n00b With new china motor stumped

Ok so I've been on the site searching for answers for about 2 hours now and I think I just need something a little bit more personalized. so please don't crucify me If the answer is on a couple of other posts already, chances are I've been to that post and couldn't really use the information due to lack of knowledge and experience or just sheer ignorance if you will.

well here it is, I was riding my bike and I think it was about the 130th Mile or so that I've been on it, since i built it a week ago its brand new. (China 2 stroke) and it after about 15 minutes of riding it it just stopped working so I thought maybe I had foamed the fuel in the carburetor or something like my oil mixture Was of so I stop for a couple minutes and put a little bit more oil in my gas And it started right up. it went for about another mile and died on me again when I got back home I found out it wasn't getting any spark. I've checked everything I could using the forums and still am at a loss. all the wires are connected correctly the magneto looks fine and like I stated earlier it's a brand new engine. I would greatly appreciate any help even though I know it's probably been covered on here before
 
I forgot to mention I don't have an ohms meter. Is there other ways of testing. I believe once i can test parts i will find answers. Sorry for being such a n00b Everyone :-||
 
Welcome aboard. Don't be shy about being a newb and asking questions. A forum should be 'alive'. It's not an encyclopedia.

Okay, you've checked your electrical connections. I still suspect that that's where your problem is, though. There are other possibilities. But this is the really common one.

So I'd go over your wiring once again. If that checks out, then it could be a spark plug, spark plug wire, CDI, magneto, and so on. Yes, it could be a fuel issue. But I'd still have a good look at spark first.

And I would recommend a multimeter. They're awfully cheap these days. And it'll save you from buying parts you only might need and waiting on them.

Give your electricals another go-over, won't you?

Then come on back and tell us the results. Someone'll spot the issue sooner or later.
 
The mag coil is a common problem, get a spare, and buy a cheap multimeter should be around 300 Ohms.
Start with a new plug though and try disconnecting the kill switch.
The Cdi rarely seems to give trouble but standard plug cap is a bit average.
Double check electrical connections, intermittent faults are usually just wiring.
 
Ignition problems, especially after you've ridden a few miles are the most common of problems. Take the advice offered above and recheck all connections. The kit supplied plug-in connectors are notorious for giving bad electrical connections. Cut them off and solder the splices betwen the blue and black wires.

That spark plug boot that came with your kit is also a common source of trouble. They should go in the trash with the box your engine came in. Replace it with a good automotive quality boot and a good spark plug.

Let us know what you find.

If all your connections, plug, and plug wire are good, pull the small sidecover and check for signs of water getting inside the cover. ANY water in with the coil can cause exactly this symptom.
Intermittent failure is often caused by the coil shorting out.
 
Im definitely getting gas, I will check my wiring again, maybe take off the plug in connectors and splice together The wires.ihave two spark plugs one that I've been Borrowing From my friend and using until the stock one made it which I just placed the stock one into the engine today and both were working fine. I doubt They both went bad when one wasnt even being used at the time Of failure and was working prior. the Boot is pretty funky though the brass fitting on the inside that goes over top of the spark plug comes out (But worked in this condition over 100 miles). and sorry for the typing mistakes it Literally took me 30 minutes to type this out on my stupid phone that doesn't want to work right

Everything was dry and looking good too, i cant solder but i can twist and tape. I really doubt it will help cuz the connections are pretty solid I have tried it without the killswitch Too with no luck

if that brass fitting comes out, then you've probably lost the little spring that is supposed to be under it inside the cap - won't work without that spring

as a temp fix till you can get a new cap, strip back the rubber of the spark plug wire to expose a little bit of the metal wire, then wrap it around top of plug and hold it there with a small nut

that should get you running again
 
And get a computer with a real keyboard.

But don't take me too seriously on that. I'm just being smarmy.

That spark plug boot is beginning to sound like the culprit here. Maybe that'll fix you up.

Wire me the $$$ Every month for internet and i have a "computer with a real keyboard" your two cents On that subject however is unimportant. if it all wasnt still under warranty i would fiddle with it but when i "beg, borrow, or buy" the meter i will just order a replacement For the faulty part. I'll be back on Monday with the information about what I've done

Most auto parts stores will sell one spark plug wire, just make sure it has wire in it . the wire will screw out of the Cdi box, some I have removed have had a small amount of glue around them but will come out.

This. If you've ever pulled that boot off your spark plug, chances are those 2 pieces fell out and no longer transmit the current. Go to the auto store and get a new plug wire.

my CD I is one solid piece there's no way to get it apart or screws of any kind
 
i've run into this problem several times, 90% of the time it's the magneto, some dont go bad right away, if you notice the running time between it cutting off getting shorter and shorter then its probably your magneto. you can also try upgrading your plug wire to an 8mm like an accel or mallory and get an ngk plug
 
The CDI doesn't come apart. The plug wire screws into it. Most new CDIs have the wire glued into the connector and you'll have to dig it out. Be careful because there is a metal threaded contact at the bottom of the post where the wire screws into it. Don't break it off.

Actually you don't need to replace the wire, just the spark plug boot. The wire that came with the kit is better than most you'll get at auto parts stores today because it has a metal conductor instead of the resistance wire parts store sell.
