Texas Riding Blog

Not for nothing but this is one of the great threads. Always pleasant and fun. I really wish I could join you folks.

Ride safe

Yesterday I rode a long ride around town.

Basically to downtown and back the long way, through North Dallas. About 42 + miles. No problems at all. One car honked at me somewhere downtown, but I'm not sure why. He probably wanted to stop and try to buy my bike out from under me.. A car did stop me a little later to ask questions about my bike. It was a guy about 60 years old.

The weather was about perfect. When I got home my 1/2 gl tank still had plenty of gas.

I made this movie of what I saw.

China Girl and Proud of It - YouTube

Great video there biknut! I also liked your other one you posted on youtube, where it starts off with 2001 space oddessy. Then ends with David Bowie's "little china girl" song. That song has been totally stuck in my head, ever since starting this project! I hear her heart beating, loud as thunder......

Peace, James

I have ridden my mbs (the friction drive roadie and the 2 stroke beach bike) right through downtown and surrounding cities, the police don't seem to mind it. Some wave if you wave first. Most drivers seem relieved that its faster than a regular bike, but many seem confused by the speed, or mistake it for a motorcycle. They sometimes wait for it to pass, then pull out at the last second because its not fast enough for their tastes.

The other day I was riding home after about 15 miles of riding. I'm coming down a 3 lane street in the right lane. My lane ended into a right turn only lane, but I wanted to go straight. Because of the way the intersection is laid out, two, 3 lane streets come together at the light. Anyway I ignore the right turn only sign, and ride across the street in front of 6 lanes of cars waiting for the light. Naturally there's a cop waiting to make a right turn on the other side of the street. I end up stopping right in front of his car, blocking him being able to make right on red, lol. There were cars coming, and I couldn't pull into the lane till they passed. I knew the cop would be coming behind me. Eventually he pulls up next to me at the next light, but so what. He was sort of glancing at my bike like he was wishing the light would hurry up and change so he could race away as fast as he could. I chased him about 4 more blocks till he finely made a right turn, where I went straight.

The cops just don't give a darn about MBs around here.

I guess it's better to be ignored, than to be investigated. :-)

I rode mine around Dallas at 8-9pm, and around white rock lake at 10pm, and the cops didn't care. One looked like he might stop me, but I was on the road, so he just went on by.

These weren't just any cops, they were Farmers Branch cops. They love pulling people over, lol.

How you been anyway? I guess we need to start planning our second Dallas ride soon.

Looking for riders in Austin

Hello, I just recently built my first MB a couple months ago, I'm new to this forum. I'm looking for some people in Austin to ride with.

I think you'll have pretty good luck down there. Austin is the hot bed of MBs in Texas. Be sure and let us know what you find. Good luck.

What we need is to find a track somewhere and stage a Texas MB Race. That'd the thing to do, it would probably need too be either in DFW or Austin in somewhere.

Ok, we are shooting for the middle of Feb if the weather is dry. I ride mine about every weekend lately. When the weather is warmer, I ride mtn bikes mostly.

If ya see a cop around the lake area be sure to dummy peddle they most likely won't bother ya but they are a bit picky around the lake. Me & Happy rode in the area with no problem but on the trail around the lake I'd lay low and not hotdog!

Nah, my route entirely is on paved roads, not the Multi-Use-Paths. Speed limit is 20 around the lake park though.

I have google map links to the whole route.

I'm going to try to find someone else to come ride with us. I need to talk to Ruby478 and see what he's doing. Bruce is involved some hussy right now and probably won't want to ride with us.

I'm planning to ride my bike over to WR this time, which is about 15 miles one way to from my house.

Maybe Todd will ride his electric MB with us. I'll send him an email.
