I decided that while I’m waiting on parts I probably should get started on the fuel tank.
Started with a 4 1/2” dia tube and cut a slot 1 1/4” wide lengthwise . Formed a piece of metal to straddle the top bar and tacked it into place. Still have to form the tank ends and weld up the whole tank.

Looking good OB. What flavor saddle is that? Flip it over so I can see the underside, and a rear saddle shot while you're at it. The point is whether the saddle back tension can be adjusted. If you are not going to ride this machine more than a mile or two. Beyond which your prostate will be unhappy. A static display is one thing a rider takes a bit of$$$..

It’s a no-name knock off I picked up off of EBay. I don’t plan to ride this for hours on end, so I think it’ll be alright. I am going to build a lay back seat post to get the seat behind the tank. I’ll do that when the tank is done.

Looking good OB! Did you think about adding tank baffles?

Half round steel caps are availible I have a set which I plan to use one day. I think they are 4".

I like the top tube straddle tank design for frames without a lower straddle tube. It also allows a couple of inches more room for really tall engines.

I also use a saddle like yours on a lil' electric bike I ride a lot but not for very long. Decent for running about town 30 minutes at a time for sure. I like the look and the price. I feel replacing the rear springs on mine will be necessary as they are showing signs of collapse.

Rick, that tank saddle is almost 4” deep at the front of the tank and close to 2” deep at the back. I’ve never seen baffles in motorcycle tanks and I really don’t think I’ll have an issue with this one. I will have to have 2 petcock holes at the rear , might make one side a reserve.
