Board) and it's confusing, and scares dealers away.

Still looking for someone with a truck to take 3 bikes including yours
to the track at Willow Springs this Thursday from the north OC area.
You will get lots of go kart track riding time for free.

Need to get out there to take pics and check out the facilities
as well as pay the deposit to reserve the track for June 18th.
It's work for me with a bit of play thrown in.

Anyone who wants to race going to step up?

Still looking for an EMT
Flags for the race.
Graphic artist to make a logo and flyer.
More sponsors or suggestions for sponsors.

Only 25 days to go

Willow Springs Raceway has agreed to let all us motorized bike guys
ride on the Big Willow track to celebrate the first ever Motorized Bike
Race there.

Shortly after 5 pm we will be riding 4 laps on the 2.5 mile Big Willow
track. Would love to get over 100 motor bicycles make the 10 miles.
Might be some kind of record. lol

It is not a race but the fast bikes can stretch their legs just about
everywhere on the track.

Anyone have a radar gun they can bring? Would be cool to take down
some top speeds on the main straight away using the bikes number plates.

I updated the rider number list, paid is in bold, thank you!

Go Kart Track is in the red square
Big Willow is in the green rectangle.

Hey Guys,

Thanks BiMoPed for organizing a SoCal race!!!
I have been watching the DR for a while now and really got caught up by all the goings on.

I'm bringing my electric Cortina out to Willow Springs to RACE.
My friend Tim, experienced Willow Springs bike racer, will be in the saddle, while I cheer him on because I have no bike racing experience and old bones. Tim would like #30 if it's still available.
Let me know how to pay and anything else I need to show up.

Looking forward to meeting you all and having a great time.

Roy
