Dax gp50 9hp wow !!

How about a 72T sprocket? Would that be enough gear reduction or would it be to much? Cause this engine has made want to get a piggy-bank again. And probably the best thing to do is make a frame around it for better mounting.

I think a 72T would be just about right. Knowing that 4000-5000 rpm is when the clutch begins to engage. For most 4 strokes, this is approaching red line at 5200rpm or so... , for this motor, it is just beginning to hook up. I have seen some setups that have 2:1 or even 3:1 reduction right after the motor to another sprocket and then to the back wheel. I am guessing that max torque for this engine will be around 6000rpm or so. Max hp around 10000-12000. I am guessing from experience racing 2 strokes. I can tell you. This is one hot motor !! It has to be one of the most powerful 50cc 2 stroke air cooled motors made that can run on pump gas. This is amazing for sure.

Hey Dax, I was wondering. what would be involved in adjusting the clutch, to get it to engage at about 3500-4000 rpm? I remember someone mentioning something about shims or washers inside the output shaft...

Peace, James

See the pic below.
That bolt you see in the pic goes right thru the middle of the clutch shoe.
There is 3 clutch shoes to the basket (i guess you'd call it) which is attached to the crank shaft via a taper setup.

This particular washer stack is as long as it can be without adding anything to the standard setup. As the centrifugal force builds up from the crank shaft it causes these washers to compress allowing the shoe to come out and touch the outer bell.
There is no springs in this setup just the bevelled washers, meaning the clutch is totally adjustable virtually in infinite ways....sort of

If I were to flip the washer on the far left around it would make the stack shorter meaning the shoe can touch the outer drum with less centrifugal force. If I were to flip the 2nd washer and leave the 1st washer then it is even less cent. force req.

The outer drum that is turned by the clutch shoes has a sprocket on it which drives another sprocket which is attached to a shaft that takes the power to other side of the motor being your the sprocket where your chain goes on..

James.
I've been messing with these types of motors for a while and if you engage the clutch at a low rpm, the motor will bogg and have a hard time getting into the power band.

Exactly what he said.
But when you find the right clutch setup you'll have yourself a weapon. Your modded ht ride will become a doorstop.

^^ Ha Ha, I am sure that would be the case! I do enjoy to an extent working, adjusting, and fiddling with my engine. But I find that i am having to turn wrenches, and work on this thing, just to keep everything running smooth. A little too often, just don't have the time to keep working on it.

I'm going to have to really look at my finances and see if this is doable. From what I have seen so far, I am liking the idea of this engine more and more...

Peace, James

With the peanut tank I think I'm getting roughly 50kilometres per tank if that..
In saying that they are hard miles!! Flogging the absolute *beep* out of it as im abit of an adrenaline junkie..:o

My tool bag has gone from carrying enough crap to just about rebuild my ht on the side of the rd (freakin heavy bag).. "just incase".. to a 6" shifter and a combination pocket knife.. nothing like her riding bare back so to speak. Also they start on the 1st kick just about everytime cold /hot, its very rare I'll have to go to the effort of kickin it twice

Seriously....................... WEAPON.:D

yup..
seems to be a good all rounder with plenty of speed up top aswell.
A 60 something might b ok too but depends what you want out of it.

I dont know if you can tell but I really like this motor. lol

Gotta be careful. I did $4500 of damage to a Toyota RAV4 with nothing but my bike and my face back in '09.

I was only going 20MPH, too. THAT bike was a weapon, and it was just a MTB with a 66CC and 34T.

Gotta avoid making higher powers mad, and it's hard when we're grinning so much :D

Dang man! Whadda ya got a titanium plate in yer forehead?
I am glad that you are still here!
Sorry to hear that you did a face plant into a vehicle, but that's a sky high value on the damage done! The RAV4's must be made out of tinfoil?

Just 3 plates and 33 screws in my face, missing 4 teeth. Would have been just another morning grabbing breakfast if not for that.

When these bikes hit something, they'll just crumple right up. Going over 25 in populated areas is folly, IMHO. Never ride against the flow, either.

That was my mistake.

Sounds like a little Chinese girl Kicked youre ass! LOL!

3 plates and 33 screws?? dam sounds horrible.

So i was able to get the pics off my phone...

this is my KTM clone engine bike and custom BoFab exhaust!...
