My days of riding in the gutter are OVER. I will now claim the car lane permanently, so I will be riding at the speed of car traffic, in the middle of the lane, where I belong. It shouldn't eat up my range too much. LOL
When I'm riding 45 mph and up, my bike is eating about 1 ah per mile. Dropping down to 35 isn't much better, maybe about 1.5 ah per mile. 20 mph is about 2.5 ah per mile. All this depends on the wind and hills too. Wind is worse than hills. Stopping a lot eats more too so I run all the stop signs.
Also outside temperature makes a difference too. Since I started riding my bike in December it's only been really warm about 3 or 4 days. On those days I noticed a little better acceleration, so I might have gone a little farther if I could have controlled my happy hand a little better.
Most of my rides are about 40 miles. Since I only have 18 ah I can't afford to ride at traffic speed all the way. Usually my ride goes something like this, I ride away from the house at a snail pace. A lot of times I'll get 15 miles away and only used 3 ah. My record was 20 miles and about 3.9 ah used That takes bicycle speeds to do that, about 13 mph. By them I'm probably where I was heading so I loosen up a little and ride around at whatever speed I feel like till I've used a total of about 6 or 8 ah. By then it's usually getting late, and time to head home. With 10 or 12 ah left I blast all the way running 35 to 45 mph, and usually pull back into the garage with 1 or 2 ah left.
Someday I'll have enough ah to ride any speed I want the whole ride, but for now it's fun enough just to be able to blast all the home after riding all day.
All I really ask for is about 40 ah, but even 30 would be pretty good. I think with 55 ah you'll be very happy.
