Good idea Joe. Mf HF running fine but maybe could use a little more in the carb dept there were some people working on some different carbs anybody get anything the stock carb is so simple dont know how it even works for our purposes if it wasnt so flat from the start would be much better. Thanks Larry

I have not seen one of these apart yet. It would be fun to play with the duration on the cam. Like a radical cam so to speak. This engine has a steel cam in it I presume?

If your talking about HF no the cam is plastic but I think HS is also dont know about Honda but if HS is Honda probably is too.

Honda has used plastic cams in all their small engines for some time. there is no need for anything stronger since in this aplication the amount of stress the cam endures is not great. The design engineers discovered that the lighter weight of the plastic cam gives better performance than the heavy steel cam.

It's a fact that the less mass the engine has to spin the more power it can produce. The cart racing guys are into lighter flywheels and gears for a reason. I put togeather my own gearbox, I am impartial about who's unit is the best but having the clutch on the jackshaft in my unit will reduce the amount of power needed to spin it since it will be turning at half the RPM of the cankshaft.

Hope I didn't upset anyone.

Hey Tom Makes sense Took apart HF 5.5 vertical it had steel cam but it was for lawn mower not meant for speed at least until I removed the governor re jeted the carb free flow muffler now I have the fastest John Deere tractor in town well not real fast because of trans but it sure can pull its weight thats why I built it. You can do same with HF 6.5 clone guys are asll using them for go carts. Larry

Hi Gator Wrestler,

Glad to see someone agrees with less power needed to turn the heavy clutch at reduced speed. We turn the clutch at a slower speed on our drives and don't mount the clutch on the crankshaft to allow the motor to rev quicker.

Not sure if anyone else makes a drive to fit the HF motor.

What ratio are you using on your setup?

Have fun,

A plastic cam should be pretty easy to re- profile.

Clutches on the jackshaft or intermediate shaft aren't new, but are efficient to a point, they still need power to spin them and when you have a jackshaft mounted clutch, you have to increase flywheel mass. (Or reduce it with a engine shaft mounted clutch).

Almost a wash.

Hey Q,
Nobody makes a drive for the HF engine because it's a total DIY endeavor.
If you're so **** bent on peddling your wares, why not get your OWN forum going with all your EZM dealers and then you can preach to the choir all you want.
That overpriced creation you have is NOT the only answer to driving a motorbike.
Apologies to everyone else trying to learn "tips and tricks".
Please, get back on topic!

I was thinking higher lobes? Nothing ridiculous just tease it to get more ump. Along with a good breathing exhaust and carb as well.

Oh man Corgi. Have you seen some of Neat Times work? He is CVT Master! Way back folk were saying that you could not use CVTs due to power loss. I listened to the experts and Good 'ol Ron plunged away. He made some awesome gear. I have an American made 2 smoker on the table now but my next project is a 4 smoker. CVT driven American made 4 stroke. Code name "Easy bake oven" The 2 stroke has the "egocentric drive"
Is there a thread about Neat Times and the CVT? I have a couple of CVT's frome a pocket bike.( Cheep clutch drum wab les on both ) But I hate to just tose them. I would like to do a little studying ....Thanks ...Curt

You can modify Max Torque setup for a trans he uses #41 chain dont think it will stretch too much. His setup is for go carts but Jim will modify it for you for about $80. Not the best looking or the Quietest but it works. I have pics posted somewhere on here. **** I cant figure hoiw to get pics but they are here. Larry

Ment to post this and forgot. No need for the low oil sensor, so I removed the electronics. (more correctly the "silver thing and wires")

Pic one is with it on.

Elmo, what or how did you adjust the valves?
Got the engine warmed up. Rolled the engine over until it came up on compression stroke, this has both valves closed. I think it was a 10mm nut on the rocker arms, loosen the nut and used a screwdriver to set the clearance for a snug but not tight fit on the feeler gauge. It has to slide in and out fairly easily. If in doubt set them on the loose side because you can burn the valves if it is set too tight. My engine had lost 1 mph and after I set the valves it gained back the 1mph plus another .5 mph so I guess they were loose to start with. Have fun.

Hi Guys,

I always set the lifter clearance on ice cold motors. If someone will take photos of the top of the carburetor, and the governor system I will gladly help design a throttle system. Several have solved the problem, but some have over complicated the process.

Have fun,
