Sounds a lot like Minnesota -4 F today and will clim to 28 they say. Had a 6" snow last week and some each day after, then cleared off last night and then it drops after clearing. In a couple of days it will hit +40 F and melt most snow. We usually got around 6 ft. of snow for the year but this year way down and wormer the usual. I have seen a lot of guys riding pedal bikes all winter. If I had one to test ride I would just put my snowmobile suit on and go...........Fun Fun..............Curt

Well did hit 43 F this day....and roads are drying up without snow and ice, at least where the sun can shine...... last year we got -8F this time, and approx 6-7 ft. of snow. This winter it has been hot.....from +20 to -4 F, lot of rainy days, and just 2 ft. w/snow! Did use a insulated suit earlyer, but belived this day wasnt needed......could have been much more comfortable to done it!! Got some complain about the exhaust....straight pipe w/pressed end wasnt lowering the db much in 14000rpm.......next to do must be some changes on the exhaust...

Mr Leaded, 43 degrees is to cold for my blood. Silverbear and I have ridden at that temperature and I can't keep my hands warm. Maybe it's my age but I prefer 50 degrees and above with the sun shining. If the sun is out it makes it much nicer. I have a similar exhaust and it's a bit loud, but none of the neighbors have said anything. Most of my riding is in the countryside and the cows and horses don't much care. Keep ridin'.

Well, Tinsmith...i agree about what you prefer......but somebody in this country thinks more about the icebears & reindeers than the people, so we have to adjust to survive...Ha,ha.
About exhaust, normal working accessories with chainsaws are also earprotection...never seen thats a standard equipment on a moped/motorbike......Its the pitch sound for shure who makes it rather noicy, but i got some smaller sounddamner from a moped i can use.
And keep riding you too, Tinsmith, use thicker gloves if needed!Ha,ha

Well, reworked engine... The crankhouse at the chainsaw engine did crack a couple of days ago! (not the best place to bolt it...)The magnesium housing aint strong..... But the last parts for the engine i bought from Germany is here, so a new driveline on the way!
Just mocked up on pics, needs a more bolting & some pedalarms and mount the carb to test.....
.wee.

I've been wondering about you... now that the snow and ice are long gone you've been busy riding. And now your toy is busted and you need a new motor. That's a sweetheart! What is it? Looks real good.

Not quite shure..... it was announced as an REX engine, supposedly early 60s...but after some checking seems to be a Peugeot SPX (Polini?Tomahawk?).. year is impossible to find out, they never did an understandable list on fabrication numbers. REX engines was mostly used on driving the front wheel, and yes its a little similar. Would believe from the mid 70s- to 80´. Engine have papers signed by German "traffic dept", thats buildyear -57, 49cc, registred by the engine number..... but it got a 81cc cylinder/head by measuring. In very good shape, some parts was bad/missing, but changed now (ignition,clutchdisc/pads). Found axle/pedalshaft/ drivepulley of an Tomahawk moped, and quite easy conversion... 2 shaftsupports to fit the original bicycle bearings to pedalshaft, and on! The drivepulley have an lock/unlock device for a chainsprocket in the back. kick pedals to start, gas to go! Got decompression valve in the head..if its a peugeot it would be approx 2.5hp as 49cc....what this have?? Dont know....but price was ok! Looks quite "fat" in the frame, but also a little oldstyled, so i could (together with the documentation) proclaim this is an old engine, who could have been on the market in the 50s, as i need,to get this legal used at the roads as a vintage vechile, with no licensing needed!!

...and silverbear, chainsaw clutch DONT keep up over time!! Since last post, i changed two of them.....they are to small, period! But some small trips have i done, with great fun. Also showed up on some local Bike meetings, and stole some prize........Yeah, i cutted the chainsaw engine up so it did look ok, but this didnt help for fastening.....The engines are critical about false surge, and this engine got parts out of the crank housing now, dumpster next!

Thanks, Tinsmith, you know, a "greasemonkey" as i, ain´t so easy to get rid of!
Got a lot of stuff on this spring, so the bike had to wait! Mounted the Eaton supercharger on my ol´50 Fleetline inline six.. a lot of test & try, building, etc. before it function as i hoped for! GREAT.... but suddenly a couple of days ago the waterpump break down, so i took the bike for my rides (as long as it function...) when the engine break, i found i got the parts to change the driveline for it, the cars waterpump has 1 week delivery...

Yep, life has gotten in the way of motorized bicycle fun. With Silverbear gone for the summer I don't take the time to "play" as much. He is a bad influence on me. Just got an old pickup truck that is going to require time and $$, but hopefully it will be rewarding.

Got a drawback... the chainsprocket at the engine driven freewheel/lock pulley is same as on the bicycle pedaling, but my engine driven rear wheel sprocket are another (as a moped)... well, another wheel sprocket and chain on the go!
Gonna be like this, when using whats on hand, and dont always buy new parts made for the use! ;-)

can a one-piece pedalcrank be cutted and welded together again, and hold up? Is it just forged steel? my old one-piece pedalcrank are quite nice, and i dont like the 3-piece newer wider aluthings as pedalarms! Planned to cut the old one in parts, weld on end parts to be bolted on the crankshafts..

The new engine is in and started, runs great! Used the pedalshaft/driveline of an Puch/Peugeot with drive chain to rear wheel. Believed the chain and sprocket from before could be used......Well, it did´nt! Suzuki sprocket with chain have another size of the rollers, even if pitch is spot on,chain pins got the right distance but it have to be smaller rollers on the chain to fit the sprocket on the drivepulley, of course!! 3/16 width, (#415) as old moped chains over here, so ordered up a new chain, and will go down to a 38T rear sprocket to fit the engine RPM, and gearing.Found a great site about the chains here:http://www.azusaeng.com/chain/mcyclchn.html
Found out of the engine too...its a AML (french made) with Peugeot 103, 70cc cylinder & piston and head. Bought some parts to a Peugeot (who had similar top) and the clutchparts needed some adjustment/changing to fit, ,wasn´t as the manual says....but ignition parts did fit, so its okay!
My pedalarms.....well, got a friend who was visiting Latvia, and there´s a lot of russian cycles yet in use, parts are cheap and look oldie, suits me fine!!! Bought!!

Thanks ,the "´bear"......Yeah, it looks great, fills out the space in the frame quite nice! Pedals yes! Alike peugeot 103 driveline. Centrifugal clutch with belt from engine to drive pulley (pedal pulley on right side) This drive pulley free wheel chainsprocket on back could be locked with a switch,so you can pedalstart the engine. Chain from the backside of drive pulley to rear wheel. Pedals gonna be the old original white block ones, with new russian pedalarms, bolted .
