The engine kit I purchased, which I've ran on 2 bikes (Currently on my profile photo) It has the standard/older style fuel tank requiring the female style petcock. The original leaked and the seal became useless. I ordered another.

I apply thread tape to the tank to help with a better seal. When tightening the nut on the petcock to the tank, before I get it screwed on tight enough... slides off. Bam, fuel everywhere.

Can anyone send any tips or advice my way? I'd be more than grateful. My bike is transportation.

I have one tank with the female outside threads, I just replaced the petcock today because of a broken handle. I didn't have any problem with mine. I don't understand what you mean by "slides off".

Apply the tape clockwise on the male threads of the tank. Wrap it once around so you get tension on it, then continue wrapping it holding pressure on the tape. That should fix your slipping problem.
