Picked up and oxy/acetylene torch from my dads place. New hoses and some gas and she should be good to go

Should I cut the kickstand frame off and the extra tabs on the back of the frame where the fender and chain guard attached?

Danny, kickstand might come in handy. You are building a boardie tribute.
Racers were the original choppers. If it don't make it go fast it goes. Chain guard and mount.
I covet your Dads torch.
Tom
Oops, chain guard mounts and kickstand frame gone. Oh well, it will be chopped

yea me too on the torch, gotta get that baby checked out and fired up

gonna order my chromoly soon. Actually found this on eBay too

guess the title of my thread doesn’t Hold true except for the BTR replica part ‍

Been reading up on welding chromoly. Seems TIG is what’s recommended. I’ve read it can be done with a flux core welder however. Is there a special wire I need for my welder? Was reading something about T1 with different classes like B1, B2, etc... but not being a welder I’m a little lost. Anyone know?

In the end it might be easier and quicker to bend it and get it ready to weld and have it done. The welding shop may be able to bend it for you if you have the angle marked out on a piece of cardboard so they can check that it's correct.

Steve.

Not sure I like this or not, but without stretching the frame it looks a little different. Still decent though.

My son restores Toyota FJ40 Land Cruisers for a living. Unfortunately for me he's in Vermont and I'm in British Columbia, Canada which for him is a good thing or I'd be a shop fixture.

Sold out. I saw this all over the internet when I was looking for parts a week ago. On a couple of things I was able to buy two of the three items that were left and this was in China.

Steve.

yea covid has really slowed down the economy and production.

not to mention prices. For someone still finishing up my home, I’ve seen a 4x8 piece of OSB go from $8 to $33:oops:

Been reading a lot more tonight on welding chromoly and it’s beginning to to seem like to me that I need a mig welder and some er80s-d2 wire for it.

or take it to a shop for welding

Does anyone have any more insight on this?

EDIT: I have so much to learn, I just read that I might be able to use my oxygen settling torch to braze and it would be just as strong. And apparently chromoly is a good candidate for brazing.

So much to lean lol

Ok so I redesigned a little bit, I like this frame layout better. Bars are spaced so I can use a 4” exhaust pipe for the gas tank.

I have 1”x.083” chromoly and the exhaust pipe in route. I have decided to braze instead of weld. I think I have a much better chance of success that way lol

Layback seat post and I can picture it
