Magneto Generator Project Help

I've been messing with the white wire trying to hook it up to a light ever since I’ve built my MB. Eventually I gave up cuz it kept on killing the motor. Rather than stealing power from the spark plug's magneto, I decided to build my own generator instead.

I made it out of some wire (from an old electric motor) and thin sheet metal. After all that, much to my disappointment, it only produced a maximum of .32 volts. Did I ground it incorrectly? Is there something wrong with the wire? Or is it just a crappy idea?

Anyways, I'd really like this thing to work, and I appreciate the help I can get from you guys. Hope the pictures help and thanks in advance.

I think you have a good thought but your construction installation is just lacking some. The magneto generates the power by passing the magnets very close to the curved metal part of the coil which then induce voltage in the coil. Your design only has a very small area that’s close to the magnet. Also if you do manage to make one that is close enough it will also “steal” energy from the magneto unless you can manage to arrange it 90 degrees or so in relation to the the mag pickup.

Ahh, i see. Thanks for the feedback, I'll just use a battery to power my lights for now :)

I’ve thought about the 12v to run flashing lights on the rear and a LED headlight, I’m thinking of using a small sealed battery to keep voltage consistent.

I am sorta thinking that the ignition module may only use one half of the AC the magneto generates if it used both halves then it wou spark twice per revolution and it doesn’t. If that’s the case then you should be able to use the other half with the white wire without killing the ignition. Just put a diode in the line in the proper direction. I will do a little experiment and see.

Cool tip

Use this 12v AC power coil.... Looks cheap I know


Connect to this rectified bridge
Cable Wire: Red to usb +, Green to usb -, Yellow and Pink AC input, connect to magneto coil a/c ground and coil


This USB or USB of choice


Step last connect to backup battery or phone

Anything a/c rectified will always be cut in half example
12v a/c - 6v d/c
24v a/c - 12v d/c

You need more steel stacks to transfer the magnatizum, magnetic energy

Not true. Peak to peak AC voltage is 1.4 times the RMS “root mean square” voltage. So rectified ac will be higher than half the rms value of the measured ac.

Well my multimeter said 6v DC after rectification and my phone chargers, that's all I wanted really
