Starting to look like something

Got the headlight mounted to the springer fork.

Thanks! So far just a couple trips around the block in 1st and 2nd gear. I don't think I'll have any trouble keeping up with traffic on secondary roads. Just a few more details with required safety equipment and I'll be off to the Motor Vehicles Dept. to get a title/reg, etc.
 
Added some gauges

Have to deal with kilometer conversion but the price was right.

I know its starting to look more like a cruiser than a racer but I need a certain amount of equipment both for comfort and to pass inspection. Here's the rear fender lined with heavy fiberglass strips for support. I think I could actually sit on this thing now!

I discovered that I lack either the tools or technology to thread the ends of smooth rod to make fender support struts so I had to come up with a work around. Covering a 1/4 inch rod with stainless steel tubing actually worked quite well!

The lens on the headlamp brings back memories of the 6 volt tire rub gen set and the huge round incandescent bulb. Maybe find if they make a white led that either is in the bulb and otherwise looks the same, or craft a fiber optic cable to a fake bulb that just diffuses the light.

Very nice work and fender support idea smart. I have used a lot of threaded rod and couplers to make things removable. Welding also I do MIG, but I have the idea of one day having a removable cover to my trail bike (no pedals) to be art vehicle looking like a fish. This means I need to have it mutate when I need and reverse when parade over.

Thanks for the compliments guys but here are some things you'll never hear said about me:

After a couple botched orders for mandrel bends, I somehow got it in my head that a pie-cut pipe was a good idea. I spent most of the weekend on the exhaust system. All I can say is at least I'm pretty good with a grinder!

With those engines, the soft valve timing means there's no point in chasing rpm with a short one, so the pipe is only there to take the used gas away.

That's what I think. I might be wrong.
 
The end section has a baffle insert that I'm hoping will be quiet enough to pass inspection. It's easily removable should I choose to later on.

Fabbed up a coaster style rear brake pedal using an extra crank arm.

I know, I know. The rusty engine doesn't match the shiny new parts everywhere else. I had my reasons, number one being that I believe I will have an easier time with the title process with a "used" engine.

Anyway, I got things 100% operational over the weekend and cruised around the windy back streets of my neighborhood. What a blast! I got flagged down by several people, wanting to know where they could get one. :)

Bad news from the MVA concerning titling home-built vehicles; Although they have some guidelines and requirements posted on their website and although a phone call at the beginning of the build confirmed the requirements posted on the website, they now say they haven't actually titled a home-built motorcycle in YEARS and have no intention of ever doing any again!

The guy I spoke with told me off the record that if I were to get a title in another state with more lenient requirements, the title would be easy to transfer to Maryland.

Looks like I might be taking a trip to Maine to see the folks.
