Thanks guys! I'm thinking the semi-synthetic Lucas oil is a moderate mid grade oil then? So sounds like 32:1 ratio would be sufficent for the Gen IV motor.

Lucas makes great products, so when mix according to their recommendations you should have good service from their 2 stroke oil if that is what you choose to run, I will add that my preference is Opti2 because I honestly think it is one of the very best 2 stroke oils on the market, I had failures with other but have never had another internal engine failure since switching to Opti2 and like I had said I run 100:1, I always give Opti2 a shout out because it has worked good for me and many other who swear by its ability to protect and add a little performance improvement.

For what its worth, I use Lucas at 40:1 in all of my bikes and it works well, on my BMX and KTM it's been good to 13K rpm when jetted correctly.

I personally really like Lucas products, their oil stabilizer is great and they make an excellent fuel treatment, I run Lucas full synthetic in my Harley Davidson and plan to putit in my old 1982 Yamaha 650 Maxim nextoil change, grea products in my opinion for sure.
If I was to run a semi synthetic in my 2 Strokes it would be Lucas asmy first choice.

you gotta admit, china getting that close to our own numbers is pretty good. there is a huge gulf between our two standards. alot of the reason this is still wrongly labelled is because we as consumers dont call them on it. but if you stopped going to places that lie in their ads, even red lobster would go under.

Are you talking about the 80cc/66cc thing?
 
Dax case has slightly bigger ports and the crank has thrush washers with japanese bearings and 3 oil holes on each end of the connecting rod and he uses hex cap bolts instead of phillups. Although the crank is about as un tru as non dax motors. You can true these cranks and balance them and have 0 viberation at wot

I must have been fortunate to get a good one, my dax lower build has a noticeably smoother run through the rpms all the way to WOT than any of the other china girls I have or have had, I have two other dax lowers still in the box waiting for me to build them up, I'm hoping that they will be the same..

My Dax Gen IV was a major disappointment. I put my old motor back on.
Save your money. It did not feel any smoother than my 3 year old ebay motor.

Mine probably got less than 10 miles on and now is sitting in a box under the work bench.

My dax Gen IV is the smoother of my engines and with the port work I did on the jug it is also the fastest, very noticeably smoother than all my other engines, I have twisted it up to 9400rpm and it just sings....

I have two more of the dax lowers I plan to build to replace a couple other of my engines, your issue is the first I've heard of, all the other experiences I have heard of have been just like mine.

Dang that stinks and you must have got a lemon... I'd holler at Duane over at thatsdax and ask him if he would be willing to work with you getting another, you must have got one with a really untrue crank or something.

I love mine, and as a matter of fact I just got mine mounted back on my bike today, I har broke a rear stud and wanted to clean the engine and paint it up nice so I did all that today and took a ride after dark, I weigh 220lbs and im running a 28T rear sprocket on a 26" wheel, that was another change I made to the bike today, not sure yet how well the small sprocket is gonna do for me, seems to pull it pretty nice, but I may have to go up to a 30T to get it where ai want it, time will tell but my dax engine has a lot of power even with that samll of a sprocket, I was surprised...

I bought a Dax engine in 2009 and it seamed to not be balanced good called Dax and he sent a new engine and i returned the one i had. The new engine was great and still have it.

That was 2009, this is 2014, Obviuosly things do change, I got the worst service from this guy imaginable, spent 30 bucks in shipping to have him put in a 3 dollar gasket and send the same piece of garbage back to me. I had a gasket on my bench that I could have put in for nothing! What a rip, this is nothing but a typical china girl, if you buy one you better tear it down and clean it up before you mount it.
I could never recommend paying the premium price for a dax.

Just got my second dax GenIV lower built last week and running another great running engine..... only issue I had was that the clutch wasn't engaging so I pulled the side cover to find that the retainer screw that keeps the flower nut from backing off was missing, I took one out of and old engine put side cover back on and took off, if I had not had an extra I would have been a little ticked off for sure, but as far as the engine working out good and running nice and smooth just like my other one, it has and does so far, hit 43 mph with less than 20 miles of the engine and it cruises nice at upper 30's to low 40's and at 15-28 mph this engine is as smooth as butter with the mods I did to lighten the piston by about 14 grams.

I wish Duane would pack his engines better before shipping since all of mine came with bent mounting studs but internally they have been in great condition, I have one more of the lowers I hope to start work on soon, hoping when I get it built I have the same results with it as I've had with the firat two.

I JUST finished a build using a Gen4 Dax Kit.

The engine is SUPER smooth. The ONLY suggestion I have is to replace the stock gaskets with JuiceMotoParts.com Copper .025 gaskets for both base and head.

Strong compression, really runs well, needs the jet dialed in a bit and just some time to break in.

Excellent........ both mine are really smooth runners also, cant wait to get my third one built and going, the people that have the older F80 dax engines dont realize that the newer GenIV engines are not the same and are a better balanced assembly, these engines are very smooth in comparison to my other china girls and the GenIV engines with good port work and a well tuned exhaust and carb are very good performers, both mine do 40+ mph with my current 212lbs butt naked weight on them.... so about 220lbs clothed ..... by the way NO I dont ride butt naked.......lol! Just said it like that for the sake of being silly..

These better balanced engines sold by Dax and Neil ( motorbicycleracing ) are cream of the crop in my opinion for engine with a stock crank and lower, much better balanced engines that will run full out comfortably and cruise with very very low vibes..... I plan to use these lowers for all my builds from now on.

friction drive kit of in frame kit?

hello everyone my name is mike im new Ive had the 50cc super titan 4 stroke from dax.com with friction drive for a while which is great I get up to 35mph and the tanaka pf-4000 40cc with friction drive which is also great get up to 35mph too but my question here is whats the big difference with in frame kits and friction drive kits ? I mean I know theres a chain but friction drives are great wheres a good reliable place to get a in frame kit that I wont get a ****ty engine I see these in frame kits from bike berry and e bay for 150.00 and up I paid almost 400.00 for my friction drive kit
