living the dream in southern california
#8 magrider was running a Bairdco motor for 4th place in the 2stroke pro class.

it's an old grubee gt4 starfire, rebuilt with new bearings, and reversed cylinder.

stock nt carb, stock straight plug head, stock internals except for the bearings and an annodized moonerdizzle piston, which shows no signs of wear except for a small scratch from some debris or something.

the only aftermarket part was the biturbo moped expansion chamber.

we didn't have the top end that the arrow motors had, and it showed in the long straight drag race, but for 1/10th of the cost, it made a pretty good effort.

we had the parts to build the same motor as everyone else, but our goal was to build a competitive, mostly stock engine that wouldn't blow up after 10 laps.

since the final was only 9 laps, we didn't reach that goal.

who knows where steve woulda placed if we went the full 13 laps...

Special race stuff will be posted here too so post a pic of your race
bikes there and I will put them in the Motorized Bike album on the
Grange page.

sorry to hear there was a bump larry
heal up fast i too have been struggling suffering with a torn rotor cuff shoulder problem

hard to wipe my a.. to put my hands on my waist to clasp my fingers in front of me and raise my elbows up high sure hurts
anyway on the edge of opting for a surgery but time will tell
hope you and baird don't experience the same dilemma

realized last night
i did not see much of the electrics
did they show up --- live for physics and the others that literally build their electric motors????

How does a pro win the amateur class? That isn't right now way,no how. And I see no one else cares but that just stopped me from coming to any race, ever. His skill makes him a pro, doesn't matter what's under his a$$.

I guess Will aka SoSauty didn't tell you after the last Socal Motor Bicycle Racing event at Grange that he is concentrating on building his retirement house in Alabama so he doesn't have time for the races right now.

Will was a great help putting on the races so now is the time to thank him publicly for all his contributions especially with the flags and scoring and just being at every race.

Will's beloved # 14 is retired in his honor! :D

I know Will will be reading this so thanks a lot for mailing me the flags that you
purchased for the races back in June 2011 for our first race at Willow Springs
and all the best for your new life in Alabama with your wife.

Dan Hanebrink is a very cool guy with a lot of history in bicycles, motorcycles, ebikes so it was great to see him there.

Dan was also at the M1GP 8 HR endurance race at Grange because they have an eBike class now with Zero ebikes and Hollywood Electric. The eBikes didn't finish the 8 Hour race and the winning gas bike did 391 laps with a 1.06 fastest lap.

We had some interesting talks at the track about a stock 1000 watt ebike class but who knows where that will go?

Ya lets see Neil answer that one.

I was at the race and did not even race in that class for the fact I am not an amateur racer. The bike was far from stock too....Hello....

The proper name for this occurrence in the racing world is known as "sand bagging". Can't wait to hear what becomes of an excuse for this happening :D

I raced a super stock bike in the pro class.

so is it the racer that makes you an amateur, or the bike? maybe it's just the fact that one wants to race for the $$$.

which ever, I raced with norm in the unlimited class and we were within a second of each other the whole race. Lots of fun, Jeff's bike is super fast.

A win in the amateur class should automatically bump him up to the pros next race.

He should not have been allowed to race. Its a combination of the two and the fact that he could handle ccc's bike just proves me right. And winning 1 race does not make someone a pro. If you don't get it,too bad. Not slowing the short bus down again.

I'm out.

Really? Wow!! you aren't coming to the SoCal Motor Bicycle Racing events
just because of this incident?

You are taking this just a little too seriously especially for a guy who
lives in Oklahoma.
It's a fun race and the vast variety of custom builds makes it difficult
to assign racers to classes because there are no set specifications.

Pro and Amateur are just names that may not mean that much as you
have to divide the racers up somehow.

Lower class winners will be bumped up a class. You will not be able to
keep winning the Amateur Class.
The idea of splitting the classes is to bring in new riders to the races
and it worked really well.
Also all the very cool prizes from Piston Bikes, JN Motors Bikes and CR
Machine were a big incentive too.

Ideally 3 classes will work much better and that is the plan but you gotta
start somewhere so we did with 2 classes.
Maybe at the next race.

I could go on about all the riders skills and their bikes and who did what or
should have but at the end of the day it's a fun race and I am going to keep
it that way.

Here's some new Race Rules that are really common sense and basic decency.

If you are going to protest a racer, a race finish or race bike that you don't
think fits into a class or whatever it has to be done before the prize ceremony.

Any protests publicly made after the prize ceremony will be ignored especially
from guys that live in Oklahoma.

There are standards of behavior at the track and behaving badly may have
repercussions.
Yelling at the "Race Director" is highly entertaining but if repeated will have
sanctions taken against the racer. If you want to be a Pro you better act
like a Pro. Stuff happens..........

Starting your bikes at 4 am in the morning and riding around the track on Friday
night will get you tossed off the property and sent home all the way to Ventura.
You may or may not get another chance depending on your attitude.

Drinking a beer at the riders meeting will get the beer tossed in the trash and
your first and only warning.
If I catch you drinking another beer before the races have ended you won't be
riding that day.

Anyway I am happy with the way the April 13th race turned out and there is
always the next time to fine tune stuff, so see you there! :D

"Hey Neil... What do you think about making a reed valve the dividing line between the pro & amateur HT classes??"

After all, reeds are the one thing that really set apart the bigger HP engines from what's been done to normal street bikes in the past?

I would totally be happy with rules that simply say "any HT without a reed valve is OK in the amateur class; & if it has a reed?, it must run in the pros".

Wow...who made that quote? Who got the first place win?

A little more fuel for the fire.

You want to get more new people at the races, then give them a nice prize in a class where they feel they can win....

Huevos

We should not have to protest, you should have made that call.

Jeff
You could have ridden in the Amateur Class, Andy was in it.
Or you could have ridden in the PRO class which could have used
a few more racers.

We will work out the definitions of the 66 cc 2 Stroke classes before
the next race.

I would like to see 3 classes that will reward new people at the races.

Jeff, I ain't smart enough to do everything and keep everything
under control. If you see something you think needs correcting
please speak out, quite a few people did at the last race and it helps.

This is why I really like racers like nashmoto, he comes a long way to
have fun with some elbow to elbow competition bringing no drama.

His 50 cc 4 Stroke had no competition so he stepped up to the 2 Stroke
PRO class and was chewing on magriders tail with it and he was cool
with not being eligible for cash.

nashmoto totally outclassed the Midrange Class on his new GC 160 in the
heats so he stepped up to the 11 HP + Unlimited Class where he didn't
have a chance of winning but got in some great riding.

nashmoto's Honda GC 160 beat magrider on his 11 HP 50cc water cooled
Morini in the fast class.

He could have run the Midrange class and easily won on his GC 160 and
got the trophy but he would have been bored running out front by himself.

Class act and a really nice guy who represents the kind of event that is
mainly about the fun.

Timm and Roland of BigBoyCycles are the same way and of course there
are others too.

Taking these races too seriously will kill the fun,

Neil, you are a coward and a liar. And how does one pubicly contest it before the prize ceremony when he shouldn't have been allowed to race in the amateur class with a number plate switch. Modified engine, man has years riding, and building quite nice motorized bicycles. Rode in the unlimited class. Nope, don't sound like a pro at all. And considering someone from Texas showed up I don't think it would be that hard to get there. And June 1st is my sons birthday,I was trying to make that race just for him. I defenitly would have been in the amateur claes, riding a bike extremely similar to the piratecycles 20" lowrider.

Or can I show up the first time ever racing in the unlimited class?
