Snooping around the internet I found theses guys who are building street legal bikes similar to mine and selling them for around 7k. They claim the 18hp model will do 70mph. I thought you guys might be interested in checking them out.

I really enjoy the heck out of FUN things, and deth just seems like it might be the end of it, not to mention painful, achieving that goal!
I must be getting old. My own demise is probably near enough.

I dunno how it is there in PA, but here in kalifornia, there's a whole flock of rules and regs abt machinery on the public roads.
A built up transportation device requires compliance with current regs in order to be licensed. Meaning, it must be epa AND carb qualified, and have ALL the federal dot thingies like brakes and turn signals and I dunno whatever else they want!

The hotrod guys use a 'pink slip' vehicle registration certificate from an older automobile that does not have all the present statutes applicable to it.
...and they declare it is a 'modified' whatever the heck the title says.

My question, after all that, is, What do those guys do when they hand build a motorcycle?
It may be a replica, or tribute model, but it's still 'new construction'.

I mean, it's like... If my $300 chinagirl motorized bicycle gets impounded by the tax collector, there's a fairly good chance I'll survive the hit.
If I lost a $5k+ piece of equipment, THAT would be hard to recover from.

What are your thoughts on this?

I read more of the dialogue on the oldfield site...
They don't SHOW the dot required sig lights which come with the bikes because they are ugly! Can't say as I blame 'em!

I dunno what model briggs they are running which has a vertical cylinder.
AFAIK, all the Intek series have the leaning cylinder which looks stoopid on a motorbike and is probably not great for cooling... well, not as good as it could be if leaning forward.

I really got a lotta respect for those guys courage, building a mc for sale to the general public. Product liability is THE biggest thing in the business world, today.

...sold plans and kits for some very nice ultra-lite aircraft.
Rumor I heard was he closed his doors after some guy sued him when he FELL OFF his 'Sky-Cycle', a design Wayne had come out with.

Anyhow, the briggs powered mc seems like a gud idea as the price of fuel is climbing.
They probably got more speed than the old 45 solo I had way back when.
lol I'm SURE they would be faster than my Servicar!

Yes, we are in a select crowd of people that have these things because we made them ourselves. Selling a bike that goes that fast to the public is brave. There is a loophole though. Build it then remove the engine and ship separately. That way the customer bolts it in themselves changing the bike from "static art display piece" to "ridable bike". You can't prevent customers from making your art come alive and crashing, a purpose that it was never intended for, wink wink

RC, I didn't even realize that blog had tattoo stuff on it, I must have selective sight. I guess to each it their own when it come to how we present our selves to the world. tattoos are not my thing either, however all of my friends are covered head to toe and I have a friend who owns the best tattoo shop in Pittsburgh (In The Blood).

As far as the bike thing goes I will be doing the same thing as the hot rod guys. The bike will be registered in Ohio and they are very lenient on mc rules.

Thanks for that tidbit of info Cobrafreak, I am working on a plan to produce some form of street legal btr for the public and that info is vital. Maybe I will run a little shop out of my home. The bikes will be along the lines of a 1909 Merkel with a single cylinder. Something a lot less labor intensive than this v-twin build.

So we had some 'islanders' here and there. Some of them had tattoos.

Then the '2%'ers' and the biker scene hit and those fellows had some.

Back to topic, I was in sales for a number of years.
Gubment required background check, fingerprinting, and all that $#@! to get a license to sell used cars... Crazy!

After not too long, we determined the general public should be required to have a license before they came out of their homes! Really way out on a tangent kinda people out there, among us. All kinds!

To open your doors and sell to the general public is a scary thing to me!

I can't believe I'm the only to catch ahold of this. That engine is a Harbor Frieght who's crankcase has been modified into a twin cyclinder. I saw it done on a Video at You Tube to a Briggs & Straton. Look close, see the HF overhead valves? On their Web Site.

Im just being honest so don't flame me to hard.

This is a crazy sick build...I really like it when people FOCUS on the esthetics of there projects, i mean its the first thing we all see right? Could be the fastest, could be the best cornering, but if it doesn't LOOK right, its no good.

That being said...the gx200 bike, looked almost perfect...to me this bike is a step backwards (looks-wise). Its almost too big. Maybe its just the narrower wheels. And the motor, 600cc and only 20hp? Sh*t liquid cooled 50cc's are making 18hp. I mean yea its cool you got a v-twin in there...but jesus that motor weighs like 90lbs.

Its called the Law of diminishing returns...And i think that this bike is succumbing to it.

Dont get me wrong, im not trying to discourage you, or hate, or whatever. I am inspired by your work, so much that im sitting here thinking, Sh*t i want one of those! so i started thinking about it, really thinking. And this is the conclusion i've come to.

Im glad somebody built this. Props to you for taking the time, and money and making it happen. It just wouldn't fit my needs for a bike. The only difference is that you can ride on the highway. But here in so-cal our highways are really sh*tty and i couldn't imagine riding a hard-tail at 70mph surrounded by idiots on there cellphone going over huge potholes, jumps, and avoiding all the sh*t that falls out of peoples trucks.

The reason we love Motorized bicycles, is because there cheap, light, quick, and too much fun...This is not a motorized bicycle, its a motorcycle, so i have to look at it from that standpoint.

The only reason i am posting this, is not the make you feel bad. Just the other people that see this, and think, "d*mn i gotta have it". Really think about what this thing is...

I hope this post comes out right, I really am a fan of your work, Im just trying to look at logically and rationally. And art isn't always logical or rational.

I think maybe you are judging a little early IMO.

And you mentioned esthetics and then In the same breath compared the v-twin to the power of a liquid cooled bike which would be almost impossible to make look right aesthetically.

It may not be a motorized bike, but it is built in that spirit..... And he's done the work himself as cheap as possible, something some of "motorized bike" builders here miss, buying the dearest off the shelf parts.

I personally love this bike, but we all have different tastes I guess.

I've never heard of a liquid cooled 50cc with 20hp but I'd bet it's highly modified and wouldn't last as long as this engine which should last a long time, not really comparable IMO

I know, its not finished. I really like this bike too! I just wouldnt buy, or build one. I think less is more. That's all i meant. im just weird i guess. The only reason i brought up the 50cc, is because i personally think that, the added weight, and complexity of this particular motor, doesn't justify the power output. Haha it wasnt the same breath, was a hole paragraph away!


I just don't see the point on spending this much money on something that isnt as convenient as a mb, and isnt as quick or comfortable as a motorcycle, other than that it looks cool...

I was just trying to give some constructive criticism and my personal opinion. That's all.

Yes, I've ridden obscene rice rockets and multi-cylinder 'smooth as an electric motor' factory motorcycles, some of which were just like being on a magic carpet.

here in the Glorious Kalifornia Republic i think there's something like a 175cc minimum displacement for the freeway system and somewhere around 15hp.
Basically, yah gotta be able to run with the bulls, at 65mph.

Otherwise, they gonna run right over the top of u and not even look back.
Or, you'll spend most ur riding time talkin' with tax collectors.
and maybe tow-truck operators!
