Hey scotto can I ask which brand pillow blocks you're using? I'm going the same route with pillow blocks but wanted to know if there are alternatives before I drop almost 100 dollars for two at McMaster. Thanks
Sure, they're nothing special. I think I paid $18 a piece for them at Marshall's hardware (a specialty Ace Hardware store here in San Diego). Funny thing, after the first 80mi. ride I did breaking in the bike.....both zerc fittings went missing from the pillows laff

How does that happen? I think I spent more money on the huge stainless fasteners holding them on than the pillows themselves......overkill. I'll look and see what brand tomorrow if you like?

Other than the zerk fittings falling off if the rest of the unit (mount, bearings) are holding up then yes I would greatly appreciate a brand so I can find em online. I'm over budget but don't care anymore. Just having fun with the build. If a part works and its cheaper though, ill save money wherever I can. Thanks again

Ok then, here's what I got with a visual inspection tonite. They are cast iron housings painted black with 2 set screws and a zerk fitting for 5/8" shaft. On the top of cast block it looks like P11 in raised lettering. The rest I already described, hope this helps.

Just curious about the angle of the motor mount. I'm guessing that will put the cylinder in a more upright position rather than leaning rearward using a horizontal mount. Has anyone run one of the new Predators mounted almost vertical? It would seem that they were designed to be mounted horizontally. Does anyone know what effect, if any, mounting it vertically will do?

I did read in the owner's manual under Setup Precautions,

4. Set up and use only on a flat, level, well‑ventilated surface.

Any thoughts?
Yes....think outside the factory.....that made the box!

what is the purpose of the catch can? does it take the place of the breather tube? also I like that mount, im doing something similar with steel cuz I got a welder. I see everyone using those mounts for the 49cc hs kits and just imagine tubes cracking, blood, guts, ect... so im way over building mine

The bike looks great !

What size catch can did you use ? and were did you pick it up?

Thanks Bill
Why thank you Bill (^)

It's the small can that BMI Karting sells. I finally got around to hooking up the handlebar mounted kill switch.....(bout time), now I just have to mount the caliper for the jackshaft disc-brake set-up......lol. Here are some pics from today....

You're gonna like your new build!

Hi Scott

You are killing me with the pics of your bike.

Are you going to use the 4" rotor you made?
Have you used this set-up before if so how well does it work?
Just one more, is that a cut down Shimano RT-51 rotor?

Thanks again for the help Bill

hmm yes good point. the hot oily air cant be good for performance, either. how does the catch can work?
The hot/oily vapors from the crankcase are normally sucked back in through the intake (on old cars, there was just a hose that led under the engine where the oil would drop on the ground).

With a catch can between the crankcase vent and the intake, the vapor enters the catch can where the oil and water condense and are held in the can and the rest of the air goes into the intake. Some people also do not connect the catch can to the intake but just have a filter on the other outlet. Good catch cans have either a baffle or filter inside them to interrupt the flow of air to give the vapor something to condense onto. Not sure if these cans have something like that or are empty.

A lot of the cheaper automotive catch cans off eBay (I have one in my garage I have yet to modify) are empty. Empty catch cans still work, just not as well as the baffled/filtered ones. A common modification is to put steel or brass wool in them to act as a cheap baffle.

Yes I will be using the 4" rotor on the jack shaft and they are very powerful stoppers used in this application. It is a cut down Shimano SM-RT56-S rotor to be exact.....160mm.

Hope this helps.

The catch can is non-baffled and is vented with a filter under the seat.

Hi Scott,
Very nice build. Was wondering where you get the idler, the cheetah clutch and what's the final gear ratio on her? I"m having a hard time starting the bike from a dead stop as i vibrates violently even at 13.6 right now. I'm thinking it might be the clutch. It's like it's trying to engage than disengage than engage again multiple time before it's start. I think that's what's causing the the crazy vib.

Thanks. The idler is a turned down urethane skateboard wheel, the cheetah clutch can be had from any karting website and I'm running 12:1 final gear ratio ATM......smooth as silk on take off.

Yes, the clutch you're using sounds like the problem. The thing is you must adapt the output shaft size to accommodate the cheetahs 3/4" bore.

Send an email to AGK and to get a replacement clutch from them.. :) If that fixes it, then hopefully I won't have to get a new cheetah clutch.
thanks Scott.
