Want more adjustment in your throttle cable?

I found the adjusment on the throttle cable sux....i had the carb cap all the way out, the adjusters at the grip all the way out and the 90* coming off the throttle out. I couldnt get the throttle tight where the slack was gone. If ive got some slack then the throttle isnt opening as far as it could/should.

Heres what i did to give me more adjustment in the throttle cable...

I pulled the cable from the plunger in the carb, pull the plunger, carb hat, and spring off. Then i took a regular female wire connector and removed the guts from the center. I fed the throttle cable through it and put everything back together like normal. The connector needs to be pushed hard into the adjuster on top of the carb hat. Now I have lots of adjustment and just enough play in the throttle to drop the engine back to idle. Pics show what I did....works good. The connector fits tightly inside the carb hat's adjuster so it stays put...

I didn't have the right size plastic electrical connector but I did find this piece in my junk box. I think it's an elec. conn. of some kind that someone might know what it is. (metal)
I hammered the hollow end over an allen wrench the same size as the adjuster on the carb hat. It fits nice and snug. The throttle cable end actually screws tight into the threaded side of the connector.

It looks like the discarded tip of a spark plug, the part that connects to the wire.
 
This is all new to me as I just bought my bike, can someone tell me what the little lever does that is pictured in Russntustin's picture above, the pic to the left with the throttle cable, next to the air filter. Thanks.

That is the choke lever
 
The air filter you see there comes with the new CNS carb, avaliable at Bikeberry.com. Teh carbs were on sale all weekend for $34. $50 now

Take the air filter off and look into the carb throat, You'll see the slide goes all the way up, even with a ton of slack. The twist throttle grip has a huge range compaired to whats required to go from idle to WOT.

The more annoying issue is with lots of slack, Sometimes the cable housing backs out and hangs up when you go to apply the throttle. That however can be solved with just tapeing the cable housing to the black rubber boot and to the twist throttle.

Yeah you have a good point I found out the ability to pull the throttle tight enough to feel it stiff just breaks the cable end off in the carb over time even if it is minutely stiff it is definitely wrong. All it needs to do is go the distance in the slide.

I later found a nicer billet throttle assembly that had adjustable stops in it so when angry throttle time kick in I could not over pull the cable. Been over a year now and no broken cable end.:) http://www.partsforscooters.com/169-131_throttle#
